still 5 mins left and closing in on >17000 yen.  That is $200 and counting... .makes me glad to have snagged mine for 12000 yen a few months back..

NecroPhile

This one is self-inflicted gouging: $171.60 for twelve empty boxes (Air Zonk, Alien Crush, Blazing Lazers, Bloody Wolf, Bomberman, Cadash, Final Zone II, Last Alert, Neutopia II, Ninja Spirit, Silent Debuggers, and Valis II).  That works out to $14.30 apiece for fucking cardboard!

That's pretty insane what the final price came too...i'm not accusing the bidder of helping the seller boost the price...but serously???  1st bid at 70BUCKS??!?!?!?!? hahaa, man....

henrycsc

The boxes got relisted becasue the first buyer backed out after they realized games weren't included.  I saw the listing before any bids were on it, so I emailed and offered the guy $40 because the boxes would help me complete some of my copies.  Never dealt with the seller before... this was the response I got, enjoy the laugh:

"Dear henrycsc,

Yeah I had to relist them cause the lame ass fucking flake of a loser winning bidder "vgcollector2002" doesnt know how to read a fucking description and assumed it was games as well as the boxes, so needless to say he changed his mind and bluntly told me he has no intention of paying. As for your offer, I am gonna politely decline, thanks though, I prefer to let them run their course and hope for an actual bidder who has common sense and will read the description as well as pay as intended since by bidding it is a binding contract. I also sent out a second chance offer to the 2nd highest bidder which was at $167ish and he seemed to have a real genuine interest. I need $171.69 to pay a bill, so im really just hoping the 2nd highest bidder will just accept 2nd chance offer and then i can end this listing. So unfortunately $40 is to low and wont get me close to paying my citi financial bill. Sorry, thanks for asking though! I do appreciate you asking!

I don't blame him, I'm sure he expects to pull in $100+ if he lets the auction run.

I will say he was fairly nice in his response to you, not the typical "Screw you I'm gonna get a bajillion monies for these!"

henrycsc

Yeah, just kinda silly to respond like he did at all - a simple "No" would have sufficed.  Mighta chased away a potential customer - I didn't bid.  Obviously the mysterious second bidder didn't pay up either.

Plus, judging from the condition they appeared in the pics, they weren't worth much more than what I offered - but with the crazy ebay world - who knows.

Anyhow, money in hand is better than promised money that never arrives.

That seller is actually a member on this forum.  Have you considered that maybe he answered you that way because he noticed your name and were a member here?  That's what I'd put my money on.

The guys got a bill to pay and is getting rid of some stuff to help cover it (according to him).  He didn't gouge, he let it run a full auction.  $3.33 a box for boxes like Air Zonk, Neutopia II, Cadash and Bomberman?  Those 4 alone are worth more than your $40 offer. Some people may disagree with that statement, but those are also the people who don't tend to collect boxes (which most people here don't).  Personally I think your offer of $40 was to low also and I can't blame him for saying no.
All is well. :)

$13.77 per game is a bit high for a big lot, but at least the bundle isn't bloated with digital comics, dating sims, and sports titles.

Man that is a dumb, but also Nintendo America was focking dumb for forcing the good "Dream Factory" famicom game into a Mario game that became known as this Mario 2 in the U.S.  They never did release the challenging but fun "real" Mario 2 from JP, where there are poisonous mushrooms and all.  that was a good one compared to the Dream Factory fake Mario..

I have the real Mario 2 on FDS and I must say, Mario USA (English Mario 2) is a much better game.  FDS Mario 2 has some really sadistic level design, like a trick warp on level 8-1 that takes you back to level 5-1.  Simply Evil!  These tricks were great, however they ruined it all with terrible control.  Mario and Luigi both lack what the other has, and the control is just horrid because of it.  Most of my deaths are due to poor control, which makes the game just trial and error over and over until you learn the correct speed and place for each jump.  It just makes the whole game a boring chore really.  While Mario USA is both challenging AND fun. :)
Stronger Than Your Average Deadite

SignOfZeta

I prefer the "real" Super Mario 2, but its pretty easy to see why NOA gave us something else, and why when it was re-released in Japan as Super Mario USA it was quite popular: because Mario 2 is fucking HARD!

nat

Super Mario Bros. 2 (USA) is the best Mario game, hands down, followed closely by the 4th one on SNES. Not only is the JP Mario 2 hard in a stupid way (as mentioned above), graphically and aurally it's virtually identical to the first game. They didn't improve a damn thing in these departments, which is unbelievable for a game that was released a full year later. I've always maintained that Mario 2 (JP) feels like the result of someone giving a 16-year old a level editor for Mario 1 and telling him to "Edit the levels in Super Mario Bros. so the game is as difficult as possible," with no regard for actual good level design.

I don't know how this thread turned into Mario 2...  but I like it!

I always hated Mario 2 when I was younger.  I also really enjoyed the lost levels when it first came out.

Then a few years ago I picked up a Famicom Disk System for the first time, with Doki Doki Panic.  When playing the game without Mario in it, it helped me realize that it really was just a very good game.  I had blindly hated the game for years, not because it was bad, but rather because it didn't feel "Mario" enough.

Now I am actually a bit of a Mario 2 addict.  I played through and beat Doki Doki, Mario USA, Mario 2 NES, and Super Mario Advance (which is the definitive version).  Other than Super Mario World and Mario 64, Mario 2 is my favorite in the series.

...Mario 2 Japanese version on the other hand?  Yuck...  just makes me mad to play it now.

Susi Sumo's prices are often horrible. I've never bought a thing from him. Once I asked him if he had a KOEI save-kun... he didn't find one right away, but eventually he listed a loose one for like $65 .... which I thought was a lame move.

JapanTokei

lol, sorry I am the culprit for making this a Mario conversation, but last comment.  I do love the original "Dream Factory" aka USA MArio 2.  But it felt awkward to see the characters I knew had been replaced by the Mario characters in that game when I moved to America....

Mario 3 though was the best in the series in my opinion.. so creative and ahead of its time.  I was showing the Fami cart off at school like 1 year before it was released in the States to my friends.  The kids were going nuts.  I thought I was so cool on that day.. lol.  Our teacher was focking cool, he even arranged to let me bring in my Famicon and the kids had extended recess break.  man 1989-1990 was a good year :)

I am glad I region modded my Duo. Most games are perfectly fine in JP, such as Splatter House, Air Zonk, Bonk 3, and other games with little or none text in them. I love my JP only releases like some of the Soldier series, SF2 CE and Bomberman 94.

The BIN on that DH does seem excessive. But in all fairness in the last thread some were talking about the previous DH auction that ended at ~$440 (via bids) and I believe a few of us agreed that the price was a "value" relative to Magical Chase considering DH is much more difficult to find.

SignOfZeta

IMG

TGX16

But $440.00 is totaly madness if you ask me! I'm a simple guy with a simple job and a simple salary I could'nt pay that kind of money for ONE game even if I wanted too!!!
Bidding over 100-150.00 for any game is out of the question as far as I'm concerned.

SignOfZeta

The troubling thing is that people will actually say that because it went for $440 last week, that a BIN that is more than half again as much is somehow a good price. This is how these prices get so out of control so quicky. Why not double the price? Tripple! It its worth $1000, it must be worth $2000, right?

This game is, what, 16 years old? And for the first 13-14 years of its uber rare existance it was less than $100. Now, all of the sudden $777 is fair?

And all this while the JP version is like...$35 or something. For the extra $750 you could actually hire a translator to play through the whole game with you, and then you wouldn't be at home by yourself all day.
