10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Watched the pilot episode of Yellowstone.

Modern western type themed show. Kevin Costner as the patriarch of the Dutton clan. Very seldom do you see Costner involved in a TV series.
Liked what I saw thus far. Hopefully it doesn't take a turn and become the full-on Western version of Dynasty.

Hell or High Water (2016)

Old West meets the modern West. A soulful crime drama about desperate brothers pitted against the system.
Great writing, top performances. And superb cinematography to boot.

Just now caught up with the current season of Vikings.

All I can say is that lazy/bad writing permeates the whole thing. Park your brain at the door and come in just for the spectacle of the battles.

The Handmaids Tale.

Season 2 starts off even more darker in tone. The performances, especially by the lead (Elisabeth Moss) is top notch.

I had seen this a while back.
I believe the guy from RetroRGB has also talked about it.

I hadn't checked in years. But yeah, the same old sombre/funeral type music greets you when you get to the frontpage.

Quote from: Bloufo on 04/14/2018, 05:26 PMA couple months back I had picked up a bunch of HD-DVD's on the cheap, still sealed.
I only very recently had a chance to start going through all of them.

Had no idea that disc rot was even a thing with this format. 8 out of the 12 Warner Bros discs that I tried, ranged from having a sort of clouding effect on screen, to random disc read errors, to being unplayable. All the others -Universal, Paramount Pictures, Dreamworks, etc, played fine.
I bought a Superman BluRay, the original classic with Christopher Reeve, left it stored for a year till I decided to watch both with the Richard Donner Cut sequel (terrible BTW, original Cut is better), so I try the BluRay, it looks perfect, totally new but it's dead!!

Just as well, I'd like to buy the 4K version someday so no big deal. Apparently there were lots of bad BluRay batches and you could get replacements from some movie distributors directly for their screw ups. I tried, I got a DVD replacement... Heh. The customer service rep screwed that up too.
So it happens on Blu-ray's as well?
I mean I thought that was an issue that was done and dusted when the LaserDisc age came to an end. That and if you store them where there is no dampness or extreme temperatures, that they'll be just fine. Just goes to show you how out of the loop I am with that.

In my case, I haven't had a single DVD or Blu-ray disc go bad in that way. But as I said, Blu-ray's "rival" at the time-HD-DVD, and most especially their discs by Warner, as I have now found out, are affected by that.

"streaming" can include any means of that, right?

For the last month or so I've been using the Terrarium TV app for android to catch up on a few TV series.

Homeland, Billions, Ray Donovan and Better Call Saul.

Looking forward to the 2nd seasons of Westworld, and The Handmaid's Tale.

Going in, I knew very little wrt the MSX. I didn't know quite what I was expecting, but to be honest, for me, this was a little underwhelming.

I knew of these several years ago only because when I was collecting the Interactive CED titles, two of those ('Murder, Anyone?', and 'Many Roads To Murder' ) also appeared as LD games on the MSX.

That's a cutie pie right there.  :D

Not much of a purchase, just a DB9 to PSX controller adapter. Mainly got it for my Amiga CD32, and Commodore  64.

I tried it as well on a Master System. I tested it with a wireless PS2 controller and receiver. No issues with button mapping. It works fine. You can use the analog sticks as well.
Only thing was the DB9 end of the adapter wouldn't fit flush in the SMS controller port. So I had to use a controller extension cable as a workaround.

Apocalypto. (2006)

Gruesome stuff. Gibson is never content to show us just one or two decapitated heads bouncing down the steps of a temple when he can show us eight or nine.
The type of absolute fascination with gore that distracts from almost everything else the movie tried to do.

The best way to play FDS.
If you are on a CRT, get yourself the 3D System, boot up Falsion, and be amazed!
Never knew this existed, I just play the actual disks and eagerly await for them all to break.  It's a shame that it looks like when using a Twin you need to be the world's greatest engineer to hook it up.
Did you know you can play Fami Disk games via a SNES?  :P

Quote from: guest on 02/07/2018, 12:51 PMWe have Netflix which is what we mainly use.  Amazon which is more of a bonus since we mainly got it for the shipping, and CrunchyRoll, since my wife and I are weebs who watch a lot of anime.

Have debated HULU many a time, but can't pull the trigger.  The concept of paying for content but still having to watch ads as well rubs me the wrong way.

We had HBO Now during Game of Thrones, but cancelled it until WestWorld comes out again.
hulu has commercials???  lol
you just made my decision.
I think one can opt to take a sub that eliminates all ads. Pretty sure you do have that option. Not sure how much extra for that, though.

Can't access Hulu or Amazon over here without using a paid DNS service to bypass the geo restrictions.
Used to have a Netflix sub, but outside the US the content is quite lacking.
If you block us from accessing your particular service or neuter it as compared to other regions, then, in this day and age, there are other options.

So, currently using the Terrarium TV apk. That's one of the better ones out there.
All the movies and shows one could want.

Still trudging on with Sons Of Anarchy.
Almost at the end now. About four episodes left to go of the final season.

Ridiculous plotlines mar this series. The unintended humor keeps me watching.
