it might help if you list what you have. I might be interested in maybe one-third of that lot if you decide to split it up. What country you in?

Yeah I know you want to sell it as a lot, but you'd probably have a lot of luck selling them here individually. I'd be interested in what you have as I'm looking out for a few games I need to add.  :)

MotherGunner

Hi guys, thanks for the interest.  The reason why I want to sell as a lot is because I need to sell it all pretty quickly as I will need the money for my vacation which is a week away; I don't have the time to spend on shipping, packaging materials, waiting on payments, holds, etc.  I am in California, USA.

If I don't make a sale this week, odds are I will be either holding on to this or sell it as a lot at a later time to someone who wants to spend the overhead resources.  So far I've had about 5 interested parties with two having backed out already which is why I asked for serious inquiries.  I appreciate your understanding.

All CD games have no scratches and all cases are clean and adult-owned, in Japanese re-sealable baggies.  PCE CD titles all have spine cards and most have reg cards as well.  Some American titles will have a rebuilt case (Keith courage or clip style case at random + Sparky label;  [SL] where marked).  Every HuCard comes with a hucard plastic sleeve.

Some games have been added after picture was taken so they don't appear in photo.  I can provide pictures on request.

I got a response from him saying he wanted around 2,200 for the whole lot. Unfortunately I just don't have that kind of money to dump into video games.

CGQuarterly

Yeah.  With all due respect, that's way too high for a bulk purchase.  If you wanted that much, you should have sold them individually.  You say you're in a hurry, but the way you're doing it you may not sell them at all before your vacation.

Chris

shubibiman

2 200$ is just twice as much as the real value of this lot.

Yeah, that seems kind of nuts. When will people realize that people don't buy lots, at least not for anywhere near the prices the stuff would sell separately for? The most valuable games here are Nexzr, Kaze Kiri...then what? Strider...then a bunch of stuff that's nowhere near that valuable (I might be overlooking something).
IMG

turbogrfxfan

Yeah at least sell those games separate. You may get a decent price then. I'd sell that lot for six hundred at most and sell the gems separate   good luck. I hope u get what u want
"Is everyone from jersey a trolling douche?"

incrediblehark

there are a few there I would be interested in if you decide to split up, but the asking price for the lot seems high.

Keep in mind that this is a pc engine / pc-fx board, and a lot of people on here have a lot of these games, and are only looking to fill in a few holes in  their collection rather than buying a whole one instantly.

Guys, all the perceived hostility behind my asking price is a surprise.

I feel $2,191 US is a fair asking price as they are consistent with what some of you on this very board are asking for your games shipped (accounting for shipping costs, packing materials, gas on trips back and forth from the post office, personal time, etc).  Some of my PCE CDs happen to be complete even, unlike some of the same games sold here, yet the asking prices are consistent, a simple search on these very same forums will show that.

I don't want to split the lot at this point in time.  Sorry, but I explained why and many of you know I have been a part of this forum for a while now (longer than some of you) and I am not known to be a price gouger.  I know what I am doing and what my games are worth; I respectfully don't want to argue with any of you about them.   I am considering splitting it myself but perhaps at a later time OR I will end up keeping the lot as I explained.   Again, I feel I priced them consistent with the asking prices on this forum.  See below. I hope you can now give me the same civility I have hoped to show you.  Thanks... :)

Opethian

The point of a game lot is to help move games that normally would not sell on thier own. My offer still stands on the JP games minus Kaze Kiri as I have no use for the TG games.

all those games under $10 should be cosidered free
IMG

geise

That individual list pricing to show that it's worth what you are asking is still high on a lot of those games.  Most of the higher priced games I have bought for half of what you are wanting in that lot.
Download 2 I got complete for $20.
Shubibinman 3 $12 complete.
Kiaidan 00 $40
Rayxanber II $20
Advanced VG $10 Complete
Kazekiri $95 Complete
Nexzr $75 Complete
120% Azuka Burning Fest  $25

You should sell the more expensive games you have seperately.  You might even get more than what you want from them.  It's going to  be to hard to sell that lot for that much.  Good luck.

roflmao

I've recently picked up a handful of those games both on this forum and from ebay and they were all less than your estimated value.  Many of them by 50%.  If you're looking to sell them as a lot, then I think you're going to have difficulty selling them at even half of your current asking price, because many of us already have a good chunk of those games are are just looking to flesh out our collection.  And someone just getting into the system is probably not very likely to drop a grand (or 2!) for a collection, regardless of how many good games are included.

Just my .02. :)

That price is a little high but it keeps the work out of having to find all those games separately and to not have to keep waiting around for a good deal on each one of those from elsewhere. So to each his own I guess.

SignOfZeta

Honest question: does anyone actually buy huge expensive lots? I see them sometimes on eBay, like $20,000 Neo Geo lots, NES lots of 2000 games, etc. I always thought it was just a way of bragging about one's collection, but this guy seems to actually want to move the stuff, so I'm wondering if it ever happens that way.

I mean, who says, "I don't own anything Turbo, but all of the sudden I want to drop $2000 on a shitload of it."? Who even can come up with that much money at once for something so trivial?

All at once, I may do it around tax season or something when I actually have the extra cash to di it with.  Other than that, I have to pick away at the games I want piece by piece.  The amount of money is the same, just not all at the same time.  Other than that, if these games were to be sold individually, I see quite a few I would hit on.  I dont feel the prices are too high.

Yes, I know a game store that bought a lot of random retro games like that on Craigslist for several thousand dollars. Keep in mind, it was for a store.

Yeah, I think this is far more often the case (in the rare instances were people do buy lots of games for thousands of dollars.)

I pay cash for virtually everything, especially entertainment items. My game collection might be smaller than a lot of other NEC fans, but it's mine, forever.
IMG

BlueBMW

I bought out Lord_Cacks collection, that was less that $1000 but not by too much.  It just happened to hit at a good time for me money wise.  It seems like typically a big lot will net you a lot of games at less than market value.  This just always seems to happen for some reason.  Its convenient for the seller to be done in one shot, and its inconvenient for the buyer having to first shell out a large sum of cash, and then second figure out what to do with all the extra fluff that he/she doesn't need/want.
[Sun 23:29] <Tatsujin> we have hard off, book off, house off, sports off, baby off, clothes off, jerk off, piss off etc

Firebomber7

Yeah, part of buying a lot of to get a lot of stuff for somewhat LESS than the value of each individual item. You put up with getting some things you don't need in order to save a bit of money overall.

What you, the seller, seems to be doing is calculating the going rate (the higher end of the going rate at that!) and adding it all together as a lot and expecting someone to buy it like that. Clearly you are looking for money, and are not trying to give any sort of a deal. That is the very definition of price gouging. It is very unlikely that anyone on any retro game forum would go for that, because most of us know we can find better deals with some more work. You shouldn't be surprised at some of the hostile comments, especially having been on this site for awhile.

It is a nice collection, but I think you will have a very difficult time selling it for more than a grand (even that is too high) as a lot unless you can find someone who doesn't want to put the effort into looking around and just wants as much as possible in a single lot.

$35 for Far East of Eden II is beyond price gouging. That's a 100yen game in Japan. 500yen MAX in good condition CIB. That isn't the only game so far off base.

In response to spending a large sum of money:
I bought 1400.00 worth of games just so everyone here could get then for 20.00 each.  Its all depends on the person. When you are single with no kids and arent spending much money its not too difficult.  For someone who is a parent.....I cant see doing that.

Buying an entire collection on the other hand also takes some of the fun out of the hobby.  Sometimes waiting and finding a good deal on a game you have wanted to play is part of the fun.  I also agree that selling an entire collection is to move the games you will die with!  I cant blame the seller for wanting what is worth to him but the price just seems to high for a forum and more geared for Egay. (not trying to insult seller or anyones opinions here)

Agreed, this is why I calculated the ASKING price between me and initial interested parties. Do I expect to get that?  Of course not, that was meant to be a starting negotiating price.  I am more than willing to take quite a few $100s of dollars losses if the price is right (and providing they are not an insult to anyone's intelligence).

Again, look at what some people here are asking for their games.

Of course you should be willing to take losses. Most PCE games were $60-$80 a piece when new and very few of them are worth half that now, many are worth 1/10.

I paid $20 for Tengai II 15 years ago. It has done nothing but drop in price since then and the only reason why it hasn't dropped even more is because it's at rock bottom. Its a GREAT game, but the case it's in is worth more than the game itself.

It's about $20 in Japan at the moment at regular retro game shops.

Where were the prices on that list coming from??? It really is way off base, even if you consider import prices and not "buying in Japan" prices. Maybe the price is coming from a decade-old price list.

Hey man thanks! Same to you.  I would say I paid around the same and sometimes more on around 65-70% once you calculate shipping, tax (in some rare cases), etc.  Yes I wasn't the best at getting deals you might say.  There are some games I did pay less for but I don't see anything wrong with trying to make a profit as again the prices I feel are consistent with the prices on this forum.

I think the real problem is that I wanted to get rid of it as a lot and the prices are not consistent with Japanese prices.  Yes I know they are not, they were never meant to be... the prices are consistent with what people have asked for their games here which I have stated and restated.  I could care less about Japan prices and I am not forcing anyone to buy my lot.  I don't feel it's getting ugly at all.. I don't take anything personal and at the end of the day it's their opinion which I respect.  Just the same though your suggestion is sound so I think I will hold onto these a little longer.  Thanks guys.   :D

These were the ones that REALLY caught my eye price wise (where I added prices).  Mind you these are even using general Ebay prices, not the usual much cheaper on forums deal (plus of course BIG bundles are almost always sold at a loss).  A lot of the cheapies were pretty good, but once you got $30+ they were all way jacked up IMO.  If you still need the $ even a few medium sized bundles (with 1-2 of the better titles to help em move better) would prob be a lot better for you.

I think people should be able to sell there stuff at what ever price they want. Nobody is forcing anybody to buy it. Either ignore them, or buy it,...but dont trash the ad and give them no chance to sell it. Nobody is selling a lot that big right now so I think he can put whatever price on it he wants.

Just like when member-KeithCourage was selling a CD drive. How can you tell somebody else what price to sell their stuff. The CD drive is kinda rare on the market now. And so is a big lot of games like this. The best thing to do is BUY it, or IGNORE the ad.

I participate in the ebay gouging thread about items that are commonly sold and than some idiot sells the same thing for way more. But that is different than this. The ebay gouging thread happens with items that are listed at the same time for half price or less.

I understand the whole concept of insulting people that you think are overpricing, in order to keep prices low for everyone collecting. But when it is a big lot of games or a cd-drive or something YOU ARE NOT SELLING YOURSELF for WAY cheaper....than let them sell or try to sell.

If you dont like the price and you actually do ignore them, than the thread gets moved to the bottom. Do you want it at the top (free bump from arguing) or bottom of the list?

I'm not justifying high prices. I am thinking of an alternative to arguing/whining/bitching about it.

I know Im going out on a limb here.....I'll take that chance. It's a free market. Lighten up.

Yet arguing/whining/bitching about the other posts is much different  (especially when MG seems mostly ok with it all)?  He already canceled the sale so it's moot now.  To be hinest this was a LOT more civil than many previous threads.  Around her it has always been "if you want ebay prices go sell on ebay" where the buyer has more protection, you pay a helluva lot in fees, etc.

Why should u pay full price on games if you buy in bulk
"Is everyone from jersey a trolling douche?"

Hey, if you can sell it... then all the power to you. I just think you'll have a lot of trouble selling it to most members here that keep tabs on going rates for things and buy in bulk to save money.

You should not, there is (was) plenty of room for bartering to a price point that makes sense.  =)

I really hate the "free market" defense.  We're all accustomed to living in a world where people charge whatever they want and there's a wonderful place to go do that: ebay.  The "gouging" thread and Fuck Ebay Club are obvious indicators of our "stay out of our world and we'll stay out of yours" mentality when it comes to free-market schmucks.

The arguing/whining/bitching you're so critical of comes hand-in-hand with the cheap games, homemade labels, free Sapphire bootlegs, and twenty-dollar sealed games found on these forums.  It's part of the culture that sustains our alternative market (or circle of 20 guys bitching and cutting each other deals, in Professorson's opinion).  Threads like this and "gouging" are our ad hoc price guide and reality check to a world of Buy It Now prices and bullshit reverse auctions where the sellers control the price.  All of this arguing has a purpose.

It's also in no way unusual.  The sticky over at the 3DO Zero marketplace says it best:
Quote7. Price reasonably. Just because eBay has such-and-such for $1,000 does not mean it's worth a $1,000 or anyone on here would consider paying a $1,000. Research your price first. Repeatedly inflated prices could get you ousted.

...

9. For items badly described, priced and presented, heckling is actively encouraged. So is bullying and sarcastic comments. You have been warned. We actively operate a mob rule culture here, which includes but is not limited to vigilantism.
In Mothergunner's case, he's a good guy with good intentions, he just paid too much for his games and was out of touch on their current value.

It's about $20 in Japan at the moment at regular retro game shops.

Where were the prices on that list coming from??? It really is way off base, even if you consider import prices and not "buying in Japan" prices. Maybe the price is coming from a decade-old price list.
hey firebomber you are back in Japan already?
