@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

Quote from: exodus on 05/28/2018, 05:57 PModd that you would have no comment about Guy - since he's clearly Guy Kazama from Last Alert! That warrants at least a small comment :P
Yea I know! But that's a test for the true fans. To see who notices that! Thanks

Hey thanks! Actually I was around before 06 but it was one of those forgot password things. I can't remember exactly when I found the site though.  Actually I don't have any turbo or pce games anymore so I don't come around much because I'll be tempted to spend all my money on them again!

Hey there!

Last year I translated the soundtrack to CD Denjin/ Super Air Zonk and everyone here told me to do Dekoboko! Well, it took a long time but I kept my promise to deliver. I also found out the game is looooooooooooooosely connected to the Valis series.

Here you go! Enjoy! Spread the word! And, OBEY!
ps sorry I don't really know how to embed it TT

Thanks everyone who liked it! Im glad you enjoyed it. There are actually dozens of episodes of the show online, if you search in Japanese. some of them well.. most of them have a lot of half naked women in them ahah.

also great to read other people memories of the game, as I always wondered who else out there had a TG 16 back then and actually played it!
#5
One game I've always loved was JJ and Jeff. It was literally the first TG16 I had, save for Keith Courage. Of course it's known the Japanese version Kato and Ken had some differences. Well I went out of my way, found the Kato and Ken tv show, watched it and made comparisons of the show and game and the regional differences. The games birthday is November 30! So if you ever played it, you'll surely want to see it.
#6
2006! exactly? who even created the term retro gamer? I've always preferred the term vintage anyway.
#7
I got the date from TURBOFORCE #2. It's mentioned on Wikipedia and other places too

TurboForcePg4.jpg
OG: archives.tg-16.com/TURBOFORCE/TF-02-04.jpg

It's mentioned on that page

Hey all. Don't forget to take some time and play your Duo or Super System card (if you have one) because Oct 10 this year is the 25th birthday of the TurboDuo! even if not, just think how long its been and how great it is to have this community and other sites keeping the Turbo family going all these years!

I'm going to translate dekoboko and have it ready sometime in October. Yea it's a long wait but that's life when you aren't paid to do YouTube. It's a funny song and the ending song makes me laugh because it's so bubble era. Just a perfect time slip
#10
As you might notice, I really come from the WD school of translation. I hate straight translations that are stilted and don't sound natural but are the dead literal meaning. I really tried to match the syllables to give something in English that fits and can be sung best as possible. Also the lyrics are in the CD Denjin manual, so there's no mistakes on the JP side.

Sure! I was unaware of some of these but sure! I'll add it to the list. I'm actually planning something very big , non musical for the 30th birthday of PC engine but if these songs translate easily, I'll do em!

Now if I didn't have that pesky job in the way!
#11
cheers! didn't think about embedding! #-o

Hey all.

I've been to this site off and on for a very long time. I don't come back as often as I used to since, I've sold off all of my games, but still come back to read news now and then. I actually don't read the forums too much because I'll get the itch to get back into it and spend all my money, when it's probably not the best idea haha

Anyway I've made a video where I translated the volcanos to the open, game over and ending to CD Denjin, aka Super Air Zonk. It was fun to do and I hope you enjoy it. If response is good then I'll make more Turbo related ones.

It is complete in box, instruction and AR cards and 4GB SD card too. like new with no scratches or marks outside nor on the screen

also included is a white 3DS LL charge cradle. this item was never for sale in japan and was given only as a premium to club nintendo members in japan so it is rather rare and hard to find even here in japan .

To think before eBay , the value was haut based on it's playability versus a friends other game for trade value! Or old ads like video game network or game dude that sold every game available back then. I think eBay has really wrecked everything , yea you can have access to almost any game but at a super high price and you have to compete with people who may just resell it or let it sit on a shelf.

Back in the day only one kid in the whole town ( not just neighborhood) had mega man 1. And it's trade value was crazy! You had to have 5 games if interest to him or no deal. I had the first copy of super Mario 2 in the neighborhood and it would regularly get traded with the kid who had the only copy of Zelda 2 ! But almost any other game would never cut it but lesser games would trade off easily.

I was the only one with a turbo and so there was no way to judge a value on it

Who says wii1 vc is getting shut off in May? I've yet to see that news please link if you can. I'm shocked!
#17
im going to say no. with ebay, the prices will be set like that forever, if a price ever dropped, there would always be 10 people ready to snap it up which would then just raise the price back up. sure there are idiots who list stuff for 99 million $ but if something fell from like 100 to 50, i would be on that, and you knwo you would be too!

also with atari and almost everything else  compared to turbo the number of carts out there are 100 X more! so unless your out for every game, you can surely get something fun for not a lot.

i think if anything virtual console just increased interest in older games instead of lowering value.

over on atari age once, like yeaaaaars ago there was some post about research of how long a game could be playable. i recall seeing that in an air tight space, they could last 300-400 years presumably! its all about if the pins can still make a connection.

the next question is what happens when tvs no longer have AV inputs? meaning all pre hdmi game systems will eventually have no tv to play them on, uh oh!
#18
One point of hope is that when konami bought Hudson, none of the games got delisted!
I'm praying on the 2 nd Tuesday each month ( usual pce stop day) that they will start putting out more games,

Now hmm. If only they can play on ps4!
#19
Not since July 2011 has there been a release. But now konami, the new owners, have released games on wii u and 3ds vc! At least in japan , I can't see why they wouldn't continue on psn!
#20
At first I thought they were making pce clones! Anyone go over to retro mags? Lots of old stuff to find!!
#21
Sounds like it too?  I found other cool sites but let's not burn thru them all at once
#22
oh....!
#23
the second and the last (if click on a subpage) are giving me unreadable text. no not japanese haha  but stuff that looks like NƒŠƒXƒ}ƒXƒp[ƒeƒB[,ŁACD-ROM2 SYSTEM,ɐG,ê,éB
uFighting Streetv,Å'ΐí,µA,¸,½,Ú,ë,É,³,ê,éB
uYs1_2v,̃I[ƒvƒjƒ"ƒO,́AŽž'ã,̕ω»

that!
#24
I don't know exactly when, but games in japan used to NOT be shrink wrapped and used stores would wrap used games! Probably to guarantee everything doesn't fall out! But now in the disc copy ale era they are sealed now.
#25
Yep it's a great gif!
#26
I should also point out that the name of the site tomorege is supped to mean formidable opponent of retro games which is explained on the front page and doesn't look like it been updated In a few years oh wells
#27
Just thought I'd post something I found white surfing . It's in Japanese but it doesn't say anything a good pce fan doesn't already know, but it's cool to see something different from time to time.

wayback.tomorege.com/contents2_katei_pce_abake_syodai.html

In the page there's links to core grafx 1 and 2 and the main page has other game stuff

If yad like I could translate it or other pages I come across. I just thought I'd share if noones ever found it

Please enter my name too. Can't imagine walking around with that super bright neon orange. So early 90s wooo would go great with a GT!
#29
Thanks! Wish they had more detail about it but it gets the job done
#30
i picked up a pce cd rom interface unit for pretty cheap. cheap because it was untested. untested because it had no ac adapter!

can anyone point me to a modern equivalent I can buy online? perhaps one with a slimmed down power block !

once i can get power to it, i can see if it works!
#31
I guess it's where ya go. Right now though , maybe a little bit before was prime ps2 buying time.
#32
I got my new (to me) PC engine in the mail! It's the white rf model.  Still pretty white but it also came with box and inserts including a warranty card signed on dec 21, 1988! Wow!!

If only I can figure how to open up and clean the thing
#33
I've never seen xavix before sorry!
#34
Living in Japanese countryside is heaven on earth , I say! But yes there are very few jobs that you can do if you're not a native born fluent citizen and I was very lucky, but did have to leave unfortunately.  Perhaps owner of a B and B might be the easiest possible job to do. There's always English teacher too but there's no advancement pay raise or sectors in that whatsoever
#35
Oh ya I should say that after leaving there my game collection went to zero. The choice was abandon it or sell it as space to keep it was not possible for months after and I didn't think I'd have space again at all
#36
Actually I've lived both urban and rural  . I spent several years living in Fukushima until may 2011 when I was forced out due to the situation with the earthquake and now live in Tokyo. Country life is way better I say. Internet access has never been slow, it's the same everywhere. Fast! Game shops in the country are great!! No damn tourists coming in picking it over and games are cheap! I even saw things like boxed famicom av for 2500¥ and stacks of games too! City shops do have more selection but also higher prices and I don't buy from touristy places , might get your fingers bit!

I don't know about the frog children
#37
Well I can talk about waiting in line for the wii launch but I got to work right now!
#38
Hey all

I used to post on here long ago. To pay off all kinds of debts and also lack of time I had gotten out of pce and tg 16 gaming. But now after some years things have turned around and I said oh what they hey, let's start all over!

So I bought a white pce, will be restoring it up and getting some games soon!

Also, anyone else on this board living in japan? I'm a long time resident and thought there might some fans near by. If not, I could provide some good japan game stories

Thanks
#39
92. could only get 1 system per year and so when it hit $50 it was easy to convince mom!
#40
the local supermarket/drugstore/video store rented TG16 games! There was a toy store about 4 shops down from there that carried tg16 and so the rental store carried everything! i played most tg16 cards, and every tgcd game released up to about fall of 92 when the toy store shut down. they kept the games there till about 96 but never had a sell off so the owner must have kept them! after that there was no more tg16 available in the area, and had to go to a bigger mall way on the other side of the city.

side note i always HATED the stores that only sold "top 20 NES games" only!! it got a little better but still frustrating when it became nes/genesis only. now i just buy online so i can get what i want wooo
#41
sorry but i was away from  a computer for a while and was traveling. now i am ready to sell if someone is interested. i have pictures but whatever i try to do it says file size is too big for posting so ill just email it to you if you ask

included in all is the box, arcade card, modded system, you can see the switch close up. it has the 6 button pad and a 3 button pad as well as a duo tap there is also the ac plug and av cable and some games but they arent originals so i wont included them in the value of the sale.

looking for 300 shipped, but if shipping is REALLY high, like +40 ill have to let ya know about that

any takers?

i also have a dreamcast that will go on ebay, maybe
#42
When i go back to my parents house for a visit in about 4 weeks, i have been told i have to remove all of my quote-end-quote junk from there. this includes my boxed  6 button pc engine duo system . i also had a region free switch added to it so it can play just about anything. so if anybody would like to but it  let me know now so i can get ready to send it as soon as i get there.

there are also some games, but i think they were all copied so i wont  include that into negotiation the price since its not the original, but if some originals are found i can let you know.

i think theres an arcade card too but i cant confirm it until i go back

as for why its there, i just didnt have enough space when i left or enough time to sell it to a loving home, i would never mistreat a PCE or abandon it!  [-X
#43
it doesnt matter as an USB hard drive would not even work with the wii, because its nintendo's way or the highway, unlike M$ or SORNY who allow alot of customization and exprimentation  with their products, compared to nintendo.
#44
its a TE! they even go to great lengths to explain it wont work with PCE soft
#45
i saw a boxed, probably mint (it was under glass) turbo express at a store here in  japan for only 12900 yen! didnt buy it, but it will likely sit there a while.

thats about $125!   good find? maybe someone wants it?

in the near future when the 16GB memory stick drops down to a rasonably affordable price, it will be sweet to load the sumba up with TG games and others and have them all in one place and of course play them at work!!
#47
i forget that nintendo made all of its money from 96-06 off of the gameboy line and pokemon.  but the first 6 months it seemed like the wii was going to be everything promised and then some.

now its kind of lost its momentum with tons of bad ports, VC dry up and nintendo's usual delays and stubbornness
#48
both.

STILL waiting on Ys and some others.  the quality of the games they put out anymore SUCKS. in 2008 so far, the only game that had me interested was startropics. and they keep announcing more systems to support, which is good, but then they have slowed down the once promised 3 games a week to 2 or 1 and they  just arent very good games to me.

now when wii-ware comes into play will they cut down VC even more?

combined with nintendo's trademark stubbornness coming roaring back, in forms such as  un-modable control schemes, locking the games on the console and no hard drive ever, it just makes me give up

the emulation itself is fine . i just stupidly held out a hope that aftr 10 years in last place nintendo had changed , and it turns out i was wrong
#49
i have had it with the wii VC

what was once great has fallen to crap!

with releases brought down to only ONE a week and of poor quality or already existing on PS2 comps, it just makes me mad

thinking of selling it off......

the PSP CFW is the best and makes PSP even more of an amazing machine, i highly recommend getting it and trying it out.

even better than playing NEW roms all day is that you can put your own PS1 games on there and take it with you
