Yeah I missed a lot of other stuff I'm still trying to catch up.  I do want to hear / read both sides of the story.  I'll pm you for your side of the info I do want to see this from all directions.

Quote from: NecroPhile on 10/26/2012, 05:57 PMIn truth my response does seem a bit much on the surface, but only if you ignore the other times D.K. has made the same argument in an inappropriate place.  I get it - he thinks bitching about eBay and overpricing is stupid and unproductive, but that doesn't mean he needs to keep telling us to essentially shut the fuck up.  I don't go into threads with uninteresting topics (to me) and tell everyone to stop wasting their time, but I'd expect to get told off if I did.
I've lasted very long in plenty of forums.  But continue making it your life mission to hurt my feelings.

Quote from: Drakon on 10/26/2012, 02:05 PMWhat?  I didn't remove anything out of fear, I removed the resistor so luma and chroma wouldn't get mixed together producing a sharper image.  What you're saying makes zero sense, you don't need to remove a surface mount resistor to solder a wire to one side of it.
To that I will just point back to your prior post, as that is what gave the indication that you may have some fear of soldering directly to the pins.

Quote from: Drakon on 09/13/2012, 06:19 PMNo need to solder straight to the ic pin.  I soldered to the surface mount resistor that the trace connects to you'll get a much bigger spot to solder with doing that.
I soldered to the surface mount resistor, I didn't say you have to desolder it, you can just solder to the one side of it which's still a lot bigger than the IC pin.  It's not a fear thing I'm just trying to make it easier for people.  The whole point of posting everyones guide in one easy to find thread is that people don't have to go looking everywhere for all info.  I'm not trying to be against everything you do I'm trying to work as a team.

Thanks for the great pictures eveilmaxwar!

You need to grow the f#ck up.  All you ever do is go around trying to hurt me feelings because you're mr. perfect.  You're just a non-stop cannon.  Instead of focusing on every little mistake you can dig up on other people when was the last time you tried to improve yourself in any way?  You derailed this thread with your cult following opinion, even if only a little, you did it, just please grow up and admit you made a mistake for once in your life.

Quote from: NecroPhile on 10/26/2012, 06:51 PMI fall in the group that has little interest in watching TAS videos and that the "tools" are most definitely cheats, but who cares?  I ain't gonna watch 'em, nor do I care if the creators think they're cool for making 'em.
but end at unreasonable prices can't possibly be gouge jobs.  It's called semantics.  Look it up some time.
Now if professor had made his point this way, I don't think people would have minded.  Thankyou NecroPhile for being respectful.  Anyone who takes professor's comments harshly professor will continue labelling as a "pussy" without any consideration.

Quote from: CGQuarterly on 10/26/2012, 08:37 PMI said it before and I'll say it again.  Why can't we have like 2 fucking weeks of peace around here without some new fucking trolls or Internet tough guys showing up here, fucking our shit up?  Sorry if shit didn't go we'll for you here DK, but the net result of your presence here is that it makes PCEFX a slightly shittier place for those of us here who are on board with the way shit works.

Chris

Edit: Why do you even give a shit if the prof (and several more of us) thinks that your videos are cheating?  Just like the fact that not everyone has to agree with him, not everyone has to agree with you.  Not anyone HAS to get the last word in all the time.  He thinks TASes are cheating, you don't, end of fucking story.  Instead of wasting time typing out 2000 word rebuttals to everything prof says, why don't you spend that time making videos for the people that enjoy your work?
I really like darkkobold and his posts and his opinions.  I agree he should have kept his opinions in a separate thread but if anything I think he makes this forum a better place.  Darkkobold may have opinions and ways of appreciating the pc engine that the old forum members don't approve of but I'm sure we can find a way to get along peacefully which is all I've ever wanted.

Also please correct me if I'm wrong on this but sometimes I feel professor does the same 200 word retorts, and nobody is giving him a hard time about it.

Anyway....I'm looking forward to the next tas video.  I'm hoping when it gets posted people don't say "why don't you spend your time doing something else?"
#6
It's not that which bothered me, it's the mentality of some of the older members and how they treat new(er) people.

Anyway more on topic.  Yes prices on ebay have significantly inflated since I started buying stuff there, I just figured that over time all this hardware was getting into the hands of people who really know what it's worth.  Back when I started using ebay it felt to me like everything there was undervalued because most of it was in the hands of people who have zero clue what the true value is.  I've seen some hilariously priced things on ebay that nobody would ever pay the asking price for so I do consider those to be gouging.

Quote from: bust3dstr8 on 10/26/2012, 04:32 PMOne thing this forum is great at, is having the shittiest search engine known to man.
It can't things from a few days ago let alone a few years ago.
If you type something like Sega in, it will return "Did you mean SexOrgy"

Ya....so I feel for anyone trying to dig up old info here :(

Quote from: Drakon on 10/26/2012, 03:38 PMI got majorly pounced on when I joined, for asking simple questions that had been answered years ago in hard to find threads.  I didn't feel welcome at all.  The only member here who actually made me feel welcome at first was herctnt.  Sorry if this's a bit off topic, please direct me to a better thread for this if there is one.
#7
I asked some sort of tech question and I remember a bunch of people being like "ZOMFG IT'S ALREADY BEEN ANSWERED USE THE SEARCH BUTTON YOU NUB".  Herctnt actually had to post in the same thread that I AM welcome here because the thread was really starting to look like nobody wanted me here.  I thanked herctnt over pm.  I was trying to give people here a chance and I do have skin but some members here can be relentless, and over-opinionated.  This's one of the most unwelcoming forums I've ever visited actually.  I do want to say that jibbajabba, nightwolve, and especially herctnt have been nothing but gentlemen (even if I don't agree with them about something).  I just want to be friends with people here but most of the time I feel like contradicting opinion will make it automatically labelled as "trolling" followed by lots of name-calling and low blows about my past or anything that can hurt my feelings, especially by professorprofessorson.

I used to think necromancer is a pretty good guy too but that thread darkkobold posted has me worried about me having an opinion that's different than necromancers.  I can understand people wanting darkkobold to make a new thread for his own opinion, but I do like and agree with the points he made in there.

*edit*

Also in another fighting street thread (I think it was either calling out xray or regalsin) someone was saying how we normally don't need mods because some of the older members take care of the problem users and scare them off.  Maybe some of these older members use their gang mentality to empower themselves and go too far, it's a fine line and sometimes I really do feel like it's getting crossed.

I mean good job for getting rid of xray and regalsin.  But that doesn't mean you're allowed to correct everyone with a different opinion just because you got rid of some serious troublemakers.

Quote from: Sadler on 10/26/2012, 04:00 PMDrakon, I just saw that you posted in the gouging thread that you were made to feel unwelcome when you joined. I don't want to drag that thread off topic anymore and it's definitely not worth making a fighting street thread about, but I'm curious. I just dug through the first 6 months of your posts and didn't see anything of the sort. In fact, I saw you thanking lots of people. What made you feel unwelcome?

I doubt the actual moderators and owners want the old timers constantly screaming at new members of the community, scaring them off.
We keep hearing this from whiny douchebags like you, but it's patently false.  The truth of the matter is that the vast majority of new users come in and feel welcome - it's just the mouthy clowns like you than come in and tell everyone to change that cry when nobody wants to be their friend or wants to sell them anything.

Tas is a part of gaming whether you like it or not.  But in your mind you're always right so anyone who disagrees with you should be the one to "stfu".  As for me "blowing up" in your tech thread I didn't, I was merely giving my 2 cents, but I know how much you hate anyone having a different opinion about things.

I'm not the one causing sh#t in here, I was trying to move it away from here, I don't see you putting in any effort.  Although I know that you have never and probably will never admit that you're ever wrong, about anything.  This thread isn't the "do you think tas videos are good?" thread, you're completely off topic and just plain badmouthing his work.  I don't consider myself above anyone, but I do find your posts to be ruining this thread.  I love how when someone posts against what professor believes he labels it as "trolling" but when professor posts against what someone else believes it's "posting with a purpose!"

I don't know what darkkobold did in other threads but just because he did it to other members doesn't make it okay for you to do it to him.

In the words of others in this thread, Professor, STFU, please.  Or even better, find something positive to post about instead of thread crapping.  Your opinion is annoying and could have been worded much more nicely, but you like to prove the internet wrong.  I don't see why you're so obsessed with proving your point anyway, did darkkobold hurt your feeling somehow and you feel it's your duty to be annoying in return?

Quote from: PCEngineHell on 10/26/2012, 11:23 AMThe irony being you yourself are a over-opinionated troll who has been banned from another forum and had to even be dealt with here by some members because your ego got too big.

Quote from: The Old Rover on 10/25/2012, 03:26 PMThe only thing that bothers me is that this thread exists in the first place. DK, as cool as I think your TAS videos are, your attitude in the relevant thread is deplorable. You both were, really... but just remember that VestCunt is a veteran here so he's going to have a sort of social seniority. Tribe mentality for sure, but that's just how forums roll (and this forum is noticeably more fair than most about this... any other place and all the wolves would be on you like a fresh corpse). It would have been better for you to just not said anything further. If what he said was foolish, it'd have been foolish on its own... and without a response from you, the last thing people would have seen is how foolish his comments were. Instead, you decided to engage, which shifts the foolishness back onto you. The fact that you even started this thread is evidence that you aren't done making a fool out of yourself, because now not only have you aired this dirty laundry in public for everyone to see, but you've done it in a place where there are no rules and people are going to tear you to pieces. You've pretty much fucked your reputation at this point with this post, and like all forums in cyberspace, reputation is everything here.

I think I'd rather have the cd audio be synths and computer generated instruments rather than live stuff.

After reading this mess of a thread:

https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=11955.0

I figured continuing the argument here is more appropriate.  Me personally I love tas videos, I don't know if they're art, they certainly ARE cheating, but they're still entertainment.  I don't think making tas videos is a waste of time at all.

Discuss, swear, troll, be angry, this's what fighting street is for!

Yeah, I made this thread because the title makes it obvious this's where the information can be found.  Then you made another thread about the same thing, which could have just been posted in here.  I wasn't trying to claim I invented the mod, I just wanted to make a thread with a very clear title that this's where information on the s-video mod can be found.

Quote from: EvilmaxWar on 10/25/2012, 12:58 AMThanks for this mod Drakon, and others who helped too of course! I just did this mod on my US TG16, worked flawlessly. The picture is AWESOME, it even fixes that horrible shimmering that is always there on composite when scrolling. Hyperdyne Sidearms looked like shit now it looks as sharp as on an emulator!

I figured the solder points with the schematic. I still need to hook up audio and fine tune the resistor value for optimal brightness.

Once im done ill make a diagram with a picture of the US motherboard, maybe it will help people wanting to mod their US TG16.
Svideo mod has already been covered here by a few members including myself. I posted one that showed what pins exactly to tap on the US TG-16 expansion port for composite and 5 volt, so another would not be needed in regards to that. https://www.pcengine-fx.com/forums/index.php?topic=13044.0

I love both skill runs and tas runs.  I can appreciate them both for what they are.  I don't mind if tas is cheating I still find it entertaining to watch.  I think it's fun to see how much you can mess with a game.

*reading more and editing this post the more I catch up on what was said*

Of course a tas is cheating, but it's still fun to watch.  I don't think the idea of a tas video is to "cheat to win".  The idea is to see the fastest inhumanly possible speed to beat a game would be.

I don't get why professor accuses darkobold of not enjoying improving on a real time speedrun.  I don't think he ever said he doesn't enjoy doing speedruns, just because you make tas videos doesn't mean you don't also enjoy doing the real thing.  That's quite a big assumption to make isn't it.  Telling someone to spend their timing making something other than tas videos in his tas video thread is kind of pointless is it not?  It's like....oh I don't know....a little bit of off topic trolling.  Yes it's kind of stupid to say that making a tas video isn't cheating, but it's also stupid bashing tas videos in a tas video thread for the sake of.  Nobody ever stated that making tas videos is a "huge accomplishment" they're just meant for entertainment.

I'm cool with continuing these arguments in fighting street as that's a great place to do so (and I'm glad we have it).  If you want to "get the last laugh" and retort to my comments before continuing in fighting street that's cool.  I just don't want to make this thread any more of a pointless mess than it is.

Here's a topic I started to move all the anger away (hopefully):

Quote from: SuperDeadite on 10/24/2012, 09:51 AMRadiant Silvergun is the ultimate overblown shooter imo.  Beyond graphics, style, and I suppose music, there is nothing good about that game.  People defend it to the death, but damn the gameplay is just horrid.
Please elaborate.
Ugh, do I really have to do this again?  Oh well,  in order to play RSG properly, you have to correctly chain the entire game.  If you don't chain, you will be far too weak, and the boss fights will go on for 20 mins or more each.  Meaning, to be good at RSG, you have to already be good at RSG.  IE, gameplay is shit.  Memorize every single enemy pattern or you are boned.  I can't imagine how anyone can find that enjoyable.

To make up for the garbage gameplay, the Saturn version allows you to save your levels and begin the game at the max powerup level.  So in other words, play long enough and you don't have to care anymore.  Not to mention it makes the first half of the game pointless.  No matter how you play it, it's broken.

I recently upped my prices yet again because I'm getting too busy still, and next thing I know someone messages me saying he's been saving up but wants my old price.  Like....what?

Well let's see...I joined this forum because I recently started getting into pc engine collecting.  I love the collecting, restoration, homebrew scene, and improvements on this classic piece of hardware.  I'm also discovering how great the library is.  I may not always agree with other members but I'm sure over time all wounds will heal since we all love the pc engine.

However if people like xray and regalsin were allowed to stay here I'd flat out be turned off from coming here.  I like how there's a fighting section of the forum, I think a little healthy fighting is fine because people will always have different opinions about things.  But when I see members here who clearly have no love or passion for the pc engine, I feel like this forum is stupid.  And when these people who have no care about the pc engine start causing trouble, it just gets really bad.

To sum things up...I'm with jibbajabba, and herctnt, and the others who're in agreeance.

I've only had one cd unit and it never had this issue.  But glad to know how to fix it if this ever happens!

I've done stuff like that in the past.  I accidentally bridged the green line in my supergun to something else so I basically lost the colour green.  My duo when I added s-video for some reason the luma line broke connection so the s-video image was going in and out of working.  A little resolder and all was good, it just happens like that sometimes.

When wiring up eproms to superfx carts sometimes I'd have a connection or two not working....so I made this:

You need patience for this sort of work.  But if you have enough patience it usually works out.

Batsugun special is the best.  I've played a batsugun special arcade board (unfinished beta version but it's playable).  I'm also big on certain cave shmups, ketsui, mushihimesama, espgaluda.

I also think gate of thunderforce is an amazing somewhat hacked game (I prefer the music over the original gate of thunder)

The first shmup I ever got into was the first raiden in the arcades.  Now I think the game is total garbage but back in 1990 it was such an awesome concept to me.  Some years later I played raptor on the pc and again I was totally sucked in, but now I think it's a terrible game.  My personal favourite shmup of all time is ketsui, I'm okay at ketsui but definitely far from the greatest ketsui player ever.  I discovered ketsui at a shmupmeet, some dude owned the board (years before it came out on xbox 360).  I played ketsui and instantly I was hooked on the game.  I like how ketsui requires a lot of memorization therefore the more you play it the better you get at it (very rewarding for time put in).

Anyone who's interested in ketsui here's a 1cc recording I made:
Other shmups I think rock are....

megadrive:
thunderforce 4
verytex
V-V / V-five

famicom:

crisis force
recca (even though I can't get anywhere in this game)

Just the mouse.  I love sequencing (or whatever it's called when you just click the notes with the mouse).  I'm not big on playing instruments, but I'm good enough at writing music.

Quote from: Drakon on 10/19/2012, 07:35 PMThanks.  The irony of it all is that my music isn't intended for games, just listening.  As for the sound being "soft" it's just the software I'm using.  I'm terrible at coming up with great instruments and effects so I just use generic packs and usually compose with the same instrument set.
Oh man yessss, I kow what you're talking about. I've tried to make a few songs in a program called Reason (a friend totally rocks that thing out like it's nobody's business) and tweaking instruments/creating new ones is haaaaarrrrd. Do you have a midi-keyboard or similar input device or are you rolling with the good ol' mouse?

Uhm...wow.  I always thoroughly test my work and upload a video of everything working before I mail it out.  Of course if there's any faults I offer to fix it for free if the person is willing to pay to mail it back and forth.  I respond within 24 hours to every message, there's really no excuse for what she did.

Also I can personally vouch for keith courage he's great.  Thesteve looks awesome too.

Well my first rpg was ff4 which I played when I was 11.  I got to the last dungeon then had to return it to my friend.  I dunno if this's a dumbed down one or not.

FF7 has....fmvs.....annoying playstation polygons.......a story that was as exciting as a decent movie, and a theme with too much zazz.

What I was talking about, is how Chrono Trigger and FFVII are noob friendly, streamlined and have nothing to use your skills against, compared to previous Square games such as those you listed. One of the negative influences FFVII had on future games is the ridiculous unskippable camera shots and in-battle cinematics. A regular fight can have a full minute of time wasted on non-gameplay.

As for your picture it's looking great now that it's coloured in.

Cool. I Liked "Light" and "Cross" the most, would fit quite well in a driving game perhaps (or maybe shmup?). I tried the Forza Horizon demo yesterday and I'd rather have some of those songs in there instead
Nice "soft" sound which isn't trying to kill my speakers or sub.

Hi person I've never met.

Secret of mana is broken in a really fun way.  Just run around casting attack spells and level them up.  Also your characters will level up faster that way since you kill enemies quickly.  Only thing that sucks about secret of mana is that stupid final boss.  A: It took me forever to beat that boss, B: A giant flammie is lame.

Illusion of gaia I could never clear.  I made it pretty far in that game on a rent when it was new but now I just get bored and play some classic square snes / famicom stuff instead.

I love the snes rpgs.  I also love the snes action games.  And starfox, which is like an action game (doesn't feel like a shmup).  And....stunt race fx!  To me the snes is the ultimate rpg machine.

Okay lesse my favourite rpgs are (in no order)

ff3 (famicom)
earthbound zero (famicom)
earthbound (snes)
ff4 snes
ff6 snes
secret of mana snes
(zelda link to the past I don't think counts)
chrono trigger snes

So if these games are all "dumbed down" then I guess I love the dumbed down ones?  I love flashy spells, just as long as they don't take forever.

Quote from: Joe Redifer on 10/17/2012, 11:49 PMNever really cared for Secret of Mana.  It didn't control as well as, say, Zelda, Neutopia, Golevllius, Golden Axe Warrior, Crusader of Centy etc.

Yes, sf4 does suck.
