I wasn't sure where to put this. It doesn't fit into the Non-NEC Console, or Homebrew Development categories, and I wanted it to include all things PC-FX, PC-Engine/SuperGrafx and TG-16/TE/TurboDuo.
The idea of this thread isn't to say "In your face! I have this!", well... It is and it isn't. I am very interested to see other peoples collections. How people have them displayed, what bookcase or shelves you use. How you store your duplicates. How many different consoles you have and how you keep the wiring under control. This is a place to show off your collection, show off something you are building/restoring, show off your game room (man cave), show off a unique NEC piece, or share a great way to store/display something that you came up with.
I'll post a picture of my setup later this evening. It is guaranteed not to blow you away. In fact, it may make some of you very sad. Perhaps sad enough to send money my way. :P For now, I'll give an outside example to get the ball rolling. This item belongs to tmlfan over on cgcc.ca. I would love to get my hands on a TurboGrafx-16 kiosk like this.
I'm quite pleased with my cabling. All I need is a VGA adaptor for my Dreamcast, and then nothing at the back of the TV will need to be swapped around (although the SNES SCART isn't great). It's still a horrendous mess though, but I can't see it so I don't care.
I don't think I own anything that would inspire awe to anyone here, I just own a lot of nice things. I have a large collection of Gameboys (looking out for a black DMG-001, a blue DMG-001, a black pocket and a silver non-mirror pocket to complete my "basic colours" collection!) which I really need to sort out in a nicer display somehow.
I did make a gameboy game-holder thing out of cardboard and papier mache. Started out as just 2 pieces of cardboard with slots for games, and then I embelished it:

How many hours did you put into that frame? How big is it? It's hard to judge from the photo. If I remember correctly, GameBoy games are about 2" tall so that would put the frame at...
carry the 1... to 1.5' tall?

@all ~ When you post your photo(s), make sure to post some sort of back story to it. I'd like to know how you came across each item, how long it took you to find them, and if you managed to snag something huge for $10.

Hey, I have that same shelving system. You're using it to better effect than I did. It was starting to buckle under the weight of my 27" tube tv, so now it's sitting in the garage. :)

Those shelves (your game systems are on) look like ones you buy at Walmart. I don't connect all my consoles at once, except the ps3/360 and maybe a third one (right now it's the TG/CD). I hate dust lol

A TurboStick, an Acemore Freedom-16, and a couple of those shitty Pythons are boxed up in the closet; five wireless controllers sit on a shelf, face down to keep the dust out; and there's a little wicker basket on the shelves to hold a tap, a few 2 and 6 button wired pads, and a couple extension cables.

I'd recommend keeping them right-side-up and using a cloth dust cover. Long-term pressure on the buttons, even just the weight of a controller, seems to fatigue the rubber innards.
My collection has been so fragmented over the years, I can't wait to settle down some place and have all of my games organized in one place but that won't happen for a few months at least.

Actually it's samurai showdown 2. Neogeo games are just ridiculously expensive to collect for, especially the games I want to get like metal slug, pulstar and blazing star. I'll been thinking about getting a mvs to aes converter.

As promised... B-E-H-O-L-D! My game room! Yes there are no chairs. Well, actually there are, but they're dining room chairs. I usually sit on the floor and lean up against them. Under the coffee table is a hard case for the TG-16+CD, 3 TurboPads, and 1 TurboTap. In the background is the broken and disassembled CD unit I recently purchased. It's waiting patiently for a gear from Keith Courage and hopefully once installed *fingers-crossed* it'll fire itself up. The whole room is a work in progress (obviously).

Pro tip: don't ask wife, just bring the cabs and shit in the house without asking. They'll be upset at first but then finish another house project they have been nagging you about for a long time and bring her home like some cupcakes and wine and they'll forget all about the game room.

Hey, I have that baby swing. Only our kid outgrew it so now it's sitting in the garage. :D
I bought my first house last year. Pretty much the entire thing is a man cave, but I've had some time to work on my game room this past month. One of the previous owners was kind enough to frame a random section of my basement, so I hung some slat wall (http://www.amazon.com/Gladiator-GarageWorks-GAWP082PMY-GearWall-Panels/dp/B00147J4AK). This stuff is great, the hooks and shelves you can get for it allow you to configure things pretty much however you want. Love this stuff! Anyway, some pics...

That's exactly what I thought when I saw the pics. :) It reminded me of the store I first bought my TG-16 from.
EDIT: I'm not poking fun at you - I think it's pretty cool!
That's awesome Sadler! "Man cave" indeed... But congrats more so on getting your first house!

Why do you think mine is sitting in that room? Our kid outgrew it at 5 months. Damn thing sucked batteries, and barely rocked with her in it. I was going to solder it up with dummy batteries and a AC adapter, but I never found the time to do it.
@Sadler ~ LOVE the slat walls. I never would have thought to do that. My brain is dreaming up uses as I type this. Ha! Is that a Super System Card v3.0 for TG-16? I've been looking for one of those, but the damn things are outrageously prices. Mind me asking how much you payed for that one?
This is my rarest game; I wear surgical gloves, a dust mask and a shower cap before handling it:

Sadler - that slat wall is the shit.

My setup is a bit cramped in the guest room. We currently have a 2 bedroom condo. Looking forward to expanding into a house. TG16+CD, Neo AES, Neo CDZ and a Core Grafx 2 peeking from behind the TV. I tend to prefer gaming from Japanese companies with three letter acronyms :)

FiftyQuid, that's a case for a US Super System card, but sadly that's all it is. Let's just say it pays to actually read what an item is before buying it. I do actually have the other system cards shown there.

After of week back from Animazement, I finally had a few hours to hook up all the upstairs consoles. I removed the dual-deck VCR since I have not touched it in over 5 years and it just took up room (so no requests for LD dubs!).
Top row, left-to-right: CDX, Duo, Saturn, DC, receiver, DTV convertor box
Lower row, left-to-right: LD, 2600(on top), media PC, 3x switch boxes, GC, 2x PS2s, 360.
The AV on the Duo and CDX create some aesthetic compromise. Still a rats nest in the back even after two hours of hooking up.

One cool thing of note is that the wonderful Adventure Island/ Wonder Boy explainer thread here at pcenginefx showed me I could substitue Wonder Boy in Monster World on the Genesis for Dynastic Hero. A TurboGrafx or Duo will only squeeze into a twelve-inch cube if you have a Turbobooster or mod to put the AV out on the back of the unit; otherwise it sticks out and you need more room on the side.
Dam looks like I gotta get busy finishing up my gameroom. Hard to do when you have no free time what so ever. But never fear I hope to have it completed sometime this summer.

Nice work on the shelves. I need something like that one of these days... a pile of systems lacks that organized look.
Nice looking shelves!! I wanna make some like that for myself one day eventually.
Putting a backing on them with holes or slots for the cables would look a lot cleaner but would be a bit harder when you are setting up the systems. Then again, once you get everything set up you'll probably never touch it so I say get a back on those! Then you won't have to stare at a mess of cables every time you play games.
Very nice shelves, turbokon. You must be very handy (or maybe just very motivated)
Do share pics once you've got it all filled with stuff!
Looks great! I like the open back. Maybe you could attach some sort of tubing along the back to wrangle all the cords.

Agree with Nando and Bernie
Or you can do a combination which i did for my movie/game shelf...Paint for the main 4 boards (top, bottom, left, right) and stain the inner racks.
Word of advice though, try to get all your brush strokes in the same direction, this will give it a nice wood grain look , unfortunately could be tricky unless u can remove those inner racks for easier access. I'll see if i can dig up some pics...
The shelving looks awesome! I would go with a backing. Seeing all the cables hanging down will drive you nuts. Especially if you have painted white walls. Not to mention you'll have a crapload of power bars at the bottom so you'll be able to see all the massive AC adapters. I have serious OCD when it comes to cabling, so me I would put a backing on (with holes drilled for cabling) and I'd still end up tie-wrapping all the cabling to keep it neat. If I had 12 consoles I'd probably add some P-Touch labelling too just in case I had to unplug something specific in the future.
@SuperPlay - Are those IKEA shelving/cabinets? They are pretty sweet looking.
Some excellent collections being posted here. I'm more envious with every post.

Nice work turbokon :@) love the shelving unit that you have made.
FiftyQuid: I picked up the cabinets from Argos here in the UK (Around £45 each). Unfortunately I do not think that they stock them any more :-( On a side note I have lined the inside of the doors with brown paper as these face a window and I wanted to reduce spine fading due to Sun-fade.
Thanks guys. I'm painting it black to match the rest of my office decor. I made it adjustable. I'm going to try it without a backing and see how it will look. Seeing you guys pictures of your setup is my motivation:)

I really like how those shelves turned out turbokon, did you have any instructions or a basic design that you used for assembling them? Also, I can't tell but is that MDF or plywood?
Thanks. I drew it out first on paper. Basically it's 36"Hx66"Lx16"D, each cube is 16"L from center to center and base is lifted 3". I used MDF.
Done!!!

Wow, nice job Turbokon 8)....12 consoles in ONE entertainment shelf!?!?! That's probably a record!
Just curious though, any reason for leaving so much height per cube?
I'd want the height for clearance issues on top loading disc systems like the Duo, Gamecube, ect.. Not sure why he did it, but that would be my guess. Nothing like just having enough room for the disc lid to open, and ya gotta work in limited space. Hell with that!
Edit: Forgot to add, does look good turbo. I would think about adding some sort of backing though, with maybe some slits or holes for wires to come through.
Thanks you'll, I made it so that I can add shelves for more consoles in the future. Bernie's right, I need enough
clearence for the top loaders ecspecially the neogeo, you see the size of its cartridges.

The Saturn is the only home console to get a port of D&D Tower of Doom and Shadows over Mystara in one package no less. Unfortunately it never made it out in the US. Now if only it would come out on 360 arcade along with Revenge of Death Adder that would be awesome.
Elevator Action Returns is one of my favorite Saturn games

Yeah D&D for Saturn is boss! One of my favorite titles. Too bad you are limited to two players though. Not sure why they took out the 4 player option but it could be due to limitations of the system.

Dude....what the fuck is wrong with you? Why do you need three copies of anything? I'd sell all the Symphony of the Nights because the Saturn version sucks. Then I'd celebrate by giving the Astra Superstars to me because I'm an idiot who sold my copy back in the day.
Seriously, PM me how much you want for a Astra Superstars.
Well the reason I have a few extra copies is that I would usually buy one copy for myself to play, then at some point I'd see one for a great price on Yahoo Auction Japan and pick it up figuring I could trade it for some other rare/sought after game I wanted.
As for SoTN, I do like the PS1 version better but you can play Maria in the Saturn version for what that's worth. But the reason I bought three copies (used to have four) is that I had bought one at some game shop in Japan that was in terrible condition but playable, then I picked up a copy in better shape on YAJ. Then some crappy seller on YAJ posted a "new" copy of the game, which I took to mean sealed. I usually don't collect sealed copies but I wouldn't mind a sealed SoTN as I love the series. Bought it for a fairly high price it arrived opened and used (even a few light scratches on the disc). The forth copy was one that was so cheap I couldn't pass it up. Keep in mind, this is coming from a guy who had five copies of Drac X at one point, so take it as you will.
Also, here's a few PCE titles I have on hand. Grabbed the wrong box out of storage so a lot of my more rare titles are still there somewhere!

Yeah, love that game!! Glad I took the plunge and picked it up despite mixed reviews. Think it's my favorite platformer on the SuperCD format other than Drac X.

When does that come out? I've never heard of it, but I'd like to buy a copy.
Check out the MSR is finished! thread in the Turbo Development section of this forum for the latest status.
AWESOME, Thanks for the heads up.

I want to live there. In that Final Fight cab.

That's just the garage...since this is the Brag'n Boast thread; In the basement is the home theater and upstairs in the living room is the console setups.
I should have some nice shots of the party this weekend and you'all can check out the backyard...as long as my phone does not melt. It's gonna be HOT, good thing the keg is ice cold.
THATS FUCKEN TIGHT!!!
I See you are a raiders fan? in cali, where at?
How do you guys power all those machines? Are they on a separate breaker panel? What about surge protection?
Quote from: FiftyQuid on 07/06/2012, 06:53 PMHow do you guys power all those machines?
There is a lot of outlets in the garage. Whoever lived there before me used it as a shop. I had to run three extension cords to break up the power to the middle. I've never blew a breaker but I did trip the cheap power strips a few times.

I finally got around to using my Sparky Stickers to create cases for games that I have loose. Of course, now that I've done that, I'm contemplating hunting down the manuals for the loosies. :-k

Great image. Thank you for sharing! I really like the little shelf you have them on. I'm looking to find a CD rack that will allow me to stack them horizontally instead of vertically. I was worried about the hu cards slipping inside, especially on the Keith Courage refurbed cases where they don't have clips. Nice collection, but what are you going to do with your binder now? :)

Thanks! I think I picked up that shelf at Target awhile back. I used to have them in an old CD tower that held them horizontally. Each case would fit in its own slot. However there were only a few places to fit the double-disc cases so they sat out of order, and the tower didn't hold as many discs.
The cases are mainly for me to gaze upon with awe and glory. I still keep the Hu's in the binder because I have a system hooked up to a tube tv there in the bed room and I have another system hooked up in the living room. And when I take the RV out, I usually bring along a system. :) So it's nice to be able to have the whole collection in one handy book.
This is too cool NOT to take a picture of:

So much obey in one room, I don't know if my house can take it! Sadly, two of these systems will be moving on soon. :)
Man, all of these pics make me envious! I want a Kiosk so bad. Sadly is the only place I'd ever find one is on EvilBay where anyone buying it would get royally screwed. I just need to have one built at this point. Everyone, for the most part these are bragworthy for sure! the devil said that. jebus is all about forgiveness and junk.
Cadash manual for $20? That's not bad if the game is inside it.
P.S. - Yeah, I know what I'm doing.
I figure it's time for an update. It's been two months since I started this thread. In case you missed it, I had just convinced my wife to give me the room and start collecting(see post #28 in this thread for all the details). This was a photo of my very first game room;
/dscn6804.jpg
Well it's been two months since then, so here's what the room looks like now;
/dscn7182o.jpg
In this photo you can see I put up these handy things called, wait for it..."shelves". Anyway, they allow you to get things off the floor! A wonderful invention and I would highly recommend you invest in them. Oh, and nothing says '90's like a car subwoofer box!
/dscn7181z.jpg
As you can see I've expanded into NES a little bit. Finally purchased a Control Deck off a fellow forum member. Came in the box with all the manuals. Pretty decent deal if I do say so myself. I have the retro stuff intermingled with some 'now' generation gaming supplies. Uncharted 3 boxed edition, a sealed PS3 SharpShooter, and a uber RARE sealed PS3 Nav Controller.
/dscn7183o.jpg
The new NES is on the right. I took it apart to clean it as the contacts were very, very loose. I started putting it back together, but I must have done something wrong because when I screw the lid on I can't pop the game up to eject it. Without the lid it's fine. I just haven't had time to screw with it again. It works and I really wanted to play it. In the far right corner you can see my lonely PS3 phat. That one suffered from YLOD. I have another pre-owned PS3 phat up in the main living room. I had purchased a PS3 Slim, but I didn't like it for reasons that are too numerous to post.
/dscn7184m.jpg
Close up of my YLOD PS3 phat. I plan on turning it into a lamp someday.
/dscn7188q.jpg
My two PS3 Rock Band guitars. When RB first came out I was pretty heavy into it. I never got past HARD, but I had fun trying. I took the original RB guitar and modified it. Inside I swapped out the two standard tilt switches and replaced them with mercury switches. These switches control your Overdrive power. I also installed an aftermarket strum bar. It definitely improved my RB abilities, and 'misses' became a thing of the past. Lastly, for kicks, I installed a 1/4" adapter plug and wired it to the Overdrive inside the guitar. Then I bought a standard keyboard pedal meant for sustaining notes. All you have to do is plug the pedal into the guitar and when you want to use Overdrive you just step on the pedal and it fires. It was great when you're really into the game and don't want to loose focus on the notes racing down by tilting your guitar. I know, I'm a geek. It was fun modding everything though. :)
/dscn7201a.jpg
Here's the pedal that fires off Overdrive.
/dscn7206z.jpg
Here are the games. I've managed to amass about 80 US TurboGrafx-16 hu cards and a couple CD-ROM. The glass cabinet is from IKEA. I think I bought it back in '94. It's meant to be screwed to a wall, but it holds 400 CDs and only has two holes for mounting it. Even if I hit a stud with both screws I was always afraid it would crash down off the wall. 400 CDs is a crapload of weight and the glass cabinet ain't exactly light either.
/dscn7179x.jpg
Close up of some of my games.
/dscn7178t.jpg
My NES collection consists of 7 games. 9 if you include the two BlueBMW is sending to me. The 7 games? Super Mario Bros./Duck Hunt, SMB3, Gun.Smoke, Xenophobe, Silent Service, Blaster Master and Dragon Warrior. I can hear everyone saying, "Silent Service?". Ha! I promised myself I'd only collect the NES games I enjoyed as a kid. That way I keep my NES collecting under control. Yes, I enjoyed Silent Service.
/dscn7186x.jpg
My beloved TG-CD. The LED display has a segment that is burnt out. I've managed to acquire a suitable replacement part, but it is going to take 5-6 weeks to get to me. After that, I have to figure out how to solder it to the board as the pinout is not the same.
/dscn7187.jpg
The dual 7-segment display has been removed (top right) you can see the holes where it is supposed to be installed.
Well, long post made even longer... ;) Hope everyone enjoyed that. As for my list, well I guess I can cross off number 3;
Step 1: Convince my wife to allow me to takeover the room. [COMPLETED]
Step 2: Convince my wife to let me start collecting my old TG-16 games. [COMPLETED]
Step 3: Empty the crap out of the room and move "my crap" in. [COMPLETED]
Step 4: Renovate the basement (where the room resides), and design it to include a "gaming area". [LONG TERM GOAL]
Step 5: Convince my wife we need a minimum of 1 pinball machine, and 1 cocktail arcade table [PRAY EVERY DAY]
Oh, and special thanks to PunkCryborg for the pro tip about just bringing in things and not telling the wife. I am now collecting TG and NES!

My girlfriend and I make roughly the same amount of money and basically pay for everything 50-50. Unfortunately that means that I can't say "I am doing this," because she is on equal footing.

Quote from: Bernie on 08/06/2012, 09:24 PMDude...if I had a basement... There would be no convincing. It would be, Hey, Jimilee. Im going to do this.
It's not my wife that is really holding anything back. I have two little problems that are impeding my ability to take over the entire basement. Luckily they are the two cutest little problems you'll ever meet. Here is the photo I forgot to post. It's The entrance to my game room.

I not only convinced the wife to let me transform our spare bedroom into a game room, but I managed to get her to agree to letting me "own" 2 other rooms for my hobbies as well!
What once was a spare bedroom is now the gameroom:
Twin 40" LCD TVs mounted on black glass floating shelf entertainment centers. All Nintendo (NES, SNES mini, N64, GameCube) on the left side, and all NEC (PC-FX, TG16 with CD attachment, PC Engine Duo) on the right. Wicker baskets underneath house extra controllers, cables, etc. Just need some comfy chairs and its all set
Closer shot of the "NEC side":
Also, I was "allowed" to transform our sunroom into a weight room. This one isnt quite finished as I'm in the process of installing a wall mounted 24" LED TV so the missus can watch while she jogs on our (soon to be purchased) treadmill. Heres a shot of the weightroom as it sits now:
And finally, my greatest toy and hobby. Ive owned several others during my lifetime, but sold my latest one right before my son was born. After 2.5 years of non-ownership, I decided enough was enough and purchased #4:
So there you have it... 3 hobbies, 3 rooms. Not too bad. Now I've got my eye on refinishing the basement...

What a great find. It was one of my earliest CD purchases (and thinking back the Turbo CD attachment may have been my first CD player!) so I probably spent nearly $20 on it. I remember even after getting a CD player, I still bought a lot of tapes because they were so much cheaper than CDs, and I could play them in my car.

Quote from: tpivette on 08/06/2012, 10:28 PMI not only convinced the wife to let me transform our spare bedroom into a game room, but I managed to get her to agree to letting me "own" 2 other rooms for my hobbies as well!
So there you have it... 3 hobbies, 3 rooms. Not too bad. Now I've got my eye on refinishing the basement...
Awesome setup for all three hobbies. Clean looking C5 you have there. Nice color, silver is one of my favorite colors.
You have a very cool and understanding wife. My wife is not even happy with my games being displayed on a shelf in the spare room. She wants them hidden away in a closet. :(
Great pictures, Fifty. Very nice, sane, NES collection! Also nice to see Order of the Griffon representing.

Oh, I do... just a few weeks ago, she really wanted a Kindle Fire. So that night she ordered one online. Last week she decided she wanted her hair dyed blonde, so she made an appointment at the hairdresser that weekend. I can't complain after all, as I just purchased a PC-FX lot and a 2nd TV for my game room. It works both ways.

Eventually. I'm going to wait til the dragstrips close for the season before I begin throwing parts at it. Right now alls it has is a Borla X-pipe, which I doubt adds much in the power department (maybe 5hp TOPS). I just installed it for a more throatier sound compared to the stock H-pipe. I want to get a good baseline, and I'll have to wait a few months for the cooler, denser air come late Oct - early Dec to truly find the cars max performance (so far, its gone 12.9 at 110mph in the 85+ degree summer heat). After that, I'll probably do the usual boltons... Vararam, LS6 intake, ported TB, short throw shifter, XS Power LTs, and a Z06 Ti catback. Until then, though, I can focus more time/money on the NEC stuff!

Lol, you are keeping two big expensive cars alive, but when it comes to a 200 buck game, you cant afford it? :)
Its, not that I can't afford it... but the wife just can't see paying that much for a video game. I kinda agree with her on that idea, too. Some games are just valued/priced in a range where I just don't think its worth it to shell out that kind of money, when other games are availible that are much cheaper and almost as fun. I mean, come on... Zenki costs as much as I paid for my entire PC-FX system plus 23 games! Maybe one day I'll have Zenki and Zeroigar, but probably not til I've sampled all the other, cheaper titles first.
BTW, Camaros are pretty cheap
yeah, but your PC-FX haul also was an ubersteal, and doesn't count as a general reference :)

I've always noticed a slight lag in my 8 and 16-bit consoles and realized if run them through the TV *then* to the receiver, the lag disappears. Granted, I don't get the nice up-scaling the receiver provides, but I sit so far back it really doesn't make any difference.
Still, a lot of my obeying is done in my bedroom on a 27" JVC Tube TV, but it's nice to be able to finally play while sitting on my couch and listening though a decent sound system. :)

The other one is my home theater one with PSX, PS2, X360 and Wii. A 22 x 12 room in the baseman with a 50 inch plasma TV.
Having no wife make's it easy to use all the spare room i want :) and being only 2 in a 3300 sqft house, it is easy to find some :). Only thing stopping me is the $$$. Need to keep some for other hobby like my 2004 BMW 325 CL convertible + SMG and Sport Package.

I think those came from an Ikea in San Diego circa 2003 or so... Same as the entertainment center. There used to be a glass door on the front that would slide from end to end, but I took it off. I think it looks better without, it's easier to access everything, and probably allows for slightly better air circulation. :)

The one thing I didn't like about the entertainment center was that there was only one small hole in each column to route wires through. If you look closely at the back, behind the consoles you can see I cut/tore big holes in the back to allow for easier wire routing and better air flow. That Onkyo receiver can really crank out the heat!

It takes a long time to make each one and I'm not terribly good at it. :) I guess I'm trying to say I'm a lazy jerk. Hell, I already have a Sparky english manual and insert for the game... I would just need the disc. I suck at burning images and patches (tried with Pia Carrot for the PC-FX and failed at many attempts). Had to ultimately have a forum member burn and send me a copy.
Let me know if you could do a disc only (crosses fingers)

That shelf, I've posted before. I had a buddy of mine build it for me out of solid maple wood. He is a cabinet builder, and made it without nails or anything. Some cut where all the joints kinda snap into position. :?: :?: Anyway, he will have to build another one soon..
I'm really digging these Turbo/PC Engine-themed collections. I collect a little of everything, new and old, all hardware manufacturers, so I don't have a unifying theme to my collection. At most, I guess someone might assume I like Nintendo and Sony games best looking at my collection since I have more games for their systems than others, plus most of my game-related merchandise seems to be based on games on either Nintendo or Sony systems.
I gotta laugh at all the problems with the wives/girlfriends. My future hubby actually gives ME the hard time for amassing so much game junk, haha. Although he loves games as much as me, but I'm much more of a collector. He doesn't seriously mind, but I have cut down my rate of acquiring stuff a bit in recent years. I've pretty well maxed out the space we have now, short of packing my shelves two rows deep and making them look ugly (which I have started doing to some extent). I dream of someday having my own dedicated game room, while he'll have his own dedicated music studio room.
damn bernie, that's like 3X what i've got!
that said, there's a lot of games there that I would personally never play, what with all the other games in my collection.

Bernie, that shelf is beautiful. And I'm familiar with the lack of screws, it's quite common in furniture building. Most often serious craftsman would never make it another way. I wasn't sure about the bags, but I really like it actually after a bit. gives it pizzazz.

I'm with Bernie here. :) I can't read Japanese. If I want to play a game it's way easier for me to locate it if everything is alphabetical. I'll admit it's not as pretty:
i45.tinypic.com/2wlx92e.jpg
Side note, here's the piece of hardware I'm most happy about right now! SuperGrafx with Super CD-ROM and Arcade Card :D :
i47.tinypic.com/2czxbr.jpg
Yes, it's dirty. It also kicks lots of ass! :D
I gotta Side with bernie on the organization.
I can read basic japanese, but anything with kanji screws with me, esp. since sometimes the font is just ridiculously small.
though i do occasionally get asked if they're all games for the same system.
I split my U.S. games between CDs and Turbochips and then alphabetize them. It took years of counseling before I could de-segregate my orange spines from the "colored" labels.
For PCE, I haven't even bothered to learn the names of some of my games, so I forgo the alphabet completely and break them down by format: CD, SCD, ACD, HU, and SGX. Inside of that, I have some genres like shooters, RPGs, and two-players loosely grouped together.
Gah, the madness of it all, haha. I'm majorly anal about the organization of Turbo/PC Engine games. I can't stand having the colors all mixed up. No matter what the system, I sort US and Japanese releases separately, but I have to take it a step further for my NEC stuff. I only have orange-spined TG-16 releases so far so that's easy enough, but for the Japanese releases, HuCards, CD-ROM, Super CD, and Arcade are all separate and then alphabetized within those groups (alphabetized according to the Roman alphabet, going off however the title should be properly romanized). Big box and normal jewel case PC-FX games also are kept separate, obviously.
Damnit!! Now I am feeling the need to reorganize.... ugh...
Geez, I even group Dreamcast games by the spine colour. Then by alpha. It drives me nutz when they change the label styles - like the PS1, ps2, ps3, DC, Genesis, TG16...
I'm the same with Dreamcast, haha. And red case Genesis games are separate from the rest, and PS1 long boxes from jewel cases, of course. It's probably a miracle that as of yet I've tolerated mixing in a few Greatest Hits with my jewel case PS1 games, and the newer style PSP cases are mixed in with the older ones that have the larger black tab on the top of the spine. The inconsistency of the PSP games really bugs me, though, so my organization of them might change in the future. Right now my PSP collection is still dominated by older releases.
I'm sort of with Bernie, and sort of with DK. My issue is I can never remember if it's an older TG release, a CD2 or SCD. So as much as I want to put the same labels together, and the same colours together I can't because I'd never find anything. I have about 100 games right now so I could probably manage it, but what happens when I get to 200? My brain would explode trying to find a specific title in less than 5 minutes. That's 5 minutes I could've been playing the game!
Small collection = sort by colour
Medium collection = sort by colour/name
Large collection = sort by name

This is why I love the often maligned PS2 games in the PAL region. They are all white, with big black lettering, and are very uniform. I love the simplicity of it, it looks far more respectable, imo.

The now retired PC at the top-right which I bought from Bestbuy in 2000 for ~$1,800 is what I was using during my Ys localization project/development days via Windows XP. Still have the newer 2006 Windows Vista PC next to the monitor since, oh, 2008 I think. The backlog stack of games was to try to motivate me to eventually play and finish them by having them sit there in my face every day, but the idea didn't work all that much... ; )

The rest of my collection is put away until I setup my storage room for gaming again. I will probably by then know how to post up multiple pics you can see without having to click onto photo links. Sorry guys this posting up in forums is all completely new to me. I'm just barely learning the ropes. Sorry about the crappy video quality also. My camera totally sucks !!

VERY nice game hardware there!
Let me say that more people should interior decorate with systems, handhelds and games!
P.S. I'm jealous of that Clamshell Case on the CD unit, I keep getting outbid, or missing out on them.

That's some setup you got there can the madcatz joysticks,be modded to work on a snes&genesis ?
@ Tron .. Yes it can if you buy a Ps adapter to Snes or Genesis .. I know there are other ways to do it besides that approach .. But I'm old school so I mod all my joysticks with Ps ports, because you can pretty much get those Ps adapters for any retro console .. It's much easier going about it that way in my opinion ...
I recently did a little re-organizing to my "Old School" setup so thought I post a few pics. As you can see, I prefer to sort my Turbo-collection by color. :)

Here is my little collection:

Dam some pretty nice pics. I need to upload some of my gameroom soon.
Figured I would get around to posting on this. My classic 2D gaming area contains the following:
1. Apex 24 inch CRT monitor with composite and S-video in and also composite out for recording on exterior devices
2. AMD Socket A Sempron 2400+ based computer strictly for Nebula and Mame, using a BFG Geforce FX 5900 XT via S-video out, and a Soundblaster Audegy
3. region modded Sega Genesis with S-video out
4. region modded Duo-R with S-video out
5. TurboDuo with S-video out
6. Altec Lansing stereo speaker and subwoofer set from 2002 (floor firing sub and main speakers have floor firing speakers with front tweeters)
7. Digital picture frame that auto slide shows different NEC related game screen shots and cover art, and auto plays MP3 music tracks from Lords of Thunder and Gradius II when it is turned on
/DSCN6649.jpg
28 loose hucards stored in there in sports card sleeves. Other container holds loose Genesis and Mega Drive carts and other small things I may need.

That frame is a thing of beauty! Every game room should have something like that! :D

Totally agree! I've actually got one of those digital frames (received it as a present) and have never used it, but I think I've just found a use for it after all. :)
Professor, why did you pull out the 3DO before taking the pictures? I see empty space that clearly was home to FZ-1 and Star Control 2 and several other sweet titles...
Have not had a 3DO in years. Sold my M2 stuff late last year and early this year also.
http://youtu.be/0Uq4RB23ZTI
That was the last M2 I had.
PCEngineHell I really like that digital picture frame .. I especially like that Sengoku 3 poster .. That is one killer game !! You guys have some really clean well organized collections .. Big time props to all of you .. Keep the Brag n' Boast coming!
Yes, with that picture frame I too can be a curator for a museum of video game quality history.
Nice setup. Is that area an alcove to a main room? Seems like a perfect spot for a gaming area.

This is probably the single best gameroom innovation I've seen AND the best use for a digital picture frame.

+1. Perfect niche to get your dork on without turning the living room into a museum.

The two upstairs bedrooms in the house I live in are basically loft like in design, with said alcoves, one per room located at the front bedroom window. Basically makes a nice little gaming area. My son uses the spot in his room for his gaming pc. For me its a nice little spot where I can go and focus on the classic stuff without any distractions.
Pretty nice rooms guys.
Prof that picture frame is an absolutely brilliant idea, I may have to bite that some day if I ever get a nice area to set up.
It's been a while since I've posted in this thread. If you don't remember, this is what it looked like before;

I decided to paint the room grey and finally framed my awesome Cafepress poster. Here's the result;

I'd still like to frame up some other items, but I think it's coming along pretty nicely considering it's only a 10 x 8 room in my basement. The picture really doesn't capture the awesomeness of the room. :(
Very nice Fifty!

That is wicked cool, Fifty!
I spot IKEA :) I have the same shelves but in white and the same glass CD cabinet.
Thanks guys!
Quote from: Deletion on 06/20/2013, 04:43 PMI spot IKEA :) I have the same shelves but in white and the same glass CD cabinet.
The room is sponsored by IKEA. ;)
IKEA in the room includes;
The black PS3 shelf on the right (recent purchase).
The black glass CD shelf circa late 1990's.
The silver/wood shelves on the left bought in early '01.
The silver framed CafePress TG poster on the right (recent purchase).
The silver magnet board in the far left corner (recent purchase).
The apartment size couch I think is from Leon's, but it might be Loblaws. Bought it used off Kijiji. The inexpensive furniture keeps Mrs. Quid happy and allows me to spend the money on more games.
I think I'm going to spend some money and get an Asteroids mural going on the back wall. I loved playing Asteroids on Atari back as a kid;

This might look good too, or a variant of it. It's something simple I could just print out myself.

Asteroids! I loved that as a kid (and now). I never thought of that as the subject for a mural. It's totally do-able! Not nearly as intimidating as, say, a billion plastic beads recreating R-Type. :pcgs:
Do you have a link to that Turbo poster? That is all kinds of awesome :D

It was designed, I think, by the forum creator Aaron Nanto. :) If you go to the root of this site and dig around, you'll also find a link to it along with some other wares.
I thought of doing the million bead R-Type mural, but the wall decals are more cost effective.

Majors I love that you have Gals Panic S running, great game
At this point that's not a garage, it's an arcade.
I enjoy the chair choices! but seriously that is one heck of a nice set up. :D Homecade.

Some garage you have there. Where the hell do you park the car? Ha!
You'd be pretty disappointed to see my garage. It has weird crap in it like drills and socket sets. Oh, and a car!
No wonder the "City" cabs are hard to come by. Majors is buying them all.
Nice arcade!
I only have garage :(
Wow!

Just an update on this IKEA frame for anyone thinking of buying it - don't. Last night I was playing some Pinball Arcade and the poster slipped inside the frame to the bottom. The tabs that hold everything in place only hold the edges down, so because the Turbo Legacy poster doesn't fill the frame you can see wrinkling due to lack of 'press' in any place but the edges. Back to the drawing board for this one. I'm thinking of getting the poster laminated onto press board now. Just not sure if I want to go this route as it use to cost about $100 to do it.
