This is the TG-CD system with the docking base. The docking section of the CD unit snaps into the expansion port located at the top of
the TG-16 system, while the CD unit extends beneath the TG-16 to hold it in place. Together, you can play CD+G, CD-ROM2 system games, regular CDs, and HuCards.When the CD unit was introduced,
it was at a very high price point--mainly because the CD market was fairly new to the American market. In the beginning it seemed that the CD unit would bring down NEC, but software prevailed-- proving that
the medium could be used to bring more in-depth and exciting games to the home video game market. The TG-CD was also another first for NEC, making this the first CD-ROM game system in the world.
