No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

I remember when I was in school as a kid and there was one kid who had the Jaguar and Jaguar CD later, and he was bragging how awesome his "Jaguar" was and that it was 64 bit, which at the time was supposed to be so much better the Genesis and SNES the other kids had.

I wonder where that douche bag is now, its 2009 and Jaguar proved to be a steaming pile of excrement.  The Turbo however lives on and fucks everything and everyone to this day.

Ok, I was watching youtube and looking at old 80's commercials and things, and I had the idea to see if you guys could also dig up ridiculously cheesy, weird or nostalgic 80's videos or pictures.  Does not necessarily have to be be gaming related, just any kind of nostalgia bomb will do.

This is the most ridiculous one I have found so far, the coked out 80's new wave band "Blue Zoo" man, I don't think you guys can top this, but I would love to see you try:
I mean Jesus Christ, look at this guys clothes!  I mean one could say "He just looks fruity" but it's not that simple, I mean you have to be doing some serious nose candy to think dressing like this looks cool, and furthermore everybody else must be as well to not notice.

I bought mine direct from working designs, but I never could get into the game, the graphics and feel of the game were not so impressive to me, but I did like the music and the character designs.
#13
I don't think that is the issue with mine, because it does read CDRs, but certain games have problems, either sound or lockups, so that leads me to believe necromancers opinion regarding the shitty rips, this is most likely the case, can anyone recommend a Japanese P2P program were I can track down the good rips? It's called Winny right?
#14
Ok, I tried that TOC fixer, it did not work.  It was identifying the problem games as having bad files, but when it fixed them and I burned it, the 2 games I tried made it to the title screen, with sound working ok, and then froze up after that.

This whole PCE CD backup business is really jacked up sometimes, I just hope I can find a way to get Xak III to work because that one I cant buy.

Thanks for your help necromancer, it is people like you who keep the radical 16 bit graphics flowing in the 2009.
#15
Thanks for the help, I am going to mess around with the TOC fixer and see if that makes any changes, as for Xak III, would you know why it works fine on magic engine but not as a burned CD on the Duo?
#16
Mostly, its sound issues with the games, no music where there should be music, in Xak it has this and the freezing problem, whereas others don't freeze they just have sound and or music issues.

Have any of you been able to get the translation hack of Xak III working on a real Duo?

I checked a few like you said NecroPhile and they seem to match up ok.  So do you have any other ideas what it could be?
#17
Ok, guys, I know this is a bit scandalous to bring up maybe.  But I have this weird issue with burning CDR backups and playing them on my Duo.

Most games, it works just fine, I use alcohol 120% and burn at around 10x speed and I play it on my Duo.

But some games, have weird issues, even though I burn them exactly the same way as the working ones, not only that, I test them on Daemon Tools and mount the image that way, trying them out on Magic Engine and they work fine, but on the Duo they dont.

The particular one I am having trouble with, that I really want to play on my duo and not Magic Engine, is the translated hack of Xak III, this one I burned on a disc, and it starts up fine but freezes at the first game screen after startup, I pop the same disk in magic engine and it does not freeze in that spot, and seems to work fine.

Im just wondering if any of you have had similar luck with these things, what gets me is that its really hit or miss, some games work fine, some work only in magic engine mounted in daemon tools, some the cdr works in Magic Engine but not on the Duo.  I really just wonder why the inconsistency and if there is anything I can do to fix these issues, particularly with Xak III because its really awesome to play the English Translation on the Duo.

I don't know of this ailment that you speak of but I broke my carpel bone in my hand twice punching mother fuckers, one time I was drunk.  Anyway, the doctor told me to learn to practice "Conflict Resolution".  And I told him "Yeah I did practice that, there was a conflict and I resolved it by punching him in the head."

Sega was like a boxer that started out in the small time, and then clawed its way to the top, had all the talent in the world, and them went the distance with the champ for the belt, and after that it went to his head and he started getting into drinking and hookers and ruined himself, and now he is that guy in the back alley who you see all the time but know he will never be a contender again.
#22
I had the X-Arcade Solo and I was not happy with it for fighting games, it had a good build but the sticks responsiveness was not good and sometimes it would stick in the left position and get me killed every now and then, I bought mine on Ebay, and I would not buy one again.  I don't know what a good alternative would be other than maybe swapping the parts out like somebody else said.

Curtis High School, Staten Island NY.  But I ditched alot and smoked blunts, and drank disgusting malt liquor that I could never imagine drinking now.

Those were some rough times...

Basically, if you guys are familiar with all those 80's anti drug propaganda and D.A.R.E. Officers, I did not listen to them, except about Crack.  Remember kids, Crack is no good, it will make you steal from your homeboys and you cant play double dragon if your on Crack.

I went and hunted down one of the last CRT's in production here, because I got so sick of my old school consoles looking like I was playing them on an Emulator.  I really worry about the future when we cant find CRT anymore.

Another case of Long Island Douchebags.  Take it from me, or ask anyone from the NY area.

I think the N64 Case itself looked nice, it had a sleek look at 4 controller ports, too bad the controllers sucked ass.

Turbo Grafx a cool name for its time, but Xbox was a retarded name, When I first saw it in a magazine I remember thinking it was some kind of joke the magazine was playing.

Yeah, that is exactly how I looked at it,  People pay alot more for new systems today, and they suck compared to Super Famicom.  It is about exactly the same price as if I bought it new in the early 90's.

Yeah, you guys are probably going to think I lost it, but I went and ordered a little Christmas present to myself this year:

A BRAND NEW Super Famicom system.. Price was a little steep at 240 bucks shipping included, but my old SNES broke and I decided to go for the gusto and buy an SFC instead of SNES and get something Minty Fresh for once.  I will give you more pics when it arrives.

Xbox it is not only ugly, but its name is stupid and ugly aswell.

I used to smoke cigars every now and then, I never considered phillies or swishers cigars, more like blunt rolling tools.

One cigar I can recommend to you Keranu that I remember used to be very good for the price, was Arturo Fuente.

I  have the 64mb one, it is pretty awesome and I have had no compatibility problems with it, but I havent tried it on my US TG16 yet,  I will have to break that out later.

that's a broken one, which i once took to my desk to measure the inner gear wheels (some of you may remember). but since it's much to value to throw away and also i do have no need for it at home, i just keep it there as an eye candy and daily pick-me-up. sometimes the one or other person ask my something about it
Tatsujin, there ought to be a law about being as hardcore as you.

Off-Topic / Re: Your Parents
10/16/2008, 04:41 PM
Hey Missa,

While I did not have the exact same situation as you, I can relate because I too have a very bad relationship with my parents, they had me very young and were emotionally abusive and crazy.  Giving me a very bad start in life that affects me to this day.  The only advice I can give is to learn from what they did wrong, and vow to try your best to have a healthy family one day, to break the cycle of disfunction that is the best thing you can do to get over it someday, and I am still working on that myself.  I plan when I have a family of my own one day to exclude my parents from my childrens lives because of all the things they did to me, and while that is very harsh, not something I would choose, in my case my parents never apologized once for anything they did to me.  Sometimes you have to be firm.

Be very cautious in who you pick as a partner to raise a family with, and take lessons from older people who have more stable and less whacked out family lives, in my case, my parents were too "Independent" for their own good, forsaking the traditional values that families should have.

Its not like I don't have the option of playing on a bigger TV.  Its just a cool way to make use of my white PC engine.  Don't hurt my TV's feelings by calling it a Midget, its a "Little TV'  its just like how if you go to Wal-Mart and you see those Retards at the front door, your not supposed to call them Retards, your supposed to call them "Special".

So now you know.

Man, I use nothing, I have no display right now, everything is in boxes, which sucks but my suggestion is to look for a nice wood cabinet to stack the games. CD Racks are ok but the right cabinet can look better.
#42
I must say you did a nice job of fixing the photo,  I forgot you were into camera stuff.

Don't worry Joe, The color is ok, it's just my camera didnt capture the screen right.
#44
I just have to do the best I can I suppose.  Im glad I finally received the TV because I had the vision of this setup for quite some time.
#45
I did not take any side pictures, but I can tell you the TV goes back about 7 inches.  Keep in mind it is a CRT so it has to have depth for the tube inside.  But this looks way better than LCD's for the old school games.
#46
Since I like to keep it as old school as possible, I wanted to set up something cool to play games on my nightstand  next to my bed, just to get a quick Turbo session in before I fall asleep.  So I came up with this:

IMG

I scored one of these kind of rare Sony 5 inch TV's. this is not an LCD, its a good old fashioned CRT in a small size with a built in AM/FM Radio.  I saw it and thought it would go perfect with a white PC Engine for my nightstand, so I wanted to share it with you guys and see what you think.  The picture on it is awesome although the camera did not capture that too well, I think you get the idea.
