10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Quote from: Nec.Game.head on 12/22/2012, 12:59 AMDieing to get my hands on a copy of BomberMan 93! My chick Nec Gamer Girl has been nagging me like crazy lately about getting her that game. Any chance that may be possible to pull from the lot [-o<??
Sorry, nope. I have a likely buyer pending for the lot at the moment.

That's good news!

Go to Hit-Japan I guess? Yahoo Auctions would be your cheapest option most likely.

Or better yet, we'd have a revolution and declare ourselves a new nation!  :P
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of OBEY, and to the PC Engine for which it stands, one nude Nation under Wonder Momo, kamehameha, with no gouging and fair prices for all.

I concur that both Punkic and Tiger have excellent suggestions. Getting a US 3.0 card is just too expensive, and sticking to the regular TG-CD card is too restrictive. Either use a Chopsado on a 3.0 or Arcade Card, or region-mod the system.

I love Parodius games. I hate to say this... but Parodius Da! is better on the SFC as far as I can tell... (and even better on the Saturn).

Quote from: NinjaCrackerX on 12/15/2012, 10:59 PMStarted Cosmic Fantasy 2. Just curious if anyone here played it, I keep getting destroyed at what I guess is the first boss. Not sure if it's a grind heavy game or I'm too used to today's easy RPGs!
Just finished it, YOU MUST GRIND like crazy in the first bit.  After the first little section grinding isn't needed.  Also learning how to use the healing magic is essential in every boss battle, they do a ton of damage.  Use the money made grinding to always increase armor first.  I can't stress enough that you'll need to stick with it, as to really appreciate the game you need to get like 3/4 of the way through the game to understand what your doing now.
I tried grinding in the cave below the town a bit before triggering the village being overrun so I could heal/save etc.. When the village is overrun the boss cuts me down real quick (the regular enemies aren't so bad). It doesn't help either that the encounter rate is so high I have to fight a handful of battles in the village before I get to him! :p I'll keep at it though!! Thanks for the tips.
I feel bad now. I start by trolling you about your name, and it turns out you actually OBEY it seems! Please accept my apologies for earlier.

I don't like your racist username.  Please change it.
I'm sorry you find it racist. You're the first person to say so after I used it over many sites for the past 10+ years. When I first start using the internet my AOL name was SamuraiCookieZ (which was a dumb cartoon character I used to draw). After my parents got rid of AOL they eventually delete your AOL account linked e-mail/sn. So when I went for a new name for instant messenger I just went for basically the opposite of my original sn (NinjaCrackerX) and I've used it for everything ever since. Sorry for the long story I just wanted to give you and anyone else in the shadows who thinks it's racist the story.
I'm trolling a bit man, don't worry. I REALLY don't think anyone would legitly see it as being racist. Of course, giving your past name of SamuraiCookie, I now assume you look very much like this:

So, what about noobs with like 2 posts that just say "PMed" on these sorts of gouging sales threads? Flood their inbox with hell also?

I just felt like adding to this trainwreck, which started...
HERE:
QuoteDungeon Explorer II - $300 (Mainly looking for trades)
(after being found for a $1? Yeah... that's gone over here well, eh?)
and HERE:
QuoteStop bitching... Jesus if you want the fucking lot, then pay up. It's that simple. Who are you to quote prices on anything? I can value my stuff accordingly whether it be high or low.
Coming in with a few gouging prices in a fairly close community and then insulting one of the regulars after they call out the attitude leads directly to a sale thread trainwreck. Nice to see you did your research before starting off here with a sales thread.

Was Mothergunner in the wrong? Who cares. He's not the one coming in here without any references/knowing anyone and starting right away with a sales thread that is clearly re-selling for max profit. That's the way it works here.

Sure, I'll enter. :)

Quote from: MotherGunner on 12/07/2012, 05:34 PMLol for the NecroPhile post.  I owned the game for a while and ended up selling it to another forum member.
At least it was a relevant NecroPhile post. :D

I might give it some more time later this weekend. I actually am impressed with the grafx compared to other 16-bit wrestling games. I thought they were done very well.

I just got this. It's actually really nice. Mike, since you have been playing this for at least seven or eight years I very realistically assume, I can only conclude that you must be an expert. Do you know much about the control system/fighting system used? Yes, I am aware that this is a 6-button game.
#24
Wow, did it ever jump up! Glad I got mine for under $40 last summer. Still, DO NOT pay $70 for this.

PCE controllers have also gone up in the last few months.
#26
I'm interested. :)
#27
$40 with hook-ups and controller would be decent. $40 loose... that had better be shipped right to your door with cookies and milk included. $40 plus shipping would be eBay prices I think. Not that I look at eBay for these things.

Just got it in today. Thanks!

Now why the hell did I want this again? Oh well, it's cool to show people.
#31
Is it really necessary to crap all over some guy's sales thread just because you think he didn't price something correctly?
#32
Heck yeah! Believe it or not, I don't believe I have EVER owned a copy of this. The only MGS game I've played through is the second one on PS2. I played some of MGS4 and then got bored and quit. It felt like I was watching a Final Fantasy game.

Quote...what is your favorite part of the 2-D shooters?
Blowing things up, and the slightly feeling of satisfaction I get when I do so.

Quote...and what game got you hooked?
River Raid. Then Life Force got me more hooked. Then G Darius got my even more hooked. Parodius made me feel funny inside. Then DoDonPachi put me over the edge.

Quotehow did you find out about that game?
River Raid- everyone had it back then. When I went to my friend's house about a block away when I was a kid to watch Saturday morning cartoons like Robotech, G.I. Joe, Pee-Wee's Playhouse and Gummi Bears, we used to play his Atari 2600 when the good shows weren't on. River Raid was my favourite game on the system.

Life Force- One of my other friends had this back in the day. I loved it. I probably rented it every couple of months for a two year period before I finally got a used copy.

R-Type- the local blowing alley had the arcade version of this. I don't think I ever made it past level 3 on the few quarters I had to spend as a 10 year old, but I had a lot of fun trying! (Saint Dragon was right next to it, and I used to like that one as well. I was pretty darn happy when I realized this was on the PC Engine)

G Darius- the first game I ripped, after Toukon Retsuden 2, when I got my PS1 modded back in about 1997 or 1998. It blew me away.

Parodius Da!- played this on an SNES emulator in 1997 or 1998 or around there. Pure heaven for me.

DoDonPachi- got a boot of it for my white Saturn back in 2000. Pure joy.

Quote from: Frank_fjs on 10/29/2012, 10:59 PMNo, your Duo-R PSU will not work with the SGX unfortunately. You'd need to buy a generic one with suitable specs:

9V DC 800mA
(+)----(o----(-)
Outer Diameter: 5.5mm | Inner Diameter: 3.1mm

Didn't even notice the AV cable on that Hit-Japan listing, it's definitely not official. My bet is that it's probably from a Mega Drive or something. It would still work but without stereo sound obviously. That said, you could always use your AV cable from your Duo-R.
Ahh okay thanks for the help, I would have just assumed it was the same. I guess for the time being I will try to remain patient and see if anything cheaper comes along :)
Just about every NEC console, other than the stock ones (TG/PCE/CG/CGII/etc. and Duo-R/Duo-RX), uses a different power supply from the others.

Oh, and Bardoly ? Your newbness is incredible. :P

*Except the internals. It's a stock PAL TG. I'm sure the adapter and Arcade Card Pro make up for it, though. ;) The machine is owned by Thierry Henry over at Racketboy.

but if all else fails, a region mod + arcade card pro would probably cost about $60, plus you could use the card on your duo if you wanted.
I agree with this. Another option is to get a cheap PC Engine 3.0 card and a Chopsado for it.
