From what I can tell. Green wire is Green, blue wire is blue, yellow wire is red. Assuming they kept the same color coding through the amp you can assume those color wires on the vga port are the same.

The brown and red single wires from the 5 pin din port I believe are going to be your right and left audio.

The red and orange wire combo is going to be 5v.

Purple wire is composite video, where you would get your sync signal for the video.

The yellow and orange wire combination I think is ground.

It's really hard to tell from the pictures where everything runs to and from.

I would focus on making your connection from the blue, green, yellow wires that come from the amp and the purple wire for sync.
Then the brown and red wire for your left and right audio.

The 5v and ground rails you shouldn't need to worry about on an external cable unless the equipment you are using needs it.

Its really trial and error to see what works best for you.

I have had caps that were so dried out that once I put a hot air station to the cap to heat the solder for removal the cap exploded and I didn't have the hot air station on it for more then 2-3 seconds.

Some solder corrosion is so bad that it's nearly impossible to heat and melt it before cap popping and other damage happens to the traces from all the heat.

Honestly, imo... Remove the caps carefully any way that is within your capability to fix if something should go wrong. And remember.... Wash the entire boards thoroughly before putting new caps back on. And remove the op-amps in the audio area so you clean under them. Test the traces through the board before putting caps back on can help to find bad traces with less stuff in your way for testing.

Quote from: EmperorIng on 04/12/2018, 07:48 PMThanks for the suggestion. I tried it and it still says the iso's are corrupted (bullshit - they work fine on my Windows 7 laptop w/ DaemonToolsLite - the old version before they became scamware). I wonder if it's a Windows 10 problem... just another reason to hate Windows 10 if so.  ](*,)

At this point I might just burn a disc - which sorta defeats the purpose, but hey! Maybe I'll slap a sticker on it and bundle with a bottle of coke zero and sell it for $400 on ebay.  :cook:
A bit off topic on my part.
I have tried nearly everything to strip "windows defender security system" from my win10 install. I am finding if it does not like certain legit programs it flags them as a virus and then disables or removes them. A bit of self conjecture leads me to believe Microsoft will eventually only let approved software run on there OS and nothing else. Even if the software is safe and not really a threat in any way.

As for Sapphire.... I am impressed with it's looks on the TG16 hardware. I have not beaten it yet but it is an enjoyable game for when I am in the mood for something like it. I do show it off to people as well when they are over and they have an interest in vintage gaming.

Time to bust out my old mgc burn to reminisce?
#6
*cough* It's no longer sealed. *cough*

However I always look at the center ring of all the discs. The HCD numbers I am unsure if they can reproduce but all TG16/PCE cd's have exact letters and numbers around the center of the disc.

I have never played SoM.

Buy on PS4, and stream to the vita when a portable is needed? Or just buy on the vita and call it a day? Or do you get both versions while paying just for one version like some other games. Like Ys Origins.

I bought my vita originally just to stream PS4 games to it. It works ok after getting used to the controls.

Quote from: guestIf it's the original (black) Duo and hasn't been recapped, that's where you should start. If it's been recapped or is a Duo-R or RX, then it probably needs some pot adjustments.
Exactly as NecroPhile said.

These machines need new caps as the originals go bad. If you do it yourself... After all the caps are removed make sure you clean the board completely.

If caps have been replaced. Next step is to calibrate the lens with the pots.
#9
Not sure where people are getting there lenses from.
I buy all my hop-m3 and kss-210B lenses from dalbanicorporation.
https://m.ebay.com/itm/KSS-210B-Generic-Sony-Replacement-Laser-Lens-KSS210B-Optical-Pickup-CD-VCD/120865809030?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

I have never had a dead/bad hop-m3 from them yet. However I have had 1 bad kss-210B in the last batch of 10 that I ordered.
#10
I would be guessing. I know these don't usually need caps but I have seen caps cause weird issues with the controller. Also, broken traces. Again core 2 usually doesn't suffer from this.

There is always the question of the port itself. If severely worn out possibly a new on is in order to make proper contact.
If you replaced or did any work in the system..... Make sure there are no solder splatters or blobs anywhere that could be shorting something out.

All guess's.... But those would be the first places to look imo if the controller works perfect on other systems.

I forgot about this thread and translation. Was going through some stuff and stumbled back across it.

Hows it going? :D

Yeah, pretty shitty. The way to tell is by looking at the center of the disc. It's not like the originals. Eventually you'll have to tell them apart by looking for the code number in the center of the disc like with saphire to tell if it's a real version or not.

I sent you a pm. You can check that. I quoted my prices with no mods, and with. Or shop around. :)

Instead of putting 0 I put whatever I see on my multimeter. Or describe what it is doing. I tested with the board powered on. Not connected to the cd-rom and no HuCard in the system.

I'll check the voltages on those two chips tonight. I'll either edit this post or make another one.

Company for a b-day party at the moment.
#18
Not sure if it would help. But you could go after the OKI 5205 (IC 502) and IC 505.
If I remember the IC 505 is analog and IC 502 is digital.

Currently sold out at console 5. Might need to hit ebay.
https://console5.com/store/m5205-oki-adpcm-speech-ic-for-turbografx-cd-turboduo.html

IC 505
https://www.ebay.com/itm/5PCS-M51131L-New-Best-Offer-2-CHANNEL-ELECTRONIC-VOLUME-BALANCE/322911670659?epid=21010585405&hash=item4b2f091183:g:8QEAAOSw3fZaHOMv

I however think a lot of the issue is with the voltage at the op-amp at IC 506.
IC 506 voltages for normal audio levels that I have seen is.

1 = 3.64
2 = 3.64
3 = 3.64
4 = -.5
5 = 3.64
6 = 3.64
7 = 3.642
8 = 7.29

Granted they can be off slightly from these values. But if all the legs on this op-amp are correct around these values then I would go after the two above mentioned chips if you still have low audio.

Did someone say erotic?!!

The most erotic thing I do to my TG16/PCE every time I play it is insert something! :D

Awesome that its on the wii-u.... Bad that I don't own one. Also I can't read moonrunes yet. :(
#20
I do think they will be great. Just glad I waited.

I wasn't trying to bring down the console. Was only trying to describe the stuff that seems wrong or bad with it from my readings.

Quote from: imparanoic on 01/26/2018, 01:50 AMso let me get this straight, if you have a modified rgb pc engine, then the super system 3 has problems with it, but if you have non modified pc engine, then super system 3  should have no problems with it, in RGB or composite mode.
Your assumption is incorrect.
The device it seems... Introduces noise into the audio and video signals. It will not matter if a system is already modded or not.

The other issue is the megadrive cables and the internal RGB mod they did does not have the proper caps/resistors  to balance the video signal for proper color output. Also using a pure sync setup is causing issues as most displays prefer a composite sync signal for sync.

This is my take on it and I could be wrong.

Mods delete please.

Someone at my work wanted my entire rig. Nothing to sell.
#23
All four games are good ones imo.

The boxed US Duo prolly cost a small fortune if there is a console in it.

Grats on the games and gear. Hopefully it's been fully recapped.

Did you own these games before? Are you familiar with them or are they new to you? Let us know how it goes with them and if you enjoy them or not.
#24
I just read up on the overall situation on the other forums. Seems the product works but there are a few issues that can be worked around. Type of cables mostly....

The audio and video noise bleeding together would be my main concern and I hope they resolve that in a newer revision of the pcb. I am not sure if that is what is needed, just going off the information I read.

However it looks like they are trying to get it all worked out. I wish them the best of luck as I possibly want one of these down the road. But I'll wait and watch for a while to see how things pan out further.
#25
Hopefully they can find better cables then retrogamingcables as they have issues in the normal composite TG16 cables they sell. Usually bad solder joints to ground.

I don't have one nor purchased one. So I don't know any overall issues. I am however curious if they balanced the RGB colors properly for accurate color output.

I would think moving to an 8pin din and wiring them up like the standard modders here do they would have plenty of quality scart type cables to choose from instead of megadrive cables.
#26
I would test the system with the default av cable. Not sure if that is what you are doing.

This will ensure your composite video and sync are still good. That would point to something with the mod itself then.

If there is no composite video ensure the traces from the hu6260 all the way to the video output are all good. May take some time but the composite video trace shouldn't be to hard to follow.

If that is all good and the mod is installed I think his mod chips have a built in sync stripper? You may need to check how you are using sync as you can only have composite video or pure... C-sync to that din pin. Having both connected at the same time can cause issues.
#27
I hav a pre-mgc .iso I am willing to sell for $500.  I swear I won't make any copies of the iso and sell it again......

I have mgc cdrom and cdrom packet  with mgc markings.
I also have henshin blank cdrom inserts front and back and two different buttons. All for a measly price of $750. Because of the rarity of course.

Jk ;D

However it makes for fine shelf candy when I want to play or show off something at a very early stage of development or in the making of.....

However... If Saru doesn't mind. I'll host up some of those .iso files I have as the game is so near it's release. Not sure if it matters or not if I throw them up on the net for peeps to see if they missed out on some of the early betas/alphas. For free of course.
I guess I should also mention ... Only if I can even find the iso on my server. :)
#28
Since you mentioned the retrofreak. I own one....

They do indeed rip a cart to a sdcard. However the files they make cannot be used in something like a TurboEverdrive.

I have tested this and is actually the reason I bought the retrofreak. To see how it ripped the cart games. I don't know if you can just rip the headers out of the files it makes and then the roms will work in an everdrive but it's not worth the hassle in the long run.

retrofreak imo is only good for people who want to play cartridge based games and don't own any of the systems with RGB and scart cables with an upscaler. I cannot compare to a retron 5 as I don't own one of those but my retro freak does a solid job of making games portable when I go to other peoples houses and don't want to drag along 5 consoles and an upscaler.

Anyways....   :)

There are patterns and safe zones you can move your character around and not have the guns fire at you.

Depending on the unit attacking a base is dependant on how to position the character for attacking the cores.

I streamed this game back when we had that can pcefx beat all the games in year thing. Although I have no idea if the video is still out there someplace. I don't know if I have any footage of an assault on a base and core.

Once finding a core move away from it and then get just enough on screen where you can hit it. If it's far enough off the screen it will not shoot at you.
Also, sitting below the middle area where it shoots using a unit that shoots from the top when standing sideways you can hit cores without getting hit.

The AI is very dumb. Once you get enough units to basically overpower the enemy you will always win. I leave units on my bases and play ring around the Rosey with enemy attacking units. The guns inside the bases will kill the enemy before my unit dies.

Hope that made sense....
#30
Someone needs to find and upload those roms. I can't see anyone paying that kind of cash.
#31
If you need to bust out some graph paper if it helps. Mark the walls you bomb and everything.

It's stuff like that is what I used to do back in the day.
#32
Man don't give up....

Neutopia 2 is a solid play. I enjoyed the game. It has its own quirks and such. I remember it being a bit of an exploration game as well. Bomb everything, burn everything to make sure you don't miss a thing.

Also mapping out areas can help too. To make sure you don't miss items by not going somewhere you possibly should have in the overworld areas. Dungeons have there own maps on e you get the crystal ball of course.

It's worth at least one play through imo.
#33
In the cdrom adjustment pots guide on this forum I think it was around page 8. There is a post that specifies specific good values that work for nearly all of the units as a base value to start at. Don't even need an oscilloscope for it just a regular volt meter to do it and start from a good value.
#34
I have seen replacing caps fix this. But it is a crap shoot when doing so.

There are so few and so cheap for this cdrom unit you might as well do it to ensure the systems caps are good and not causing you issue.

I would do this before adjusting the pots, imo.

It's like a wall of shit at this point. Lol

How the hell did he get a million...... Uhg

Playing on my supergrafx, everdrive, on my plasma through a framemeister. :)

Does a three button controllers third button drop a nuke at the expense of say 5 lives? ;D

Also, not much to discuss here. But if you support Net Neutrality, which I think everyone does.....

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/we-people-call-resignation-fcc-chairman-ajit-varadaraj-pai

Go, sign, get this cuckload of ass out of the FCC.

Btw, as a gamer... One that plays online and off. I can see people having to pay a premium for lower pings to specific servers. Someone with a fast lane with a lower ping as there packets are prioritized will have a huge advantage over someone that doesn't pay the premium and gets a higher ping to said server with unprioritized packets.

Granted ping is usually an effect by distance from a physical server location. But by prioritizing packets artificial pings and latency can become an issue. It's a way to milk people of more money to give them special treatment.

Then... lets say facebook has to pay comcast just to be allowed across there network. Then lets say comcast charges you an extra $5 or even $10/mo just to access facebook because it's a service they have after facebook already paid comcast to be on there service. Double dip much?

When Net neutrality is gone, "We The People" will get fucked, and fucked hard if we want internet.
#37
Just curious if anything is still going on with these.

I would be interested in two of them.

Didn't know if it was dropped or if the details were still getting worked out or what.....
#38
My current high score is 20,120
However postimg.org is not letting me upload the pictures for some reason. Maybe time to change pic hosts or make my own again.

This was my very first try at the game so I know I can get it higher but I thought it was a good first try.
#39
I think I got rid of my extra duo-r shell. But I will check my parts and pieces to see if I have an extra one.

I'll let you know sometime tomorrow if I have one or not as I am at work now for the next 12'ish hours.

That's an interesting one. Usually you don't find the Jag mentioned much in any kind of general or even personal "best of" list.

Incidentally, there's a guy working on a flash cart for it. Last I checked, he was making good progress.
I had two jaguars, two dooms and the link cable. Doom multiplayer with friends on a console was really amazing fun at the time.

Oh and that super shitty game. Club drive. My friends and I played it nearly non stop in tag mode.

I had a lot of fun with theme park. Trying to make everyone throw up and such. Then cannon fodder, Rayman, attack of the killer mutant penguins... I thought were all good games.
#41
All of my gaming nowadays is either PCE/TG16, Windows, or emulated, and maybe some segacd from time to time.
I say windows instead of PC as PC can reference to Macs and Linux based computers.
PC = personal computer and a Mac or Linux PC is a personal computer.

So my overall favorites from the 80's and 90's are

1: windows - this includes ms-dos based games.
2: pce/TG16
3: segacd
4: Genesis
5: Nes
6: Intellivision
7: Saturn
8: snes
9: Jaguar
10: N64

I loved Astrosmash from the Intellivision.

Just grabbed this, can't wait to try it out!
#43
Since my name was mentioned here.

I am not currently taking on any new work. I have a few systems I am willing to sell if someone is interested. However, I have a baby on the way and I am working my main job around 70'ish hours a week right now.

Maybe after the start of the new year I will have a bit of free time but I wouldn't count on it.
#44
Agreed Necro... This is imo a must own game if you are into RPGs on this system. Especially since it's actually in English.

It's a solid but standard old school romp with a pretty good story. Oh and the voice acting is pretty funny and/or good too depending how you take it.
#45
There was a site passing out the discs and posters for free.
I don't remember the name but that's how I got my disc.

It has the fancy mega Man stuff on the top of the cd too. So I wouldnt pay anything for these discs imo as I know they can be gotten for free.
#46
The US version is very beatable. I did it many years ago. I should probably revisit it at some point I suppose and refresh my memory on the game. The original exile on the turbo I thought was really easy. Like cadash.... Just grind the start a bit and the rest of the game is a breeze.
#47
Just an update...

I had to work all week so I was not able to get to the post office. This Thursday morning 10-5-17 I finally have a day off to get there and drop these games off.

Congrats to all that won, and the extra we could contribute to Rover for this game.
