One place selling it online says its a reprint version. What exactly does that mean?
I have the original version, which one one would you say is more collectable?

There was / is no reprint version. No reputable dealer / seller would advertise an item in this manner, so I would not purchase any items from this individual.

The North American version goes for crazy amounts of $$$ on ebay and private sales/trades. It is the holy grail for U.S. HuCards, apparently (Dynastic Hero for SCDs). The Japanese Magical Chase HuCard is not nearly as expensive / difficult to find, but it is still a desirable PCE title (IMO, anyway).

The precise rarity of Magical Chase is undetermined (and up for debate), but most folks agree that the production numbers were relatively "low" (several of TTi's releases fall into this category).

Thanks for that, mines the jap one, i didn't realise the US one was worth more.

akamichi

If you're talking about the Japanese version, there was a reprint for the 5th anniversary of one of the PCE mags.  AFAIK, there's nothing different about the game itself.

The original release came in a standard (old) HuCard case, while the reprinted version came in the new clear CD style HuCard case.  There's also some text about the 5th Anniversary printed somewhere on the case or on the card... don't remember exactly.

Neither of the versions is worth any more than the other.

Now, if you're talking about the US version, then you might want to follow stevek666's advice.

Seldane

The reprint cover picture has a "frame" of sorts. The original release has a full cover picture. I think.
Quote from: Seldane on 04/21/2007, 07:28 PMDVDs are for suckers. Illegally pirated and stolen videos all the way. No menus. No "DO NOT PIRATE THIS!" screens. No fuss. Only perfection. I honestly only pirate movies because that "don't pirate this" screen annoys me.

Indeed, it's AV time. Check out: IMG! Sir, the door was open.

Kool, I didn't know about the Japanese reprint!

I stand corrected :)

even may it is a little bit more rare to find, the price in japan is almost equal to the regular release, between 10'000~13'000 yen.

Ahh, gotcha.

EDIT: While we are on the topic, does anyone know why they changed the first level graphics, or any other graphics and other changes, in the USA release? I can't say which level 1 I like better between the USA and Japanese version, they both look awesome in their own ways. I'm leaning a little towards the Japanese one with the cute blocks.

In the US version the colorful blocks that make the lower bridge in Level 1 are replaced with a more realistic looking bridge.  Several enemy sprites are different as well.

CrackTiger

The foreground and the mid background of the first stage were changed from colored bricks to a nice detailed castle wall, which I beleive better suits the background/sky and just plain looks better overall.

The third level's moving wooden floor and ceiling are brownish in the PCE version and not very detailed compared to the red floor/ceiling in the Turbo version which has been nicely shaded.

Jack's shop is a simple straight side view of a balloon in the PCE version, but in the Turbo version the balloon part is a 3/4 perspective of a nicely drawn and shaded jack o lantern and the rest of it is upgraded as well.

There are lots of other details that appeared to be changed as well, but I haven'y confirmed yet. I'm part way through making a comparison feature with screenshots and a few short side by side videos.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

That's another thing I was wanting to know. It's very interesting they made such a big, but no-so-important graphic changes to begin with. Do you think they actually got American artists to do the new graphics?

One other major change I forgot to mention is the logo at the title screen. Its plain and only a few colors in the PCE version, but 3D'ish and nicely shaded in the Turbo version. Also, the new mid-background in Stage 1 of the Turbo version reveals more of the back-background wich now adds several more colors to the gradient.

Anyways, I think that, for whatever reason, Quest made all the changes.

The U.S. version doesn't say TTI anywhere, it just went from Copyright Palsoft, Copyright Quest to only Quest.

The new art itself in the first level and the new Shop is amazing. Then it was transformed into Turbo/PCE graphics as well as the rest of the game was put together.

And who else but Quest would have the motivation to do this to an already perfect game?

Maybe they were forced to send out the PCE version before they got it to where they wanted it and they kept working on it.

Its still weird that the reprint didn't get the upgrades. Or maybe it did and the PCE rom everyone is using is from the originator. Does anyone have the reprint that they can fire up to see if it's at least color bricked or medeival castled?
