@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

Hey guys, in 2008 I sold nearly my entire video game collection.  16 consoles and over 600 games.  ugh- all that I have now is a modded Xbox and a Dreamcast.  At this upcoming Midwest gaming classic- I'm going to take the plunge and start collecting again.  The only problem is I want to start at a moderate pace and I'm not too sure what system to start with.

The obvious choice is a Turbo Duo/ Duo R/ PCE/ TG16. I know that within the next few years I will not be able to live on much longer without having it again.  *BUT* The somewhat daunting task of starting over a collection I was 146 games deep in a year ago sounds a bit exhausting to me right now.  Just thinking about trying to hunt down those rare Dungeon Explorer II's and Beyond Shadowgates gives me a headache...lol  The Saturn is kind of in the same boat.  I sold off about 80 games and 2 consoles last year, and its probably just too soon for me to start putting that collection back together.  Although I do have a loose Gex lying around....hahah

Of all the systems listed in this poll, the only one I never owned would be the 7800.  I had a 2600, but the idea of a broadened library of 8-bit games and a fresh start sounds pretty good right about now.

As for the Genesis, Jaguar, and 3DO I've had a handful of games for them, played them a bit, but truly they never were featured in my gaming collections.  The Genni was overshadowed by my love for snes and turbo, and the jag and 3DO couldn't compare to my unhealthy Saturn obsession.

The PCFX was so dissapointing that I sold it 4 months after buying it....  I think I might have to give it a second chance though....

The Virtual Boy and NGPC, I find are so awesome that I must own them once again!!  Speaking of the NEO GEO- I want to jump into MVS collecting eventually- I just don't know if I've got the time and money right now to get me a board modded....

So what to you guys think?  Atari 7800 worth jumping into?  Or should I go with NGPC?  Those are the two I'm kind of leaning toward..

Thanks in advance!!  ;)

I say go for the MVS.  You won't regret it.  If you can I'd say get a MV-2F or a MV-1F which you can get really cheap and if you have a free weekend sometime and the right parts (most expensive thing would be the encoder if you absolutely must have all the bells and whistles on it) and mod it yourself.  It isn't that hard as long as you have any kind of soldering skill.  Of course I say that cause with games like Garou: MotW, KOF 98, Real Bout Special, Fatal Fury Special, Pulstar, Neo Turf Masters, Baseball Stars, and Blue's Journey you can't go wrong. :P

If you don't feel like modding that MVS you can use a supergun instead. Some can be bought cheap like a Vogatek MKII supergun which goes for < $45 on ebay, and it has s-video and composite output.

This seller builds the vogatek superguns and his are less expensive than that other guy - http://shop.ebay.com/merchant/arcade-blazer_W0QQ_nkwZQQ_armrsZ1QQ_fromZQQ_mdoZ

However he doesn't have the MKII available right now. He's probably out of parts, so you'll have to ask him to build one.

I voted Something else. I will now in return suggest some fds action! That is what I've gotten into lately. heh. It should keep you busy for quite sometime. Maybe even get one of those cool Sharp Twin Famicoms! :)

My vote: TurboGrafx-16 rules dude!!

If you had 146 games, get some ones you never beat before. There's still 600+ more games you didn't have last time, right?

NecroPhile

I vote Turbo, but go the economical and go PCE.  My second choice would be a NGPC for some portable fun.

P.S. - Screw the Jaguar, PC-FX, and Virtual Boy.  They're too far in their niches to be my sole gaming outlet.

PCE/TG for sure.  Rags had a good point, plenty of good games you didn't have last time around.

WoodyXP

Go with the MVS.

My second choice would be the Saturn, it's got the best variety, IMO.

I just ordered my MVS setup. With the Neo, you're not getting ports, you're getting the actual arcade games.

Pure 2D awesomeness. The games look fantastic even today, and some of the fighters are still the best fighting games ever made. Stuff like Samurai Showdown 2, Last Blade, and Garou: Mark of the Wolves are sheer perfection. If you are a shooter fan like me, there are tons of awesome shmups to sink your teeth in.

Oh, and Metal Slug. What more can you want?

CrackTiger

If you're not collecting games solely based on their collectible value to others and plan to asctually play them, then the PC Engine is the cheapest and best way to go. You can buy games like Dungeon Explorer II, Dynastic Hero, Ys I & II, Ys III, Valis II, Valis III, Super Air Zonk cheap and they're all 95+% as playable for gaijins. Let alone all the other great PCE-only cheap games.

I also had chosen to start off with the TurboGrafx-16. Since this is a console that you greatly love so much, it may be the best choice for you as you will be able to play the titles you loved from that console once you are able to seek them (and the sooner the better too :)).

I know you've been through some rough times, TurboStar. I just want you to be aware that I will be keeping the copies of Dungeon Explorer, Ninja Spirit, and China Warrior safe with me as much as I possibly can.
