Title: New to the world of Turbografx
Post by: NintendoTwizer on 02/03/2014, 06:48 PM
Hi everyone.  I've been collecting for awhile, but am just now getting into Turbografx.  I played some as a kid and had a great time doing so, I'm looking forward to getting back into it.  Also I have a probably dumb newbie question.  What is this item next to the Turbografx pictured below?

Thanks for the heads up on the region converter.  :)  Another question for you guys, is there a solid list of North American Turbografx releases on the site?

There probably is a list somewhere, but it's easier to go to PCE Daisakusen!! (http://www.pcedaisakusen.net/2/27/list-games--2-0-100-name-asc-0.htm) or PCECP (http://www.pcecp.com/index.php?mode=catalog&action=normalsearch) and limit it to US games.

^ Welcome. Got some great games so far. Hope you enjoy it here. Def consider getting a modded turbo duo or pc duo to play some of the CD games and PCE games

not that bonk 3 CD is very good compared to the PCE PC Genjin 3 couterpart, but it got expensive as hell.

What are the differences?

Removed animation frames to fit within SuperCD ram limits, chip tunes swapped for redbook audio, and vs. battles added.

I Got the PC Genjin 3 Hu Card so I'm quite happy but I thought the CD Rom attachment and system card added a lot of RAM?

The amount of work ram and video ram is the same on all systems (except the SGX, obviously).  The additional ram used for Super CD games is one fourth the size of huey Bonk, and the game can't constantly access the disc like it can a cart, so cuts were be made to fit within the ram limit.  With more time and/or better programmers (like those that made Dracula X), the cuts wouldn't have been necessary at all.

By the way, I don't know if you're trolling or willfully ignorant/forgetful of past discussions, but this has been covered more than once before.  In any case, maybe the info. will be useful to others.

I'll check my notes but I was just wondering, loads aside, why there were cuts, as you had stated that proper programming could have alleviated this issue.  I would have figured that an A+ title like Bonk would have A+ development.  I am happy to have the Huey I was looking for a CD copy but now not so much.

Bonk 3 CD is a late US only title, when money and talent were in short supply.  No doubt it had 1/20 (or less) budgeted for staff and time compared to Dracula X.

It was useful to me. Totally thought that the CD ver. of Bonk 3 was completely superior in every way unless you prefer chip tunes over arranged music. Now I know and knowledge is power... I think... I-I'll get back to you on that.* *considers whether or not it's a good idea to get back to him* :3
