Hey guys been a while since I've been on.

I was so happy when I found out there was a CD version of Double dragon II that had extensive cut scenes. It'd be a perfect game to play co-op with my kid.

Then I was sooo bummed when I saw it was a spendy game :( I think I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and start selling some stuff to be able to get some of these more costly games... Sure it was a no brainer for Dracula X but Double Dragon is a harder sell.

Anybody else have this kind of sticker shock experience?

Bernie

Not really.  Its not that pricey of a game, IMO.  And, it is totally worth it.  I wouldn't sell my shit to get it though.  Just save your monies.  :)  Instead of buying a few average priced games, get one.

NecroPhile

The only sticker shock I've had is for silly stuff like Akiyama Jin or gotta-have-it-now-no-matter-what pricing for a few of the latter US titles.  I've never really been shocked or scared away from regularly pricey games - either they're worth it (to me) to have and play or they're not.

P.S. - $80 ain't all that bad.  Just think of it as one and a half PS3/360/Wii games, games that will be near worthless in a couple years when the DDII is still worth $80 (still fun too).

Thats like infinite money!

My only time I went WHTFHFTUCK like this was when I saw the price for Ultima II big box.  It was like 1.21 jiggadollars.
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

Profound Sadness? Agony? When I saw these as the top to threads I thought this was going to be another "some asshole fucked me over sale" begging for freebies.  Glad to see it's not.

Necro has a point: DD2 has been an $80 game for ten years and it's not about to do a Soldier Blade/Magical Chase/Beyond Shadowgate and go out-of-sight. Take your time, save some bucks, and hold on to your stuff. Kids grow up fast, but they don't care what system they're playing with their dad. Ninja Turtles or Rescue Rangers will hold him over.

I can't even remember what the NES/arcade music sounded like so I probably wouldn't notice. Good to get all your perspective that the game is worth it. Guess I'll save up.

C'mon, the music is the best part! I can see why other may hate it, the music is frickin' weird.

Personally IMO, if you want a better Double Dragon experience, just take the cash and pick up Double Dragon 1 for Genesis, pt 2 on Nes, and Return of Double Dragon for SFC, and play them back to back. You will probably still have cash left over, and if so, I give you permission to buy The Combatribes for Snes/SFC also to get that happy ending. DDII for Pce was a pretty good game, but honestly is not worth the current ebay asking price. You wont get your bang for the buck as it were, and to be flat out honest, the music is about as un-Double Dragon like as you can get, and the main characters punch animation is simply retarded and way over exaggerated. Naxat did bring a nice game to the table, but it's def not worth more then 40-50 bucks fun wise.

Tatsujin

For how much does it go nowadays?

I think the screams make it worth the extra $30-40, but then I'm kinda special.

Double Dragon II for the PCE only recently has risen. It is not really that great of a CD game, but for a DD fan it is pure auwsomeness. I know that people all remembers the NES/GB DD years, along with the animated series. It is truly the greatest and best of the home console vesions, but if you feel that it is too expensive then let it wait.

If you do not want to sell off anything, then don't. I wouldn't. Is it more then $200 dollars now? I have been seeing alot of PCE games rise in price in a short. For me it is not killing me not to get it immeditly. I dream playing DD II on the PCE, someday.

Double Dragon II is not that intresting then Strider......but they did it right. The prices are just the popularity of DD series. I think something was released :?:

Goddamn, Vestcunt is talking trash again?

I suppose you can judge for yourself by reading/listening to everything in the ancient STOP the HATE (Double Dragon II on PCE  thread from several moons ago.  :pcgs:

I should point out, however, that the Red Book in Double Dragon II is even more enjoyable when experienced playing the game. So, please reserve your final judgement until after your cruise.

I won't try to find my defense of the R-Type Red Book (well, not yet, anyway).

BONUS: If anyone knows the names of the actual songs, I would love to know.

I think I am being modest when I say that Double Dragon II is worth $290 for the music alone  :pcgs:

Seriously. If you think about it, you are paying less than $0.80 USD a day (over the course of a year) to indulge in aural delights of exquisite design.

I don't think anyone would argue that $0.79 USD was too high of a price for Heaven.

Thanks for the link!  Listening to the music as I type. :)

I wish I could get the cut scenes on the NES game, that would be the perfect combo.

DD for master system is fucking tits on toast.

Really? I've never played it but most people seem to hate it. But I just bought it as a part of a lot so it should be here in the next day or two.

Personally I think DDII on PCE is my favorite game in the whole series! Really kick ass port, I love the graphics, music, and cinemas!

DD 1 on SMS is the best thing outside of the original at the arcade.  I never had a SMS growing up, only a NES.  Since Double Dragon was one of my most played arcade games, I also had it on NES, but every time I played it something felt off.

Years later when I got the SMS version, I realized I had been missing out.  It is my favorite early port of the game, hands down.

The Genesis port of DD1 is the best port by far. DD II on Mega Drive isn't too bad either, as far as direct arcade ports goes, but it definitely has flaws. DD II for Nes was just really well balanced and it let the Nes strut its stuff with some really solid graphics and tight controls. The music and story scenes for Nes were top notch too. Could just be me, but it seems like whenever I have run DD and DD II on Mame the emulation suffers slowdown that was not on the actual arcade game pcb. Its bad enough to make me not want to play the two at all on Mame.

I recently got the SMS version of Double Dragon and really dig it.  I had a Master System bitd, but sold it to get a TG-16, so never amassed much of a collection for it.  Lately I've been picking up games for the system that slipped through the cracks for me, and DD was one of them.  It's pretty sweet!  Yes, there's a lot of flickering, but it's 2 PLAYER!  The hit detection takes some getting used to; it's pretty wonky.

I normally prefer SMS ports, but on DD I'm not so sure. I rented the NES version once when I was young and didn't think much of it. Recently, I played it again after years of owning the SMS cart and was pleasantly surprised. The NES music is really good and the graphics are sharper. SMS DD is a nice two-player, but the flicker and slowdown are a serious problem.

I like the NES version as well.  It's just too bad it wasn't a 2 player game. Same with Riot Zone.

Wanna talk about Double Dragon popularity? It was so auwsome, it had it's own television series. A whole series about a couple of gang punks from another beat em up series, but in America. Why not call it "Bad Arse's From Japan: IN AMERIKA???" or even Bad Dudes from Japan: In America???

Lets think. Billy and Jimmy venture to gangland USA, to make freinds with the neighborhoods fluffer, when she is kidnapped and taken hostage. Double Dragon goes out on a rampage. Then the second game, she is somehow a college graduate reporter??? who is killed, and they go on a revenge spree??? Then afterwards ( the downhill ) they reunite with their former villians, to take on an chinese ancient timish foe???

The one thing I will love about this series, is the one animation I remember watching, ( which spawn one fighting game on the Genesis ).
So yeah Double Dragon, did what Strider, and Startropics failed to do,
Generate a US audience that is familiar with it.

Now let me say it. If Double Dragon movie was done, would it be watchable??? Lets think, no gangland USA, no normal looking square 80's and 70's cars, no big buff guys walking on set, or pornstar/models with nice hair. It would be like TNMNT's film being filmed in modern manhattan.
A bland, boring world, with no logic.

Lets remember TNMNT vs Double Dragon, vs Battle Toads, vs Fatal Fury,
vs GON? Who would win

In a post apocolypic world where the badguys from Battle Toads and TV double dragon would team up............we would throw in Shendue from Jackie Chan, maybe this could work.

I actually liked the NES version a lot better, but that's based on my memories (as opposed to a scientific side-by-side comparison).
