What do you get when you combine the 2D/FMV power of the PC-FX, and a company like Hudson Soft? You get "Kishin Doji Zenki: Vajura Fight", which is THE best Final Fight type fighting game for the PC-FX. First, I must comment on the music. Using changing themes, and a superb Anime intro song, makes this game a great CD to listen to. The music fits each stage perfectly (most notably the underground subway, with the dead skeletons walking around!), and each track is long, so it's not too repetitive. On the control side, you have the option of playing Zenki, or Chiaki (which I play with most often). Playing either Zenki or Chiaki, you have 11 or so ways to attack the enemy with fireballs, fire feathers, plasma attacks, special power-ups, and more. To execute the some of the moves, you can either do the move on the D-pad, or press one of the top row buttons (witch will never fail, and a lot quicker). Control is very tight, so you won't have any trouble controlling your characters.
The graphics in "Zenki" are a very mixed bag of goodies. FMV Japanese Anime, CGi w/2D sprites fill the screen with really cool special effects. In each area, you are treated to a special graphical effect--be it either a trippy timewarp, glass scattering the playing field, HUGE (and I mean HUGE) sprites suddenly appearing, massive parallax in some areas, CGi airplanes blowing up, transparency/fog effects, and more! I would say that "Zenki" is one of the few games that really show off some of the power of the PC-FX.

If you own a PC-FX, I would encourage you to seek out this game. Though, it will be a challenge to find it for sale anywhere these days. After you beat the game, you will want to go back and play it again, but maybe not right away, so I would say that the replay value is about average. If you are good at these type of games, more than likely you could finish it in one setting, but if not, it does have a save game option for EVERY stage, so don't worry. Overall, a VERY good game for the PC-FX, which I recommend to everyone. - Aaron Nanto
