Not as extensive as some on here, but I am proud to say that the TurboGrafx itself is a one owner system. Had it since high school and that is the original box it came in.

I would like to show off Gate of Thunder, but since I only have it on Wii Virtual Console, I think the effect would be diminished.  I usually put in Raiden or Devil's Crush to show them first.

I remember a story about a guy who's house flooded or something, and his SNES was saved.  He always stored it in a plastic tote and when the water came in, the SNES in the tote just floated on top of the water.

I acquired my controller extension from them, as well as TV Sports Football and Time Cruise.  For some reason, I've lost my Time Cruise though.  No idea where it went and haven't seen it in years.

First I can remember that actually scrolled as the OP mentioned, was probably River Raid on the 2600.  After that, on the NES, Tiger-Heli.  And then they get muddled....

It wet my appetite for many other shooters on the system, which is the main reason that the system is my all time favorite console today.
The first shooter I got for my Turbo was Blazing Lazers. Fucking epic!
My first was Blazing Lazers, too.

But about Raiden.  I suggest getting/using a TurboStick if you can.  I do much better playing vertical shooters with a stick than with a d-pad.  Also, Raiden is one of the games that I'll put in my TG and just let it run the attract mode as I do housework or something.  I like it even if I'm not playing it.

I have Military Madness.  Back in the day, my best friend and I actually got into fights over this game playing two player.  Great game.

I have several of them floating through my head.  My first thought was R-Type, but that's not really one that is restricted to the TG.  I like the music on the Legendary Axe's second level and the music in Psychosis.  Those are the ones that stick out in my mind atm.

I don't remember the exact year, but it was when I was still in High School so it was probably about 90 or 91.  My parents got it for me for Christmas.  We lived in East Texas and they drove to Shreveport to find one.  We had a shop in the local mall, a McDuff's Electronics, that sold them, but I told my parents about a special deal package that came with a coupon for a free game.  They had to call around and then go to Louisiana to find a store that had the coupon package.  I ordered Blazing Lazers as my free game, and I also got The Legendary Axe that Christmas.  Anyway, I still have the same TurboGrafx and box to this day.

Later on, I added more games and accessories via shop closings, clearance deals, pawn shops, ebay, and TZDirect.

There was a Hastings store that rented TurboGrafx games in my area.  When they got out of the TG renting business I bought World Class Baseball and Psychosis from their old rental stock.

A more interesting place was a little "arcade" in the same shopping center.  It was a small place with a small game sales business up front with a register and a place to sit, but the back 2/3 of the store was an "arcade" of sorts.  All it was was about fifteen televisions with TurboGrafx-16's and Genesis' hooked to them.  You would buy time, like an hour or something, and then go back and play whatever games they had running.  I specifically remember playing Boxy Boy, China Warrior, Legendary Axe, and Ninja Spirit there.
