Hello all,
I've been thinking of getting the game Night Creatures lately, does anyone have this game and is it any fun?

I have heard people saying it is flawed and the controls are terrible, but it just seems like the type of game I usually like so I would
                  really like to try it.

Despite the flaws and all, is the game any fun to play or is it a game that one should avoid at all costs?

cho_aniki

Sorry for the double post, I actually forgot to mention something. I have found some info on the internet which says the Night Creatures
HuCard can work on a regular Japanese Pc Engine.

     Can anyone confirm this?

Night Creatures can be fun if you're willing to laugh at it. It's like a goofy Simon's Quest with poor controls. The "quest" only takes about twenty minutes to complete if you know what you're doing or have a FAQ in hand, and there are only three tunes in the whole game. It's not a well-crafted product by any means, and it's not something you should buy if you're looking for a serious quest game, but it's kitschy entertainment and fairly challenging (if not always for the right reasons).

Night Creatures is 95% pure, unadulteratedly shit. Like runinruder said - the controls suck and the music is lacking. Add crap hit detection, poorly animated sprites, and repetitive game play, and you have one spectacularly trashy game. On the plus side, some of the backgrounds do look pretty, but I would consider some of the other titles in the TG-16 library first.

Night Creatures is hands down the worst game on the Turbo in my book. Like previously stated, the controls are horrible and the hit detection is wayyyy off (meaning you will get hit a LOT.)

Wow, I thought it sounded interesting when I first saw this thread, and when Runinruder compared it to Simon's Quest, I was even more intrigued. The later responses killed all my hopes though.

Night Creatures can be fun under the right circumstances, like if you commit yourself to beating it no matter what, like I did.

Although the collision is broken, its not much worse than Ninja Gaiden NES.

The graphics aren't terrible, its just that the game as a whole is so obviously unfinished.

It doesn't go for much, so if you're a fan of the TG-16 and adventurey games like Simon's Quest, its worth trying.

Its true that there are better Turbo games, but you can always say that there are better games when talking about any title.

I like it, so its possible that other people in the world may also be able to appreciate it.

Actually, you don't need a Turbografx.

Apparently Night Creatures is the only US HuCard that works on a Pc Engine.

ParanoiaDragon

Can anyone confirm that? I thought there was a different number of pins, on PCE cards, compared to Turbo cards.

ccovell

Of course, you always need a converter to play JP<->US games on the alternate system. But almost all U.S. games also have lockout code that prevents US games from playing on a Japanese system. He's saying that Night Creatures doesn't have this lockout code.

Hecate

If you are new player of night creatures, do not go the WEST of VILLAGE *(START IN VILLAGE)

let me tell you what I got in all my forum
http://mjf.suddenlaunch.com

"Most people say this game is difficult is ALMOST ALL FAILURE ARE ALL INSIDE THE GREEN GRAVEYARD AREA"

I am w1cht3l in that forum, yes if you see my forum, there is easy and difficult (FULL) walkthru inside night creatures...

The reason why graveyard is not in easy walkthru is because MOST PEOPLE WHO PLAY NIGHT CREATURES why think difficult is because green graveyard you need enough ability before you can try.

or else, mostly, if you got not enough skill but just get inside just because the walkthru included that green graveyard area...mostly, most people die in the purple tree in 1-2 or this one, but purple tree you can still get a chance to defeat...but this green graveyard...

you need to train in the easy route *(route ohne grün graveyard...erste)...wann du kann gewonne (alle platz aber ohne grün graveyard, west von village area.)

you need to train on the status bar weapon swapping and other areas first, before you can try green graveyard.

MOST PEOPLE DIE ON GREEN GRAVEYARD

THE GAME IS DIFFICULT ON THE GREEN GRAVEYARD.

The control is very difficult to control . Mine is in PC version. I only know ctrl is attack. but what key calls status bar is already forgotten. but surely when you paused ... click right arrow can turn status into the weapons/items area. and swap by diff arrows or tab...but ...

...but...the DETECTABILITY of the game to the engine/PC/machine IS VERY VERY LOW.

very bad / low detectability, and you will always get killed because the PC can;t detect.

Thanks for bumping a three year old thread just to pimp your own forum. You wins the interwebs.

I hope y'all run over there and check this out. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll get cross-eyed trying to decipher the broken English.... but best of all, you'll find the "official NIGHT CREATURES (1991 - NEC) Site". Who knew that sunteam was so legit?

I don't know if you noticed while you were over there, but this lunatic is the one and only poster in the many Night Creatures-themed threads, using more accounts than I can count on one hand. He/she/it apparently even gets enough "BLAME E-MAIL" to warrant a thread warning off any souls daring to be so "clever" as to point out the posted walkthrough omits (on purpose!) the graveyard section of the game.

Although Hecate makes such a big deal of avoiding the Graveyard, they made a 658(!) pic walkthrough or "Strategy (EXPLAINED IN IMAGES)" using screen captures in-order from my play-through video, even though it completely goes against their "avoid the graveyard" strategy/mantra. :)

My walkthrough omits the Mire because you literally don't need to visit it at all to complete the time-limited game. However, you literally cannot finish the game without visiting the Graveyard. In fact the Graveyard is the where you'll spend most of the game at, or popping in and out of, before the final boss area. It is challenging, but so is the whole game. Although avoiding the Graveyard could be advice for practice to gain skill first, you're better off just working on the path I laid out until you either get the hang of it or give up entirely (the latter being more likely ).

Wow, while working on this post I just found like a dozen comments from Hecate's aliases on part 2 of my youtube video. Including a bunch of complaints about marking a comment as spam which I never even did. :P

I think that it was the last line of the flagged comment that got it marked as spam-

Quoteif you go like a box came with lots of green girls, slim and hot, you will find out you will die fast
Anyway, I changed it to "not spam". :)

I think it's cool that Night Creatures is getting some more attention and in this case it's very fitting for the subject matter. =D>

I like Night Creatures, there is a special graphical charm that I can't nail down. I just like the overall appearence personally. Now, I suck at ALL games so I suck hard at this one.... with walk-thru. I love games, they just don't love me....

I totally hear you. Back in the day, I didn't appreciate the aesthetic qualities of this game. Now, however, looking at the character/stage design of most games, Night Creatures definitely has an interesting, unique style for home consoles. Plus, I think they did a decent job with the color palette and (oddly enough) there are little graphical touches (used too sparingly, unfortunately) that suggest that someone actually cared about this game before it crumbled into the mess it is.

ShinobiMan

This was the game that nearly killed my chances of ever owning a Turbo Grafx. It was sometime in 1993, and the system was on clearance at a local Super Market. My dad decided to pick it up (he was a gamer himself, and he knew I enjoyed playing it at my neighbors house.) Unaware of what games were good and what games were bad, he picked up Night Creatures.

Upon playing the game, and realizing how horrible it was, we actually both decided that the perhaps the majority of Turbo game were this bad. We returned the system and the game, and it wasn't until a year later when I got a Turbo Duo that we decided to give the system another shot. Packed with the Duo were of course some amazing games, so all was good.
