Where's the no, maybe, or good luck with his house votes?  Or maybe even an option for he's an asshole but I can see why he did it?  Another pathetic one sided poll...  You're lame.

C'mon make it a fair poll.  Sure I'll get the majority of people saying ban me, but leaving out the options for people who understand buying a house is more important than video games is weak.  I also like the fact you gave everyone 4 votes to make it pad the numbers.  Surely noone can see this is one sided.

How about a poll that asks if competative figure skating is the gayest thing ever for a man do to?
All is well. :)

The no, maybe, and good luck with the house votes are all for sale on ebay right now for the low low community friendly price of: $Eat.Me

Majority rules, so why waste the time adding a no vote!  You already know what the outcome will be because of your failure.  You just feel left out because there is nothing for you to click on.   Good! Let's keep it that way.

and yeah DUHRHRHRHR, it sure is one sided.  Anyone with a brain would have figured that out without even clicking the link.  At least were all on the good side.  Except for you.  You are all aboard the failroad express!  *choochoo*

Quote from: RoyVegas on 07/29/2010, 07:24 PMHow about a poll that asks if competative figure skating is the gayest thing ever for a man do to?
Yeah, its so gay to skate around with a hot chick partner and have my hand on her ass/hips while shes wearing basically nothing.  SO GAY.  You caught me!

btw, its competitive.  Didn't they teach you how to spell at Big Money Academy?

And is this the best you've got?  Really? OH ARKHAN TOLD ME HE WAS GONNA BUY NEW SKATES, LOLFAG.  At least I'm coordinated enough to do it, and man enough to get out there and roll bounce like a mofo without fear of someone thinking I'm gay.

I'd say it's more like smart.  You skate around with hot chicks all over, and they play 70s and 80s rock.  If immersing ones self in hot chicks, rock, and going 40+mph while doing so makes me gay, well then grab the vaseline and gimme a pillow to bite, cause I'm a queer and a half.

You pulled out the lolgay insults!  What happened to being an adult about all of this!

I hope your kids never get interested in rollerskating! What will you do, give them crew cuts and send them off to military school?

... so they can shower/workout with men and run around and get sweaty and have a sausage fest?

THAT'LL TEACH EM TO NOT BE GAY FOR SURE!

As I understand it, Arkan is pissed that Roy attempted to re-sell some signed and numbered copies of his game Insanity on ebay at a substantial premium. Arkan countered with his own ebay listing at the usual price assuring people it was still in production. Why Arkan is so upset that someone would attempt to resell it at a higher price level is beyond me. He got what he wanted for the game, Roy thinks he can get more for it. This is how a free market works. People buy and resell shit all the time. If he's bootlegging them I can understand, that's copyright infringement, but this is just beating a dead horse at this point.

There are no forum rules against being a tool, so banning is probably not appropriate.  Of course, if Roy continues to stray off-topic (a.k.a. - troll), then he'll eventually earn a drubbing from nat's Mjöllnïr.

You're not the first person to sell games to pay bills; almost nobody has a problem with that.  Mr. Nanto and Nod both sold their goodies to meet their respective housing needs, but few people gave a shit because they didn't price gouge or kick the homebrew peeps in pills.

You miss the part where Roy was worried he wouldn't even get to buy any copies of the game.... and wanted these all for "his collection" and was all HEY YOU AM A COOL DUDE THANKS FOR THE SWEET ADDITIONS TO COLLECTION. etc. etc.

Its backstabbing the community, and it isn't right.

I'm not the type to sit back idly while someones doing something lame like this.  It's not beating a dead horse, its defending your turf.

maybe some of the less vocal, more apathetic people will understand it fully when stuff like this, and other homebrew drama causes PCE homebrew to cease from existing.

There is something to be said about a person's character if they would knowingly sell a game at an inflated price when the game's author is still actively selling it. Especially if the two people know each other. That's just cold in my book, no matter what the reasons or intentions behind it.

did RoyVegas actually BUY the game in the first place? if he did, then it's nobody's business what he does with it. especially if the two are friends, then the one who sold it to him should be more understanding of a monetary situation -if that is the case. i gave my friend a guitar once... a nice one... a jackson, a REALLY expensive jackson. i told him if he ever got rid of the guitar to give it back to me or i would buy it from him or whatever. but something came up where he was in a situation where he needed money quickly and he had to sell the guitar. when i asked him where the guitar was, he told me he had to sell it to get money. i was a little let down, but i understood that when you give a gift, you are supposed to give it without any thought of getting something back... thats what makes it a GIFT. so i was kinda bummed that the guitar was gone, but glad that it was used to help my friend out in a situation where he needed some money very quickly.

i may be far out of the loop on this one, and my sincere appy-polly-logies to you both if i am, but i suggest that you both just shut up and quit whining about it. (and i mean that in the NICEST WAY POSSIBLE....seriously.) arguing over videogames is just 'effing stupid. especially if you are really friends. friendship ALWAYS comes first. material things wouldn't mean anything to me if i didn't have my buddies to... well, be my buddies.

if this doesn't resolve soon, i'm gonna have billy mitchell come down and referee.

"billy mitchell, primo joystick dude... amazing in the maze, yeah he ain't gonna lose"

Its not about omgletsbefriends.  For one, what happened is a stab-in-the-back bitch move.  Its spitting on the efforts of the people involved, and the people who actually support what is going on.

Its about selling Insanity, the first homebrew for the PCE CD in 10 years (and first to do some PSG music!), for an insanely awful price (no pun intended).  Especially considering the one in question was on a lightscribed CD-R, and whoever was unfortunate enough to buy it could have just asked me to make another one.

It ain't like light-scribe discs are uber rare, and it ain't like I don't have the entire game ready to fire off more batches.  Hell you could all make your own.  Scan the artwork, go to kinkos, print em off.  Then, scan the CD, lightscribe the image to the CD-R, copy it.  Voila, you bootlegged the game.

Selling all the other crap, the official, commercial crap, whatever.  It's lame how that went down, but thats water under the bridge really.

The Insanity part didn't have to happen.  It just proves RoyVegas is in it for the money, and not for the collecting, the community, or the longevity of the console.

Now I know next time to put a disclaimer in the manual and on the credits screen saying "If you paid more than *insert original price here*, then you have probably been taken for a ride by some douche"

Its just disrespectful to the people who put a great amount of work into the game.  That extra 175$ ain't going to go very far.  Someone just got greedy.

Some people may think oh, you're just doing this because it's your game and you're mad you didn't get the money.  That isn't true for a few reasons...

1) Doofy's nonsense caused me to quickly move the rest of the CD-R copies, and produced some laughter.
2) I would be this pissed at anyone who is gouging any homebrew for any system where the game is still readily available.  I know what it takes to make a game happen, and it is just downright horrible and moronic to jack pricing up to this extent.

Lets hope Roy doesn't want a beach house in cali when Mysterious Song launches.  We might see that up on ebay for 500$ or something.

lol, yeah...

it wasn't about making friends FROM selling it....

it was about not backstabbing friends you made BEFORE selling it.  That's the big problem.  It's become clear Roy isn't really about the community or respecting homebrew, and that is what sucks.

there was alot of ass busted to make Insanity, and to figure out and streamline alot of things with the hardware.  Its discouraging to see.

The game isn't a modern marvel since its a Berzerk clone and was basically a solo-gig.  but the PSG beast was tackled and had its ass whooped through alot of experimenting, planning, and refining of how to do PSG.  The end result is a fast/simple/effective way to do psg stuff in future games...............

but seeing events like this unfold makes doing future games have a sour taste.

be VERY careful before you judge me... i edited it for a reason. sometimes i tend to find a better way to convey what i mean by saying less. i stand by that statement, but minus the "dumbass" part and the "even if it was for a million dollars" part. of course if i was selling it, i would try to make a profit. it's called a free trade system.

if this were wheelin' and dealin' commercial stuff it would be a different story.

I just take lame-ass profiteering on a community oriented effort that alot of hard work went into as a giant kick to the sack.

It's like donating food to a charity, and the charity people eat it instead of giving it to the people who it was intended for.

The work went into it for collecting and enjoying.  Not hockin' on ebay for retarded amounts.  I feel bad for whoever bought it.  I would've gladly made them a copy for the proper price.

Free market's all fine and dandy -- but such actions mean that one also have to accept the consequence.  And there is definitely going to be a consequence for an action like this.  You'd seriously have to lack some social convention to not see what Roy did was going to be an unpopular move In fact, Roy HIMSELF knew it was going to an unpopular move, but he did it anyway.  Which means he'll simply have to be okay with the fact that he's going to be a pariah for majority of this community.

I dunno if the extra ~$150 (markup for the signed copy of Insanity) was worth that (and I HIGHLY doubt the extra $150 would've made a serious difference in his home-buying -- if it did, then that's just sad), but I guess it was to him.  It's a free-market and all.

But anyway Ark, continually flaming every thread with this subject matter isn't winning you any popularity contests either.  Most people are on your side anyway.

Arkhan Asylum

I didn't flame every thread! :)

There was the original assault in Gouging Much, which should be renamed to Irony Much, a little derail in the original Insanity Contest thread....

and then this, which is the best place to duke it out.

and, yes that is one of my points.... the markup and sale of the Insanity portion of the collection doesn't seem to make an ounce of sense.  The entire maneuver destroys any shred of "Collector" status that roy had.  All of his support of homebrew, and his "drama is excessive" style comments are now null and void.

once you stab someone and their project in the back, there is no turning back.  You've officially ruined it for yourself, and in some cases, for everyone.

If he really was a collector, he wouldn't do that.  If he really supported the systems homebrew scene that is in a fledgling status, he wouldn't spit on others work like this.

PCE homebrew is in a fledgling state.  10 years between launches of games, only one successful chiptune release, lack of proper tools, many mentioned but not worked on projects.......

Alot of that is starting to change... Games are coming out more often (From Aetherbyte at least), we now have a way to properly do chiptunes, the tools and utilities are being improved on (at least from Aetherbyte again!).......

So, seeing all of that hardwork get spit on and fucked around by a "collector", realllllllllllllllllllllllllllly drains alot of the motivation.

and the "oh you dont know me yadda yadda" crap isn't flying either.  I don't need to know someones day to day lifestyle to determine if they're a real collector and fan of a system or not.

There will probably be no retrocade signed editions because of this little fist-fuckery.  All the pre-orderees that pony up $$ before press time will get nothing other than a pat on the back probably.

i'll relate my point to everyone... i don't care who it is. my point is, nobody should be banned from a videogame forum for doing something that someone considers "unethical" there are no forum rules stating that you can't sell games for higher prices than what they are worth... yeah it looks bad and reflects poorly on the person, but a bunch of people bitching and whining about it reflects poorly on the whole community and draws more attention to it.
and which pass did he do it before in... i'm just curious...

was it the pass of CARADHRAS ???
I dont think he should be banned either Rock, but why he sticks around is beyond me? I am only posting to let you know he has a past and your opinion falls short relating it to him, & sorry i am not getting into stories as Roy is no longer worth my time.

We all have real life issues but just have a little respect for this community and its members, its not a lot to ask.
don't tell me to have respect.... lol what are you even talking about? i'm not disrespecting the whole community or any of its members by stating an opinion. just because i disagree doesn't mean i'm disrespecting anyone.

i respect anyone who busts their ass making a homebrew game. god knows i'm smart enough to do it, and mass produce it, but FAR too lazy to ever make it really happen. i give props to anyone who does. even if it's not really that original of a game, it still took effort to make. you are right and i don't know royvegas' history on here. i just don't think anyone should be banned from a forum about videogames unless what they do affects EVERYONE on the forums. i guess it really just boils down to letting roy las vegas and arkham asylum work it out.

Let me find the .wav, I had it on my site for a bit but took it down recently.  I should still have it somewhere.  I'll let you know when I upload it.

and the thing of it is, had the Insanity's been sold for legit pricing, this wouldn't be a big deal at all.  I mean I am thrilled my game fetched more than a commercial game, but ffs lol.  Hard work for a community effort doesn't deserve to be used like this.

Ark, at $25 a game you're selling them for (not including shipping) and having 500 copies made, you stand to make $12,500 once they all sell.  I'm pretty sure that the pre-orders and donations (which by the way if you don't recall I did donate money to the cause to help you out) paid for the entire cost of the printing.  If your ONLY motivation was to make it a "community effort", why do you stand to make so much profit yourself?  Don't get me wrong here, you put in the work and should surely be compensated for your time.  However you did also do this as a hobby that you clearly enjoy.  So if profit is of no concern to you and this whole project is ONLY about the community like you say, then why couldn't you drop the price even more?  Is it necessary for you to make $12,500 profit on the game?

This is assuming I sell them all which I wont for sure.  And if I do, it'll be over the span of a long ass time where it doesn't matter, and neglecting the fact I handed a ton of free ones out to review people, and promoter-y people, and that I might as well charge SOMETHING FOR MY HARD WORK SEEING AS EVERYONE ELSE IS COOL WITH IT AND WILLING, LIKE EVERY OTHER HOMEBREW WHERE THE PEOPLE RESPONSIBLE DESERVE A BIT OF A RETURN.

der.

also, the price point was set to match the current games, and was suggested by a community member.  If thats what the community is willing to do, then I will oblige.

finally, if that's the best rebuttal you've got, I think we are done here.  Go wreck another game consoles market, and stab the homebrew folks in the back.

Surely you've sold (or given away) at least 100 copies, and Roy's the only one to crap on the effort; ignore him and focus on the 99% of appreciative owners.  If you're going to let a such a small minority discourage you and damper your spirits, then prepare for a lifetime of disappointments, as there's sadly always going to a fly in the ointment.

Good plan; creating limited editions practically guarantees elevated prices later (what did the last Meteor Blaster DX: SE fetch?), but you could still do something like the soundtrack disc.  Since it's an easily replicated CD-R, it doesn't have much chance of jacking prices.

Current ridiculous ebay prices are a direct result of people like Roy, so price gouging does effect everyone on the forum (excepting the few that don't buy or sell games).  True, there are no rules against it (non-bannable), but being a part of a community means more than just following the few rules set forth.

If your true intention (as you say) was a community effort, why all the need to promote it other places?  All you really needed was a thread here and some reviews from a few people here.  Your goal was bigger than just a community effort.  People told you 500 copies was to many yet you chose to go with the bigger order anyway.  Don't act like you didn't see some profit in it and it was just made to support the community.

Fact is, you're full of it.  Making a profit isn't a community effort, it's a business.  Your community effort statement is just as much of a crock of shit as you saying Windy took your side on the whole issue.  He likes to stay out of these kind of things yet even he took the time to come on and say you lied when you said he sided with you.  But wait, you deleted that thread.

The community is not JUST this forum, asshat.  Many Turbo people don't even go to this forum.  I know local duo collectors who don't come here and have alot cooler shit than you.  Theres a mailing list of people who don't come here....there are foreign forums as well that I myself don't go to.... and the Japanese community.... which doesn't really do the forum thing like we do.  It's mostly anon image boards.

Its for the SYSTEM, and the SYSTEM'S community at large, be it people from Digitpress, here, even gamefaqs, local people... fans and supporters of this console.  Turbo fans who don't frequent here deserve the game too.  Hell, they deserve it more than you, and you are here.

As for the print run, lets look at it this way.

300 copies, bare minimum run.
500 copies, same shipping price, 40$ extra on the actual price.

the next quantity was a substantial jump in cost AND shipping.  Was no longer worth it, otherwise, I would have got as many as possible.

You realize I take these to a convention too, and demo it for people.

and now, 200 more people can be exposed to the game for a pissant price difference.  Seems legit to me.  I would rather overshoot the needed quantity than undershoot it and have to go through a print run process again.  Forward thinking!  Something you might want to try sometime.

Oh yes you caught me.  I made mad profits on Insanity.  Those 99 cent hotdogs and 59 cent cokes, and like, a ps3 game or something.  Totalllllly rollin in the money here.  Living like a goddamn king!!!!

You realize there was the pressing fee to cover (which preorders didn't actually cover due to a funny oversight), legal fees (trademark/copyright), hosting fees, shit like that.   Convention space.  Paying the art doodlers, etc.

If you think this is a profitable business, you are a frigging retard.

As for Windy, I'm not lying.  I told him you were a dick because of what you did. He wasn't aware and asked "what did roy do", and he said "yeah that is shitty" after I explained.  I didn't delete the other thread, I just locked it. It's probably still here somewhere.  If it's deleted, I sure didn't do it.  Maybe a moderator removed it because we don't need that many threads of you poorly defending yourself and trying to turn it all around on me like I'm the bad guy.

If Windy says I'm lying, whatever, don't really care.  Wouldn't blame him.  I wouldn't wanna piss you off locally.  You might go all ARMY STRONG and pull out your glock and start shooting.

Though, maybe thats not a big deal since we all know you aren't a straight shooter.

also, I find it funny you are trying to attack ME like I have done something wrong.  Thats like the worst backpedal fail ever.  You can attack me and say OH THIS WASNT A COMMUNITY EFFORT.  YOU JUST WANTED TO PROFIT.

If I just wanted money, believe me, I would find a better way to do it than sit up for 8+ hours for 3-5 nights a week for an entire year pro-bono, until press time, to sell 50-100 copies of a game.... while still working, and attending college.

I think anyone else would be more than happy to point out that it sure is a community oriented thing.  I mean, going and demoing at conventions, passing out free copies for it to get reviewed in magazines and spread around...

hidden demos/community involvement w/ playtests etc....

a new development tool for music making....

I mean I could keep going if you still think this wasn't geared towards giving the Turbo community some good stuff.

Uh, why does Ark have to defend making "profit" from the game?  And seriously, let's be super, duper, generous and consider $25 x 500 = $12,500 to be pure profit (though it isn't -- it's revenue), $12.5k for a year's programming work isn't jack shit.

Be more realistic, and take away half of that for overhead expenses, and $6000-$7000 for a year's programming work?  One can make way more money working those equal hours at a McDonalds.

Here's a better idea -- instead of a not doing a signature edition at all, how 'bout signing ALL copies?!  I really do like the personal touch of having the creator's signature on the game, and I'd imagine the signature moves more copies then not having one. and on top of that, it hardly costs you (Ark) any more effort (as long as you're distributing it yourself).  And if they're all signed, there can't be any price gouging like this one later on.
