@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

Where is the lens supposed to sit on a TurboDuo?

Hey, newbie here.  My third TurboDuo in one year has failed me.  A few days ago, I opened the door, manually stopped a CD from spinning, and now it doesn't spin at all.  Two questions:  1) Did I break a motor?
and 2)  The lens presently sits toward the outside of the CD, yet I notice that on other systems (Dreamcast, Amiga CD32, Saturn, etc.) the lens sits at rest toward the middle.  Where is it supposed to be?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.  (Fray in Magical Adventure came in the mail today, but she can't come out and play!)

It's common for the lens on the Duo to get stuck at the outer end of the track as you describe. When it gets stuck the drive won't spin.

With your Duo on and no game inserted, use your finger to guide the laser back to the center "home" position. If you absolutely can't move it with your finger you may have to open the deck up and spin the gears inside to get it back home.

Also-- do you still have those broken Duos? I'd be willing to fix them for you. If not, I'd buy them off you for a small fee.

Okay.  I'll buy a bit tool from ebay and try to move it back.  Thanks.

(As far as the other Duos, one is a DuoR and the other an interface unit with CD-ROM2.  email me to discuss:  romanoaj31@hotmail.com)

This is basically known as a CD-R problem.

I would strongly advise against pushing the lens with your finger.  I encountered this problem two years ago and was assured by a reliable source that it would move if I just pushed hard enough.  It never moved and I eventually had to buy a screw bit and open everything up to reset the lens.  Unfortunately, the finger method attempt must have bent or shifted something because the music cuts out halfway through CD tracks to this day.  I got another Duo after that but it's noisy and loads slow....I wish I was dead....

ANYWAY, be careful when you open things up: there's a little detachable plastic bridge surrounding the lens that needs to line up perfectly in about 19 different places to fit back into place.  Take a good hard look at it before you move it and after you replace it.  Make sure everything is flush before you screw the system back together.

I think it's safe to say that if it doesn't move semi-easily with your finger that you shouldn't push any harder. Usually you don't have to open it up. Also, be sure you're trying with the power on.

It didn't move easily for me and I did it with the power off too. I guess I shouldn't be giving the advise I did if it results in problems like vestcunt's. It didn't screw up my duo though, of course I have the super strong US duo. I also had a beer first!

I've had to 'fix' my Duo a few times with a gentle push, but now I avoid CDRs like the phookin' plague and don't have such problems any more.  Anyway, good luck getting it back on its feet romanoaj.

Yeah, don't do that. Thats caveman shit. You stand about a %50 chance or stripping the gear set out, and those aren't part of a replacement HOP3.

To everyone:  Thanks.  Opened it, moved the gears back.  The cinema for Fray is now rolling.  Before I even pressed one button, I wanted to thanks you guys for helping a brother out.

(P.S.  STAY AWAY FROM THOSE CDRs!!)

I would be interested in buying those Dou's also if nat haven't already picked it up.  Thanks.
