Got my "OMG Raer Contest Edition" in the mail today for my 3rd place effort. Very cool! Thanks again for holding the contest Arkhan!

Off-Topic / Re: xbox live fee uped $10

This sucks, especially if you don't use the features that are supposedly justifying the cost increase. Hopefully they'll introduce some features that will improve the online experience. Still, $10 a year isn't that horrible. People can always go snatch up as many 1-year Live cards as they want right now for $50 and just use them later, assuming the codes would still be OK.

I already have both but I think that's a pretty cool thing that you're doing.
#4
The seller's name is Richard Ho? I guess the jokes just write themselves sometimes. He really IS a dick...
#5
I'm pacing myself for a marathon....Actually, I haven't had much luck finding a more affordable adapter or stick. I'll just tough it out with the pad and see how that treats me.

That's pretty cool, Mathius! I remember when a friend of mine bought the Ivan Stewart Super Off-Road arcade (yup, the one with 3 steering wheels) and had nowhere to keep it, so I had it in my apartment for a few years. That game was like catnip- the ladies really liked to play it. It was awesome being sandwiched in between them on the middle steering wheel... I miss that thing.

Although somebody grabbed the Turbo games I was thinking about getting from Kevin, I ended up buying some really nice complete N64 games from him. Kevin, I'm very sorry to hear about your mom.
#8
How new is that?

Quote from: ceti alpha on 08/25/2010, 03:00 PMHilarious that you could buy TG games in a furniture store. Aside from Valis II you had a pretty nice collection of CD games, even though it was small.
The cool thing is that now I have those 4 games again as well as all of the Hucards I had back when I was younger. It's like I never got rid of them.

Way to go, Turbostar! Ys was great. I still haven't finished Cosmic Fantasy 2 myself. It's been a decent game so far.
#11
I had 2 friends that also had the Turbografx. Games weren't a problem to find in Chicago, I even bought some from Polk Brothers (a furniture/appliance store). I bought the CD unit back in the day. I was a kid, I wasn't quite old enough to drive yet, so I didn't really have anything more important to spend money on. I only bought 4 CD games (Monster Lair, Final Zone 2, Valis 2 and Ys Book 1 & 2), so it ended up being a pricey add-on that I didn't use for many games. Still cool though.

Nice job Necro! I'ts going to be tough trying to top you and Jason on the scoreboard. What kind of controller are you using?
#13
I wasn't too thrilled with it when I first tried it, maybe I'll give it another chance since some of you guys seem to like it.
#14
Thanks for the info, Henry. That adapter is exactly what I need. Have you ordered stuff from Moeroshop before? By the way, I'm not familiar with the currency. How much is that in US dollars?
#15
Good job with the scores guys! The best I've been able to do so far is 23440. I might have better luck with the stick, does anyone know where I can get an adapter for the Duo controller port?
#16
Hi Tokei. Those were doubles, so my collection wasn't affected. The Turbo collection is still growing, I'll have 6 more games in the collection next week. It's tough trying to focus on one system, there are still so many good games to pick up for the Dreamcast, Master System, Nintendo 64, etc. I enjoy all of my consoles and obtaining the games is a hobby that will keep me occupied for many years. You probably have a ton of goodies waiting for you in SF, don't you?
#17
One of my biggest regrets is getting rid of my games over the years. I've always taken care of my games and they can sometimes be tough to find complete and pristine for a decent price. I started collecting games for older systems again just a few months ago. My G.I. Joe collection sacrificed itself for the gaming cause and I'm glad I'm picking up these older games again. Searching for deals can be difficult but rewarding, it's great to find games at good prices. I have yet to find anything good at Goodwill or Salvation Army, but I'll keep checking them out because you never know when you'll find a gem or two.

General Gaming / Re: JVC X'eye anybody?
08/07/2010, 08:00 PM
Thanks for the info, Dan. It would just be cheaper for me to get the Sega CD and 32X then. I would still need my Master System handy since my Genesis is a model 2. I liked the idea of using the AV cables and only one AC adapter, the back of my TV is already a big enough mess.

Hey Dan, I was toying around with the idea of picking up an X'Eye or CDX to save some room that my Genesis and Master System are taking up. Are the Power Base Converter and 32X compatible with both of those?

Those Bridgeview shows are probably ancient history by now. The only other upcoming show I could find info about is the Chicago Comic-Con this month from the 19th-22nd. There will most likely be gaming stuff there, but I've never gone so I don't know exactly how much.

Quote from: chany60126 on 08/05/2010, 11:42 AMGood prices can also be had at gaming conventions.
True. Are there any local (Chicago area) gaming conventions going on in the near future? I know they used to have one in Bridgeview once or twice a year.

Quote from: guest on 08/05/2010, 10:21 AMIf one does want the US titles, with patience the bulk of the library can be had cheap (less than $20 per title, especially when buying in bulk).
Very true. This is how I've managed to get most of my TG-16 games. The games I keep for my collection end up costing less on average and I have no problem trading/selling the extras. Trying to snag individual, more uncommon games for decent prices can still be tricky.
#23
This stuff is insane. I picked a really bad time to get back into TG-16. It's getting to the point where it's hard to find even the common games at reasonable prices. When exactly did this trend start?
#24
Thanks, Chany- I'll try! The game is simple, addictive fun. You need to pick it up soon and get in on this.
#27
Thanks for clearing that up, Arkhan. I tried it out and Predator mode is fun. Are digital camera pics OK? I got 3490 on my first go and I'll keep playing to see how many points I can rack up. When does the contest end?
#28
This may be a dumb question, but should I avoid playing either version of Insanity on my Duo or is one of them OK to do that with?
#29
Just beat Ys III. Now it's time to jump into Exile!
#30
Just got mine today. Props to Arkhan for a cool item that made it to me quickly and fully intact. I'm glad I read that gouging thread, not only to find out about this game but I was actually going to pick up some of the cheaper common games I didn't have yet from Vegas until I read about the situation. At least now you guys have a Roy that won't try to screw the community...
#31
I'm no expert on this, but I agree with Clash- I love my American Duo. Just in case the Duo eventually dies, I have a backup Turbografx-16 with a Turbo Booster Plus.
#32
Got it! I did some extra searching on the web and I found a video that is specific to the Turbo CD version. I guess it's a little different than the Genesis and Super NES versions. I had to jump on the second indented section of rock above the platforms like you said and jump just the right way out to the left platform.  Thanks for the help kid!
#33
No video, but I have some screenshots. The first image shows the lower right side of the area where the platforms are and the second image shows the lower left side where you can see the small platform above the mine floor on the far left.
#34
Not bad looking. Much more stylish than the American version.
#35
Hi guys. I've been stuck in the same spot in Ys III for a few days now. I'm back in the Tigre Mine after the mayor sends me back out this way. I'm traveling downward in the mine trying to reach the next boss. I reached an area where there are three wooden platforms on the right and a small wooden platform on the far upper left. I've been trying like crazy to jump over there but I just can't reach it. I saw a video that showed a large wooden platform on the left under the small platform that could be reached by jumping from the upper right, but this platform is nowhere to be found in my game. Is this a known glitch or is there something I neglected to do to make the platform appear?
#36
True, I forgot about Final Fight. There were quite a few of these types of games in the early 90s and many were pretty decent for what they were. I've been playing the crap of the Turbo CDs I have. Well, maybe not the Sherlock Holmes games... I'm working on Ys 3 currently. After that I think I'll tackle Exile and Cosmic Fantasy 2.
#37
Hey guys- I think the R-Type winner's name was Josh. The Turbo table was definitely the area with the most traffic. People tend to gravitate toward the cool stuff...
#38
Good times! It was cool meeting Chany, Turbostar and Dan, among others. I totally choked during the R-Type tournament, go figure- I can do all right at home... Bomberman '94 was a lot of fun. I'm new to the Bomberman games and although Bomberman and Bomberman '93 are cool as single player games, it's a blast with 4 other human players. Plus, I got the opportunity to play Magical Chase and some other games I hadn't played before. Good stuff.
#39
Well, as luck would have it, the opportunity presented itself and I was able to pick up a Turbo Duo. It's very clean and works just like it should. I really like the fact that I was able to play it before I bought it, plus picking it up meant that the Post Office wouldn't get a chance to destroy it in transit. I'm enjoying some old favorites and some games I never played before. Riot Zone has got to be the most blatant Streets of Rage copycat I've ever seen...but it's still fun! Thanks to all again for the advice. I'm stowing away my Turbografx in case this thing craps out. I still might pick up a Duo-R in the distant future.
#40
Not to worry, I'll stick to the $200 ballpark. I'm sure I'll eventually find one. I've got plenty of other games to keep occupied with in the meantime.
#41
Thanks for the welcomes and advice. It sounds like the Duo-R is the way to go and the price seems much more reasonable. Maybe I can find one at the VGS this weekend. If not, I'll try to track one down online from a reliable seller. No big hurry, I'd rather be patient and get a decent deal. I have a Turbografx, so there's no problem playing the Hucards right now. I just have a bunch of CD games also and I'm anxious to try those out. It's been years since I've played Ys or Monster Lair.
#42
Hi Chany. I'm itching to check this thing out, it sounds like it will be a good time. See you there!
#43
Hi everyone. I've been checking out the forums here for a few weeks and now I'm all set to post. The Turbografx-16 was one of my favorite systems back in the day. I recently got back into retro gaming and I picked up another Turbo. I've been building up the collection and I'll probably pick up most of the games. I bought a Turbo Duo, but that didn't work so I sent it back. I also bought a Turbo CD, but that didn't work either. I'm trying to find a Duo that works and won't cost a fortune so I can play my CD games. Is it just me, or are people basically out of their minds with some of the Turbo prices nowadays?
