It also has the option to break out the saves into their own individual files instead of one large file with all the saves in it like the internal backup.
Wow, that alone is pretty nice.  If you put a Tennokoe in there I'm assuming it'll let you backup the whole thing and then pick or choose saves to backup?
I want to say they said if you use a Tennokoe you have to use the older full file backup to be able to transfer, good for getting to your old saves. Once you have saves in individual files you can probably just pull them off the SDcard where they are stored and back them up anywhere you want (and share I am hoping) which would be better for backup purposed i think.

Edit:

This is what they said about Tennokoe

"If you don't have the per game saves selected, the save data will be read and written to a file named backup.bup, so you have all the saves in a block, as if you had a normal super cdrom/IFU. Just insert your ten no koe card and transfer the saves to the cd backup ram."

Quote from: VmprHntrD on 12/31/2017, 12:40 PMI just snapped up a Core Grafx from Japan to get back into this.  I'm strongly considering this thing given I just want to have some fun and not go broke at the same time.

20 years ago I bought a Duo but it has been gone due to loss for over a dozen years now, and I really enjoyed the HuCards but some CDs were just fantastic so this really caught my eye.

One thing that I've noticed it appears they don't accept paypal which is a problem unless I'm missing something?
They probably don't take paypal because of issues with freezing accounts. Plenty of stories of accounts being frozen when they have lots of activity, I think Darksoft even had the issue with one of his releases.

My Core Grafx II comes today, this is going to replace my Turbo Duo that I have repaired 3x so far for bad caps and traces haha. I think the first thing I am going to play is Lords and Gates of Thunder with the volume adjustment on the background music.

Quote from: NightWolve on 08/19/2016, 01:51 AMWow, you guys really have gone at it! Where did you place access to the ED to load/eject the microSD card or does that require opening it if you need to load a game not already preloaded ?
Right now, it would have to be open up to load and eject the microSD.  I may try something so it doesn't.
I have a cps2 multi board by darksoft, I had the same issue and was able to use a cable extender from the SD card slot to the outside of case.  It's just a ribbon cable with a dummy SD card on the end and a female slot on the other,  worked really well.

Picked one up,  thanks!

I had 2 different sound issues after my recap,  both were due to bad lines, via etc going to the ground pin on 2 different 4558 op amps.  Running a new ground on both solved it.

Quote from: grendelrt on 01/20/2016, 01:46 PMSo not to stir the pot,  but on the Dracula X discs,  Tobias did give some out for free on his website disc only when he did the original release.  So when one pops on eBay it might not necessarily be from here.  Unless there is a difference between the discs or another way to identify discs from here?
You are correct.
Ok just checking,  not saying it isn't shitty to sell those discs as well but don't want to see someone get lynched for something they didn't do haha.

Wow this is nuts,  I am surprised you were able to get everything working with one half the motherboard.  Super props are due.

Hahaha, yes boss!

We're getting really, really close to the next major milestone in Xanadu ... then I'll take a short break and write the test for the TED1.

Just as an FYI ... I really don't expect it to tell us anything incredibly significant.
Cool thanks for the update!

Any update on the V1 question? I load super system card 3 on my duo using the v1 to prevent pulling it out and in all the time.

That was my plan over this last Thanksgiving week, didnt get to turn on a console for 1 minute. Stupid adult responsibilities haha.

Actually depending on which version of magician Lord you have you can continue directly where you die, making the game easier to pass.  Two versions of the game are out there, I have the version where you spawn directly where you die.

Always wanted to finish that game but man was that a test of my patience.  The last part of the game had random encounters every few steps.  The plus side was I didn't really need to grind to finish the game.  Now on to the next game which I am not sure what it is just yet.
I am playing this now and I am not sure if I am going to be able to do it.  The amount of random battles is ridiculous, it really hamper exploration when you feel you get punished for making a wrong turn.
Early on in the game is the worse because you tend to only have one character.  So you hit once and then wait for each enemy to hit.  The loading is kind of slow but overall I enjoyed it.  At the end of the game with 4 character the battles get a lot easier.
Yeah I have been using the turbo switch to get through battles right now lol

None of my friends had a turbo growing up.  One of my friends did rent one and bloody wolf from a movie rental store.  He told me how awesome bloody wolf was and I tried to rent it but none of the stores near us rented turbo games.  Sucked so bad haha.

You could send an email to jamma nation X for a cmvs, he custom makes them based on what options you need.

Very cool of everyone involved.  Sent paypal for the first batch plus some donation.  I have never played mm3 or shadowgate so very looking forward to it.

I had a TG16 then the next Xmas got a CD add on. Got the super system card at release. My brother at the time worked at NEC in Texas, so my parents bought me the TG16 based on him working there. He would send me games every once in a while which was awesome. My favorite on he sent was Devil's Crush. Made the super huge mistake of selling everything in HS to get a Saturn. I bought a Duo though in college and have been slowly getting the games I really enjoyed back. My fondest gaming memories are playing my TG16+CD growing up. I didnt get SNES until the end of its generation. My first new system at release after TG16 was the PSX.

Wow this is totally awesome. Great of you guys to put all this effort in as well!

I tried out Mr Heli for the first time. Pretty cool little title, second boss smushed me a couple times though :(

Cool no cutting up the case!

I think it's ngdev best game.  The graphics,  music, etc are all top notch.  I like it more than some turrican games.

Quote from: ddoubledee on 04/27/2015, 09:37 PMYes. Ys III on the TurboCD is great, too. These versions of the games will always be the definitive versions of Ys for me.
Ditto. No contest for me.

I played an import copy of Dungeon Explorer II for a while today. And then I played Air Zonk and Bonks Revenge. I got to the last stage on both and then died and didn't finish either lol.

SUCCESS! The via near the IC521 was bad! Wooo, finally ahha. Voltages at 521 went back to normal with a quick patch wire to ground.

Sound is good, and since the recap I think my video quality went up a little bit. Another duo is still alive, hanks for all the help! =)

That is great then,  I luckily haven't had much trouble with Japan sellers so far,  the shipping would worry me if I did though.  Sucks they aren't taking car of you,  I will avoid them in the future.

I had a guy send me a Sega CD, Genesis,  2 controllers and 3 games in a box 3x the size needed with no packing material.  Suffice to say shit was broke.  He refused all help and eBay made him refund, but he refused to pay shipping.  EBay actually paid for the shipping back to him which I thought was good for me but sucked that he should have had to pay for it.

I resoldered the caps near IC107  ( thanks Keith!) and the voltage did drop a tiny bit, it went from
IC 107 Beside cd rom area
1- 9.36
7- 9.9
8- 9.9

to

IC 107 Beside cd rom area
1- 9.5
5 - 5
6 - 5
7- 7.5
8- 10

I tried tracing the path from the legs on the bottom of the board, i moved that chip that was blocking but didnt want to pull it up too much. I lost the traces though.
Pin 6 on IC 107 4558 - Bottom of board R134 to R140, then I couldnt find where it went next. '
Pin 7 on IC 107 4558 - Bottom of board R145 to R144 to solder joint that splits to R142 and R143.

Took some pics if it helps

Quote from: CPTBadAss on 05/08/2015, 08:35 AMI only got to play Gates of Thunder for a few minutes at MGC but I knew I loved that soundtrack for a reason. Great comparisons vacantplanets! I need to get a cd attachment and that game  now!
Still two of my favorite soundtracks like 20 years later.  What I wouldn't give for a third game.
#34
Did  you happen to know what feeds pin 5 an 6 on that ic? There is a chip in the way on the bottom of the board that blocks the view,  trying to avoid bending it.
#35
Head explodes.  Lol.  If they are both 5v why would it raise to 10v?

Quote from: CPTBadAss on 05/07/2015, 09:04 AMHas a company sold off their IP like we're suggesting before? Is it actually possible for the community to pool money together to get something or is this just a joke? I'm curious even though it seems like a joke to me :).
If they were dissolved the IPs would probably go up for sale along with any studios they owned. THq a couple years ago were a good example of this, but I dont think Konami is going out of business...I wish they saw the light of day and sold all the Hudson IPs to someone who actually want to make games.
#37
Thanks Steve, I tested IC107 and got

Pin 7 + Pin 6 = 5v
Pin 5 = 5v

Pin 1 + Pin 2 = 0v
Pin 3 = 0v

Pin 5 (IN+) and 6 (IN-) are both 5v and then Pin 7 (out) is 10v , so if pin 7 is 10v is it just adding the voltages and one of those should (5,6) be 0v? Sorry learning as I go on this one, havent dealt with the chips much.

Cool looking game,  I just picked up a copy of neo nectaris this week.  I may have to try this one next.

Quote from: thesteve on 05/05/2015, 06:49 PMIC107 and IC521 have issues
start with IC107 as it looks like its missing ground
Thanks for the reply, it looks like Pin 4 is supposed to be ground, I did a continuity test on IC107 from a ground to pin 4 and had continuity (also checked for voltage and saw no voltage). Whats the best way to work backwards to figure out why the chip is getting (assuming) too much voltage?

I put in a hucard and ran it, these were the values I got, I think I got all the 4558s

Fixed my missing left channel of sound :) Found a bad solder joint in the audio section. I dont think my CD sound issue is fixed though from that, I have very low cd background music sound + normal sound effects volume. Is there any way to run the CD with the cover off, I saw a pic where someone had removed the spindle magnet from the top cover or had a spare but wasnt sure if that was possible.

EDIT : Found the guide to remove the magnet,
http://console5.com/wiki/Turbo_Duo

I have spent a lot of time continuity testing each trace in the sound area with no luck so far.

Things I am wondering about that may affect the CD sound.
1) RGB mod was added around same time, could the 5v line be messing with anything? I used the side of C532 to get 5V.
2) R687 came off during cap replacement but I soldered it back on, could that affect anything?
3) Which 4558 op amps are responsible for the CD sound, I read IC506 is chip sound. Is there a way to test each of these other than checking leg 8 for voltage?
#42
OK may have found something else, not sure if its an issue or not. I hooked my probe to the main ground strap that attached to the cd rom board and started testing the ground legs on the caps in that area. The five caps below (one you cant see its small behind the left cluster) I dont get continuity from the ground strap on the left leg. I took a small piece of wire and connected one leg to another that was getting continuity, then that leg started getting continuity. Weird thing is when I run the machine and use the left leg as negative and the right as positive I still get a good volatage reading of 3.8v. So I am guessing there are maybe two seperate ground planes?

#43
Thanks for the help =) Of those caps you circled , the bottom 22uf cap was really bad underneath when I removed it yesterday. I removed some pcb at the hole attached to that solder pad and soldered the leg of the cap to that and then ran a line from the ground leg of the cap behind it to ground it. I was getting plenty of voltage through this cap last night when I tested, but maybe I didnt repair this area correctly.

I flipped the board and did find this one area with a black mark on a trace, I tested continuity between the jumper and leg around it and got continuity.

Picked up Monster Lair on ebay. Little disappointed in the condition, couldnt tell in the pictures but the case is a little yellow :(
#45
C604 and C610 were 2.8 v but everything else in the area looked to be 3.8 and higher, I couldnt check the non surface mounted stuff while the board is running. Could those 2 be causing the issue?

Edit: Been also reading on the forums that sometime the 4558 can cause this issue, is there a way I can test these? Also since HuCard sound is normal , could the low CD sound be laser related at all?
#46
So I started a full recap because the music for cd games was too low, you can hear it but the sound effects are about 2-3x as loud. I found a bunch of dead caps and replaced everything but 4 caps between the card slot and the large heatsinks since my region mod is in the way (C522,C519,C521,C525). Started the system up and it plays fine , looks fine, but the sound is still low on CD and I have lost left channel even on hucards. Since I have replaced basically everything it doesn't really narrow it down to what could have been the issue. Anyone have some advice on which caps to look at for the 2 issues I am still having? Thanks for any help!

Edit:replaced the last 4 caps

I started playing Cratermaze and Aero Blasters, both are pretty fun. I had to stop cratermaze to go out around lvl 14 , prob put in a password to continue where I left off.

This was my first solder job ever. But I have very steady hands hehe. On my Duo, I ended up cutting a notch out of the top cover and glued it down to the bottom where that peice would usually sit and attached the switch into it. That way I can remove the cover whenever I want without having to worry about moving the switch.

I have mine hooked up with component, when I get a TG16 game, I will take a pic with a digicam or something. Still havent decided which game to grab.

Quote from: "willis"I am looking for a complete copy of Dungeon Explorer II. Is anyone willing to part with one, when i say part i mean willing to sell? I don't know how much to ask, so please let me know how much you want.

I'm in desprate need of this game, as i'm sure there other people are too!

Mint copy of the US version is going to run you 100+ . You can get a japanese version for about 20 on ebay though. That is one of the more rare US games, so it might be hard to find someone willing to part with it.
