Ditto.  I can understand where you're coming from on some points - the internet is nice if you're a casual gamer and don't care about the real stuff.  But if you actually want to continue playing your system it sucks.  Better times to be a PCE fan:  2 years ago when Magical Chase was $200 instead of $600, five years ago when a functional U.S. Duo was $150, a sealed new one $500, and a broken one $40 (now $400, $2000, and $150 respectfully), or twelve years ago when there weren't any games over $100.

Twelve years ago is also twelve years ago. It was hard enough finding Turbo stuff when it was current. It's bullshit how some assholes have manipulated the market and how people who don't care just play along. But this isn't like action figures or stamps or anything collectible that has skyrocketed in value, which was originally dirt cheap at retail. I spent $1200 - $1500 getting a Turbo CD bitd. My Duo and Express were were $500+. I think that my TG-16 was $400+ + $50 to get it fixed. I probably bought about 80 Turbo games at around $70 a piece. It's safe to say that I spent around $8000  on Turbo/Duo stuff during the nineties (as a teenager).

Turbo stuff as opposed to PCE is simply a luxury today. Even if you have an old Duo or Turbo CD, it's still dirt cheap in the long run to buy a Duo R/RX and hundreds of practically free PCE games. Even if you stick with a Turbo CD system, you can still play cheap PCE CD versions. There is only a handful of games worth getting the English version for. Genesis players don't insist on buying the identical Japanese versions of games that cost $100+ when the Genesis version goes for $10.

It may seem like we've got it rough, but, unless you're looking for shrinkwrap or CIB, there are only about a dozen U.S. games that sell for more than the original retail price.  Paying forty bucks for a used, eighteen-year-old game without the box like Neutopia 2 sucks, but we probably all make more money than when Toys R' Us stocked it for the same amount.  I know that this is obvious and of small consolation:  the prices are inflated and the games should be cheaper.  Still, it's a good reality check to keep in mind.

While I don't think things are as bleak right now as some believe, I stop far short of calling this a golden age.  I reckon Ebay prices for U.S. stuff have gone up 50% in the last few years and it's absurd.  I have a real problem with people who treat video games as an investment, tracking how much they paid for games and refusing to take a "loss" when it comes time to sell.  There's a lot of schmucks around right now who refuse to take whatever the market will bear and believe that it's their God-given right to make money because a couple of years have elapsed.  Never mind depreciation and never mind that, even from an investor's viewpoint, collectables are more volatile than the stock market.

Your BitD price comparisons are interesting, but the Canadian dollar is MUCH better now than it was in Nineties.  Back then, Canada was a terribly expensive place to be a TG gamer.

I've mentioned that before about VGA graded games. Who's to say VGA isn't emptying the contents, replacing with something else to match the original weight, re-sealing, and returning? They get a free game, and get paid a stupid amount of money to do it. Nobody would every crack one back open AND cut into a seal to find out.

Dunno if it has a battery or not, but I -think- they used flash chips (re-programmable eeproms), so I doubt the games go 'Ka-Pufff'

Likely. My SNES import adapter got pulled... I was lucky enough to buy on ebay, an NES powerpak and a Japanese Saturn the listing says is CD-R modded. Hope these work right when they arrive.

Speaking of ebay I'd noticed there are more copies of Stadium Events for sale than Turbografx CD drives now. When the heck did that attachment suddenly become so difficult to acquire? Only like a year or two ago IIRC you could at least find broken ones from time to time. I guess it doesn't matter for me though.
