Title: Camp California Soundtrack
Post by: TheClash603 on 07/14/2010, 02:51 AM
Does anyone own the Camp California soundtrack?  I was playing Camp California today, and when I opened the case, I realized the advertisement for the soundtrack on the back of the instruction manual.

I would love to know what songs are on this thing...  anyone actually have it?

Probably just a bunch of Beach Boys songs.

Interesting question.  8)

After a quick jaunt through the interwebs and not finding any mention of it on various Beach Boy fan-sites and discography lists, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it was canceled; if it does exist, surely it at least has all the songs included in the game.

You already have it. Put the game CD in your audio CD player and press Play.

Whatever it is, where ever it is, I will pay $1000 for it. Even if its the CDROM game in a different case, for I am...a collector!

I assume there are a few Beach Boys songs, maybe the Camp California rap, and perhaps some of the rocking stage tunes?

It says it is already available, which makes me think it was released at the same time as the game.

Could this be the new holy grail of the TG16?

Really, what a lame-ass excuse for a holy grail that would be. I mean, paying more for Magical Chase than it costs to have a PC Engine LT is one thing, but a fucking Camp California OST? Who could possibly give a shit?

...although...

I just re-read T.H. White's "The Once and Future King" a while back (totally great, btw) and in this version of the old story Arthur sends his knights on the quest for the grail (or whatever relics they can dig up) not because he actually gives a shit about them but because he had 100 knights who were basically violent rich guys with swords who would spontaneously kill themselves and others out of boredom from sitting around doing nothing all the time. In the end, the plan didn't work...but maybe it could work here.

If we could generate enough hype for stupid shit no sane person would care about (Holmes matchbook calculators, Camp California OSTs, Isuzu diesel cab overs, etc) then maybe the attention (and funds) would be drawn away from the actual games, and then normal sane people could go back to paying the $10-50 than a game should cost when they want to play one. Send these dumb fucks with big credit cards on a pointless crusade!

Not sure where you got the idea I wanted to spend big bucks on this soundtrack, I don't recall ever saying that.  In fact, all though I love Camp California, there was definitely some sarcasm from me posting this being a holy grail.

Would I love the Camp Cali OST?  Yes.  Will I pay more than $30-40 for it?  No.

More importantly, why ruin a thread by going all crazy and ranting?

Don't worry, it's cheap.

I just picked up a copy myself, thanks for the link.  I wanted to get 3 copies, 1 for myself to open, 1 to keep sealed, and 1 to give as a wedding gift...  but none of the non-amazon sellers can update quantities, so it would be $2.99 shipping per item...  WEAK!

Finally had a chance to listen to this bad boy...  key word bad.

The Beach Boys songs are all actually performed by the characters of Camp California.  Each of the songs has lyric changes, or lyrics added, such as Wipe Out.  There are also a few original songs, which were also terrible.  It seems as though the whole album should be preformed by mechanical bears on the stage of my favorite arcade from when I was a child.

In the end, the awfulness is just what I expected, and why I love it.  My girlfriend is in for a treat when we are in the car again tomorrow, so she can listen to these tunes.

Anyone else listen to the CD yet?  What did you think?

I'm waiting for my copy to arrive. I ordered it after Vestcunt provided a link to one for sale on Amazon.

So the instrumental rock music found in the actual game isn't on this CD?  Too bad.  Does anybody else think that for laid-back California '70s rock, the ingame music for CC is really good?

Yeah, the in-game music (non-Beach Boys) is CC is bad ass. It's obviously by the same folks that did the stellar Shape Shifter.

Speaking of Shapeshifter, I was playing DrumMania Masterpiece Silver when I noticed that one of the songs has the same music as in the forest on your way to the Spider Boss.

My copy was delivered on Saturday, so I popped it in for the drive to work this morning; while I've only heard the first three songs, I'll agree that it's pretty horrible.  It's about what I expected, though: lot's of cheese with subtle lessons, as found in most children's music.

Shit yeah; the tunes fit the game perfectly.

Hearing all the wonderful reviews, I'm now perfectly content at mine being a "show piece" and not a "play piece".

Lame!  Open it up!

You can even crack the weird holographic sticker that holds the CD closed.  I never saw one of these before.

Mine didn't come with a holographic sticker. I got a fold out coloring page though.

No holo sticker here either, but is that coloring page the lyrics sheet?  I didn't bother to unfold mine.  :-k

Nancy Cartright is listed in the credits; I guess that explains why Lil' Bro sounds quite a bit like Ralph Wiggum.

I guess it could be the lyrics sheet. I didn't unfold it either. Since it was a kids CD and there were some characters that were uncolored, I just figured it was a coloring page.

Sadly I think the music is actually the best part of this game. Gameplay wise CC is so annoyingly difficult despite the kiddish look of it all.

Music in game is awesome... better than the soundtrack.  Anyone ever actually beat this game?

So like any good Turbo gamer I ordered a copy before sharing the link a few weeks ago.  When the disc arrived I listened to a few songs and threw it in the trash.  Seriously, this thing doesn't justify the space it takes up on a shelf.  The one use I can think of would be using the artwork to make a package for that alternate Camp California prototype we've seen pictures of if a ROM is ever found.
