12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

Is $60 US a good price for a turbo?

a local shop got one in, so i figured i'd ask here.
It's got all the cables and controllers, as well as the back cover, and it's in decent shape.
in addition, they have a turbo express for $118, but i think the caps might be going bad, i can see some corrosion on the battery coils.

so, question is:  are they worth it?

BlueBMW

seems a bit on the high side for both.  Or maybe my views on values have dropped with all the freebies I've tossed around :P  If I had a spare turbo I'd send it your way.  I've only got one extra right now and its headed for turbografxfan already :(
[Sun 23:29] <Tatsujin> we have hard off, book off, house off, sports off, baby off, clothes off, jerk off, piss off etc

bartre

geez, you really are a generous man.
btw, i just installed that region mod board you sent me.
working like a charm!
thanks loads man!

i bought a tg16 around 2003 for $60... even then i thought it was alot.... but it was my first, i dont regret it

Probably better off getting a lot on ebay with some games.  For less than $100 shipped, you can probably get a TG16 and 10 games.  If you buy 10 games at the local shop, will you be charged more than $40?

hoobs88

I think they typically go for $40-$50 for a Turbo Grafx System and $80-$100 for Turbo Express so those figures are a little high but at least you don't have to wait for them to be shipped. Instant gratification.

I paid $22 for my turbo with one controller and an AC adapter and Keith Courage. No RF, which was $7 more. \

Less than 3 months ago on eBay.

In a store, that's a fair price. You can get one cheaper elsewhere.

To most of us here though a plain TG-16 is pretty worthless for anything but collecting, or playing must-have US Hucards, which there aren't many of. What I mean is, if you are only going to have one NEC system, the TG-16 isn't the best. Its not the 2nd or 3rd or 4th best either. Things would be different if the CDROM2 attachment wasn't so hard to find and unreliable.

Too much monies, but what shop did you find it at?  It's always nice to hear of Turbobs in the wild.

I agree with get a Turbo Grafx 16 with a game bundle, probably get the best deal. $118 is way too much for the express, I got one 5-6 months ago on ebay for $30 but it needed a sound cap replaced, which is super easy and cheap if you follow the directions in the repair section here.

Maybe to some Zeta but  "Once you go black you never go back" :P

NOTE: I wanted one as i kid so that is where my love for the TG16 comes from so don't always shit on it, we are not all crazied collectors.

There's a shop near me in Worcester, MA that has/had a TG16 with power supply, two pads w/tap, a TurboBooster w/AV cables, and two chips (I think Keith Courage and Vigilante) for $120. I seriously thought about buying it, but I just didn't need anything in that bundle.

That said, I also think $60 is a fair (but slightly high) price for the TG16, if it's as you described and actually works. Make sure there's no bent/broken pins behind that expansion port cover. And the benefit to buying from a store is that if something doesn't work, there's someone you can bring it back to, unless they're unprofessional so-and-sos.

Arkhan Asylum

theyre usually like 35-40$ in stores by me.

I picked up a spare one w/ cables and keith for 40$... so... for me 60$ is too high
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

The thing with owning a used game shop is that you want to have this balance between what you are selling and what's in stock. On paper, obviously, you'd like to sell everything you stock, but in reality that just leaves you with an empty store that no retrogamer would ever be impressed with. So you overcharge for some stuff so that you'll have cool things around that make your store look good. But what do you do with a TG-16? In many parts of the country a shop is going to get one of these traded in every other year. Do you sell it on eBay for $30 (what its actually worth) or do you keep it around to class the place up? Solution: middle ground - charge more than its worth, but not a totally insane price. If it doesn't sell, oh well, it adds character since this will be the only shop in town that has one. If it sells, that's good too since its going for twice what its worth.

Yeah, I was debating picking it up anyways, but since i just got the mod done on my duo-r, then I have no use for it.
still, cool to see some turbo stuff locally.

it's funny though, the manager there was super impressed with the fact that they got them in, and was debating buying them himself, he was all but trying to talk me out of buying the system..

I just picked up a complete in box T-16 yesterday at our local indoor flea market the guy wanted $80 but i did a even trade with him for a old Odyessy2 i had with some games. I was pretty happy with the deal but not for sure if i would of paid $80 for it boxed or not.

Just need to get some games off my "wish list" for it and i will be set.  :D

I think you got the better deal x4.

Yeah, even a spare TG-16 will get more play than an Odyssey 2. That thing was less fun than grandma's menstrual belt.

It wasn't that terrible and i did actually like the system but i just like the Turbografx-16 better.

Killer Bees was the only game that I actually remember having fun playing.

I traded my boxed Odyssey 2 and about 5 games (3 sealed) in 2002 for an Atari 2600 Jr. that had an easily fixable power issue.

The Odyssey was the most anticlimactic system I have ever owned.
