No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Samurai Ghost

Hey guys, first post in the forum so hopefully it's not a total disaster. I've been lurking here for a few weeks until my registration got approved.

I recently got into PC Engine collecting when I bought a PC Engine Core Grafx in early September. Then I went kind of crazy. In less than two months I've also bought a PC Engine GT, a working boxed Duo (first gen), another Core Grafx/CD-ROM2 suitcase combo, and around 100 HuCard games (including about a dozen duplicates). CD games are alright but there is just something about the HuCard games when it comes to the lack of loading times, chip-tune audio, and genres of games featured on them. I'm crazy about them!

Right now I live in Japan so it's easy for me to get cheap PC Engine stuff (including a bunch of new, sealed games that I happily cracked open), but I might be moving back to the States in spring. So before I leave I want to buy all the HuCard games I could possibly want. So, looking at what I've collected so far, is there anything that seems to be missing? I can't seem to think of much else I should buy at this point. I love shooters obviously, especially cute-em-ups and anything with a Japanese theme, as well as any games with horror/ghost/yokai themes or anything set in ancient/feudal Japan.

Please check out my list and tell me what you think! I know there are some stinkers in there but they came with some auction lots:

The real question is, what dupes do you want to sell me?  =)

Don't move ;-)  I live in the UK and PCE stuff costs a bomb, especially the shipping!

PunkCryborg

you have to logout of your pcedai acct and link to you member name otherwise itll just link us to the main page

RR1980

wow lucky guy being able to buy all that pce goodies in a month! before you go you probably should buy some extra pads and sticks and any hardware if you can find a good deal on like a shuttle/LT/SGX. As for what you said about cd games is it because you haven't gotten to the really good ones yet like Drac X/Spriggan/Nexzr?  but yeah for sure the hucard being as small as it is it sure has the ability to output some awesome game play like Solider Blade, PC Denjin!

First, I want to say I totally understand how you feel on this one.  Back in the day it was the CD games that got me hooked, but now the HuCards seem so much cooler to me.

Having said that, I think that if you are feeling good on your HuCard collection (it certainly sounds good), then you might want to load up on a few choice CD games and, as RR1980 says, hardware.  Those are also going to be harder to get a hold of once you leave, and you may get into them someday.  If not, you can always sell them to the rest of us!  ^_-

Samurai Ghost

Damn, sorry, here's my collection:

As for hardware I'm pretty much set but I'll probably pick up some more stuff before I leave, like a DUO-R/RX. I've got some new boxed controllers and other accessories but I'll keep my eye for some deals to pass on to you guys at some point. I'd spring for an LT or an SGX if I can find them at a good price, and the shuttle is pretty cheap to buy out here but it's just not appealing to me. As for CD software, I do want a few choice games like DracX, Spriggan, etc., but right now I really just want to fill out my HuCard collection. I really like cart-based software and I have a great collection of carts for various systems (mostly Sega stuff).

And once I get back to the states I'll put up a list of my dupes for sale at reasonable prices and maybe some hardware too.

I didn't see Super Star Soldier listed - being a shooter fan you might want that one. Also maybe Gradius and/or Salamander.  Pick up extras of those last two and I'll try to buy them off you when you get to the states! :P

Here are a few you dont have yet:

Mr heli
Makai hakkenden Shada
War of the dead
Gekisha boy (photograph boy)
Genji tsushin agadema

If youre going to get into cd games, grab some of the great ones that will be overpriced here:
Nexzr
Image fight 2
Dracula x

Samurai Ghost

Thanks for the suggestions! Gekisha Boy is one I've been wanting to get but it's pretty expensive even out here. I might just grab a loose card for $20 just to play it but I'd like a complete copy if possible. A new sealed copy went for around $90 recently. Parasol Stars is another one I want to get that tends to be a little spendy.

JapanTokei

I have a complete Gekisha i might be willing to sell.  If ur still around JP in january i will have my friend bring it back after her visit in december and mail it locally.

Samurai Ghost

Well I'm sure I'll be able to find one for a decent price eventually but I'm looking to spend around 2000 yen on a copy, so if that sounds OK to you then by all means!

NecroPhile

Welcome!  If ya can get 'em for a good price, here are a few titles that I wouldn't pass up: Fantasy Zone, Parodius, Aero Blasters, Bomberman '94, Battle Lode Runner, Don Doko Don, Parasol Stars, Dead Moon, Son Son II, Mr. Heli, Side Arms, Magical Chase (lulz), Batman, Columns, Hatris, and a Tennokoe Bank and Arcade Card Duo (or Pro) for when you get a Duo (or briefcase).

Magical Chase
Mesopotamia
R-type 1 -2 (or CD complete version)

CD
Snatcher
Cho Anaki
CHŌ JIKŪ YŌSAI MACROSS 2036
Efera and Jiloria
It is what it is and it will be what it will be!

blowback

I'm also fairly new to the PC Engine scene. And have a ton os Hu Cards on their way to me. Roughly about 150, and I know some are dupes, but they are cheap, and they don't take up much space. I love this system.

Samurai Ghost

Yeah, I love the format. I have over 100 HuCard games sitting in a neat little stack of binders, taking up the space of about 6 DVDs. So much greatness packed into a little space!

spenoza

I'm in the market for cheap PCE dupes. Especially free ones  ; )
