@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

PERFECT TIMING!!!!

I needed something to listen to today whilst I shovel my never-ending driveway.

Later tonight (snowstorm or not), I'll be driving up to Boston.

I suspect I'll be listening to the last 3 episodes, since I don't remember them too well.

Woo-hoo!  Looks like I have some catching up to do.  Thanks, sunteam.

10 points to anyone who can name the 3 games used in the intro each time.

Yay! I know it will eventually show up on my iPod. For some reason episode 9 isn't available yet (yeah, this happened before, don't worry, I simply have to wait). :)

You are referring to the tune after coins are inserted? It is so goddamned familiar.

There are three games used there: walking sound effects, tune and the 'blast' at the end of the tune. Shouldn't be difficult to get, they are all PC Engine!

1. No, but you're getting warmer.
2. No. The jingle is from a rubbish game.
3. Famous shooter, keep guessing.

Nobody's got this yet?  Of course the tune is the intro to Xevious, but I don't really know the origins of the other 2.  I'm guessing the blast is from a Konami game like Salamander or Gradius II?

Yes, the tune is Xevious (I was going to use the arcade version but it sounded terrible). The blast is from a shooter, not the ones mentioned, but I thought it would be easy to guess. The other effect (footsteps) is from a Telenet game...

Nope. It's from the opening to a game, the first thing you hear when the logo appears.

...and it's not Last Alert/Red Alert.

And I doubt it's Lady Phantom, which is the most recent Telenet game I've played (it's not that good, unfortunately).

DRAGON SPIRIT/SABER sound effect?

Two really unsubtle hints now: one game has to do with cars, the other has to do with someone on this forum.

_Paul

It was Legend of Dekoboko (footsteps), Xevious (jingle) and Tatsujin (explosion).

Dear lord!

Dekoboko--I've played that less than Lady Phantom! No wonder I didn't even think of it. As for Xevious-- that was drinving me crazy! It was so familiar, but I could NOT GET IT. I'm glad I finally know where everything is from now.

I listened to Ep 11 two and half times during my commute today. I was surprised by how much the first song reminded me of 80's dance/pop songs. When I heard the voice samples used in the song, I was convinced they were from a BASKETBALL game. No joke.

Not sure how you link it with basketball! One of the samples is Brit comedian Harry Enfield's character Loadsamoney from a 1990s TV show. Never really liked him much myself but he was popular. Not sure where the others came from. I remember seeing and hearing the intro to Blood Money for the first time, it was pretty impressive.

Oh shit! I've been wondering about that song for 20 fucking years, no joke. I never played the game itself but downloaded the song (possibly as a MOD?) from an Amiga BBS in 1990, or something like that. I put it on a cassette and listened to it about a million times.

The closest real life pop equivalent, IMO, is the Canadian group Kon Kan:

I downloaded the first podcast yesterday and listened to it in my car. Some great stuff on there, especially the Donkey Kong Country tune. That particular chiptune always manages to get a strong emotional reaction out of me like any good song should. :) An eerie song that offsets my daily intake of live Who nicely. 8)

No, I played it on a SNES back in the day. It's not that I didn't like it, just that it didn't quite generate the buzz in me that it did with other people. It was just a bit...Nintendo-ey.

Quote from: ccovell on 10/16/2010, 10:15 PMSo what's this then?

From the first page of this thread. :) Downloaded the second episode the other day too.

Please don't take them down! [-o< I'd like to get all the episodes eventually. They make my daily commute to work much more enjoyable.

_Paul

I won't take them down, but there are only the first few episodes up there. So many people were having trouble downloading them I stopped using it.

Hi Guys, my portable HD got zapped and I lost all my episodes.  Went back to the links that work and got those.  Any chance someone can please share episodes 4-12?

I would appreciate it very much.
