you remember the good times?
It's now soon 4 years since konami decided to change their top-notch over decades well known "small-wave" logo to the fugly konami writing. why in the hell, konami just made this big step backward in public appearance?
it's without a doubt perhaps the best logo a game company ever could have and they just kicked it straight to hell for any reason. arses!
really miss it :(
You're not the only one. My disappointments were even Konami straightening up their letters. I always liked the letters slanted.
Konami changed their logo? Whoa, I guess I would've needed to play some newer games to find out what the hell's going on...
teh lol
I miss that logo too, it always had a special charm to it, especially with the little Konami jingle that plays with it. By the way, is there any significance to that logo?

Ah! Ko(小)Nami(波)! Damn - that
is brilliant. I never made the connection.
The old logo is about a million times better - much more recognizable, and just overall a lot more soothing to look at that the boring new logo.
The old logo is awesome, but I kind of like the new one too. Its simple, distinct, and looks nice on a game box, like all game company logos should.
here the very early logo which they used before the two "small waves".
I've seen the newer Konami logo on every official Yugioh package since I started working as a merchandiser. Never thought about it, really.
It was the most legendary logo, everybody knows it, along with the Konami cheat which I think of almost everytime I see it. A tribute!
I've liked all of their logos. The first "Kionami" logo is awesome because it is so weird-looking.
hehe..kionami..weird indeed
That original Konami logo actually reminds me quite a bit of the Nintendo logo.
I think it looks like "Kjonami" myself. :P
Quote from: natThat original Konami logo actually reminds me quite a bit of the Nintendo logo.
Perhaps that's why it was changed. They thought it looked a little
too close to Nintendo's logo and feared that Nintendo would go after their asses for it. In my opinion, it was for the better. This first logo looks too dull!
As for the logo change, yes, I am
very disappointed that they had to shelf the original logo in favor of that new boring one. Konami's argument for this is that they want to improve themselves for the future and wanted a new logo to reflect upon their improvement. In other words, it's a business decision (more like business politics) for them. They thought that keeping the old logo with the waves would make them look too "old-fashioned". I call BS on this as Capcom has never changed their logo ever since they went into the video game development business back in the 80's and are still great today as they were back then.
What would happen if Hudson felt the need to eliminate the bee from their logo in order to make themselves more "improved"? Food for thought.
I definitely think the old one looks old-fashioned, whereas the new one looks stylish and well... better. :)
Yeah Capcom's logo is still kickass looking, I love Capcom. They're easily one of the most consistently awesome developers out there, if not the best (since Sega has gone downhill the last few years).
God I hate Capcom with a passion and I'm probably the only one too.
Just curious Keranu - can I ask why you hate Capcom (passionately, no less)? Do you hate the games, the company, the whoring out of once proud franchises, or some combination thereof?
Quote from: Keranu on 02/08/2007, 04:06 PMGod I hate Capcom with a passion and I'm probably the only one too.
Really? That makes me very happy! I hate them with a passion too. Every single Capcom game I've played (except RE4) has been crap. They also love milking their already crappy series (Mega Man, Resident Evil, their random action junk) to death. I hate when companies do that, with bad games no less. Ugh. Never liked Capcom. Never will.
The grand list of good Capcom games:
- Resident Evil 4
- Duck Tales NES
Damn Seldane, that's a lot of games to hate. No love for the Street Fighter series, Mega Man series, or 1941 (my favorite Capcom title)? I agree that they pimped 'em out over the years, but that doesn't make the originals suck.
Damn...there's a glitch in the matrix. Up to this day I never ran into anyone who had a blazing hate for Capcom.
you love crap like pac land, but hate the goodness of Mega Man? #-o
SEGA still has the same logo as well.
I don't hate Capcom. Maybe y'all hate them due to some "Capcom envy" because you haad a Turbo/PC Engine and they rarely made games for it? I think that's it. Don't try to deny it.
Capcom definitely cranked out solid titles over the years.
Though I must say that Capcom fanboys were annoying. They were like, "Hey, let's go play Saturday night slam masters!", and I'd reply with how much I thought it sucked, and they'd simply say, "But it's CAPCOM!"
I guess I dislike (hate is such a strong word, let's say I dislike them instead) Capcom because I pretty much only like and play RPGs. Capcom hasn't made many of those, but they did make Breath of Fire. The only game that's actually made me feel physically ill!
Capcom pretty much only makes pure action games, another genre that I definitely do not like at all. Nor do I like fighting games.
I don't get what's so good about Mega Man. Mega Man 8 was pretty fun, and so was Mega Man and Bass, but the rest...
Oh, the rest. :-&
Yeah you're definitely the only one. You need to say "I love Insector X & Timeball but hate Capcom!" in the same sentence so I can use it as a sig.

Somehow I had a feeling you were going to agree with me :D . I'm not going to waste my time here arguing why I hate Capcom so much, but let me get the games I do like from Capcom out of the way:
- Duck Tales 1 and 2 (NES)
- Street Fighter II series (anything you can name)
- Street Fighter Alpha 3 somewhat
I started writing an article for my site about my hatred for Capcom but haven't worked on it much. You guys can check out my thoughts there when I finally manage to finish it up.

I would say that, but I'm afraid I don't like Timeball :( .
Phoenix Wright, resident Evil 4 and X-Men vs Street Fighter all kick ass.
i liked capcom the best between their beginning in 1984 until 1994. they made some extremely beautiful games in any aspects of view. especially on their CPS1 board and its pre-hardware, just to mention some of the top notch titles:
- 1984 (serie)
- makaimura / ghosts'n goblins
- gunsmoke
- legendary wings / ares no tsubasa
- commando / senjo no okami
- daimakimura / ghouls'n ghosts
- final fight
- SFII (', turbo)
and as well as bunch of great exclusive FC/SFC etc. games.
but for myself, i also hate the rockman series to no end and will do that probably to the end of my poor life.
never knew there were so many mega man haters...

i hate it coz its miserable gameplay. for example i hate it when you killed an enemy, which is placed to the most difficult place where you just can place an enemy to kill, then slide back only a single pixel and this damn muthafucka is there again. houly doublecrossin' fuck.
and they never learned about their misstakes from their previous parts and did it again and again. therefore i learnd to hate this serie and just can't stop hating it.

Not to mention there are six of the same game on the NES and they didn't bother adding a shoot up option :) . And it doesn't stop there either! ;)
I enjoy Mega Man 2 lots and lots. I somewhat enjoy Mega Man 1 and 3. I don't care for any other Mega Man game.
I enjoy all the original MM games, but, 7 was eh, 8 was ok, as was MM & B. The X series is cool, except 7 which sucks for the most part, I haven't gotten into the Zero series, I have it, but, I don't know if I'll ever enjoy it. I have the Legends games, they're cool I guess, haven't played thru them. The Battle Network ones don't do a damn thing for me. But, now I LOVE the ZX series, it's Mega Man, & it's Metroidesque! I got sucked into the first game, can't wait for the next!
Hmm, most of the stuff I enjoy from Capcom, is old school, there's not much these days that pleases me from them. Frankly, Konami has been one of the most consisten companies IMO, they've been delivering nice games to my door for all these years. They're not Falcom, nor are they Mindrec or Frozen Utopia, but, hey, you can only be soo good
I can hardly imagine someone hating a company that produced classic games like the SF II, the 1942 or the Makaimura series. There was a time when I played through their Daimakaimura port for the SGFX three times a day. Capcom 大好き!!
Dead Rising is really cool. Lost Planet is cool as well, but I don't want to pay $60 for that. I'll get it when it goes down to around $40 or so.
Quote from: guyjin on 02/08/2007, 09:49 PMthat's harsh; what about it was so bad?

I can't think of a single good thing about it, and I have no idea why I even bothered to play it (of course, I never finished it). Fortunately, I'll never touch it again. Looking forward to that.
Also: Dead Rising, Lost Planet (or whatever) .. those are your typical Capcom games. Can't they ever come up with anything new? All they do is action games that are super cool to 12 year olds. I don't understand how anyone can like them. I don't even like their "classics" like Ghosts 'n Goblins, 1942, etc. Just terrible! ](*,)

I can see how some people can dislike certain era's of a company, like say modern Capcom or Konami in general. Just as many people only like the early albums of certain bands. But its unusual for someone as non-ignorant or fanboyish as yourself to outright say you hate a classic game maker like Capcom.
I know that as much as I love so many classic Capcom games, I don't like many of the untouchable titles like Strider.
I'd never say I hate Hudson, although the Hudson Soft I love died years ago. But of course, you're already picking out 20 year old Capcom games you don't like, so I guess its not the same thing.
I think part of it may be a generational gap, since by the time you started to recognize the name Capcom, they'd already past their prime. Where as when I was growing up and most kids either didn't own home consoles or the NES hadn't come out yet. And Capcom was responsible for most of my favorite arcade games, during a time when arcades actually meant something.

Personally, I think that the Megaman series is based on a good idea that never got fully realized or fully understood by it's own publisher. Just like Castlevania, but that series is not nearly as bad a scenario and it's rehashes are a lot better.

Keranu, you're in a tough spot now: I don't know how you're gonna explain your feelings about Capcom. :) I guess this means I'll have to re-think the birthday gift I picked out for you (Section Z and Sidarms Special). Oh well :(.
I'm not going to start teasing you now (I'll wait until you have time to explain things further).
Anyway, suffice it to say that Capcom made a ton of great games, IMO.
Bionic motherfuckin' Commando... no wait, nearly *all* of Capcom's NES titles were solid! Back in the day (8-bit/16-bit), I knew that I would be getting my money's worth with Capcom / Konami. This was not a fact. It was the law. The LAW. OK, I'm laying it on a bit thick, but the point is that both companies had a great track record, AFAIAC :) (did I make that up? or do some folks use AFAIAC?)
This alone is reason to love Capcom, and we haven't even touched the arcade games or games for other consoles!

Play it. You've obviously never even seen one in real life, judging from your posts. I don't care what you're going to say about it from now on - I know you'll be lying.

Honestly, one game that justifies the PSP to me is Capcom Classics Collection Remixed.
I wouldn't have bought a PSP as soon as I did if it weren't for that game. I probably would've still bought The Apocalypse IV, but could've let it sit on a shelf next to my other TM games.
As I said, I'm not going to bother arguing here. I know there are tons of hardcore Capcom fans everywhere, so I don't want to piss people off and frankly I don't want to be pissed off.
Haha Seldane you're a riot, I've owned a PSP twice and sold it both times because the games are total and utter SHIT. The only decent games on the system were Ultimate Ghouls N Ghosts & Mega Man X. Face it, nobody likes the system because it sucks and it'll hopefully be dead before long so developers stop wasting their time on it.

Needless to say, I left feeling extremely confused!!!

no, i try to say that konami changed the gamish logo to a neutral overall one, because they have a lot of BIG side business beside of developing games for some nerds auta.
I wonder what kind of insurance Konami Insurance sells.
I wonder if they do auto. If so, I need to switch immediately. I want the Richter Belmont plan with the Vic Viper collision coverage.
that would be awesome!! forcefield full coverage.
