No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

SO i may be purchasing a super famicom complete with the box, manual, 2 controllers, power supply, av cable, s-video cable. Me and the guy are trying to work out a deal. I really have no idea what this things go for. Do you guys have any info on this?

Also this isn't one of those threads to try and find a price for something so i can later sell it. I'm buying it to use and to add to my collection

Here is the deal. The GBA bundle includes LOZ ages and seasons, metroid 2, wario land and a few other games.

Very nice Super Famicom system with the box, manual, 2 controllers, power supply, av cable, s-video cable. - $100
- Akumajo Dracula XX / Castlevania Dracula X(cart only) - $38
- GBA bundle - $60
- GC Bundle - $28
- Shipping - $40 (Expedited Parcel USA with tracking number and full insurance, very well packed)
Total: $100 + $38 + $60 + $28 + $40 = $266. If you take everything, I'll throw in that $20 Casltevania 4 for free, how about that ?

Lmk

Thanks !

RegalSin

$50-$200 shipped usually. The same for an incomplete SFC.

$10.  SFC has to be the most common console in Japan.  You can trip over the damn things.

Yeah im thinking of just dropping the SFC and modding my SNES to play the castlevania games. save me $100

roflmao

Modding the system probably makes more sense, but you can also mod the cartridges.  I've never done it myself, but I won a couple Super Famicom shmups off ebay not too long ago, and when they arrived they had little areas drilled out of the carts to fit in an unmodified SNES.  Neat.  I already had a converter (that I paid a small fortune for back when Street Fighter II was released in Japan) which I was planning on using.  Only recently did I find out it's just a couple of small tabs that separates the different regions.

munchiaz

Indeed. So i may just mod it, and save my $100 for something else

I don't own an SFC. I'll admit that the SFC is what I remember drooling over pictures of in Nintendo Power mags when I was a kid, and a couple years back I wanted one, but ended up skipping it. If it was easy to play US carts on it, I would have one because it's unique and looks way cooler than the US SNES.

But the SNES mod to let you play SFC carts takes just a couple minutes and is free. And pretty much invisible.

And, were there any JP-only Castlevania games? I only know of SC4 and XX both of which were released in the US.

SuperDeadite

Only those two.  But 4 was censored in the USA.  The "green slime" level is a total "red blood" level in the JP version.

That's basically right, but even here you have to put some more cash on the counter to get a CIB system with s-Vid cable. hell even lose sfc pads (non junk) going for 10 bucks with ease.

Exactly.  Take a sturdy pair of needle-nose, grab those pesky grey tabs that sit at the bottom of the cart slot, in the rear.  Thats where the grooves on the SNES carts sit down on.  Work the tabs back and forth, and they break off.  Its that simple.  You dont even have to take it apart.

Yes i do thanks to Blue, and i love it.

Nando

if you must absolutely buy the SFC for the looks, you could always take out the US PCB carts and insert them sans the case. That is, if you don't want to get an adapter or "modify" (read:tear up) the SFC.

bartre

While i agree that the SFC looks nicer, it's just not worth it to ship one over here for me.
cut/dremel/snap off the tabs and you're all set!
that's how I play Sailor Moon.

The SFC is without a doubt prettier.

Considering the difference between a SFC and a UK SNES .......
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... man just thinking if nintendo took that deal with sony. I wonder what the industry would be like today. I think it was be much better, and not so saturated with cash grab BS shovel ware

I seriously doubt it.  The big N has always been a total control freak, so Sony would have had limits I am sure.   I think we got the better situation by Sony just going out on their own.  :)

munchiaz

Sony did help bring games more to the mainstream which is a good and bad thing IMO

Yeah, but if you don't live in Japan that info is useless. If anyone on eBay will ship you a SFC from Japan, it isn't going to be $10, and shipping is $30-60. This is why a complete SFC in the US goes for about $100.

And yeah, if you just want to play the games cut the tabs out of a SNES (which you also can't get for $10) which takes, litterally, 20 seconds to do. However, if you actually like SFC (few people here) you might want a system that is %90 less crap looking than a US SNES.

GohanX

I gotta admit, I did get a "new" (it wasn't) Super Famicom just because I was sick of my SNES's turning yellow, and it just plain looks cooler. SFC's can discolor as well, but it's far less common. Cost me like $70 I think?

The "new" system had some issues, so I bought a beat to hell dirty system for like $15 and swapped motherboards.

Samurai Ghost

I got my SFC for 300 yen at a recycle shop and I agree that they are beautiful, well-built systems.
Suruga has boxed systems for 2,280, but shipping would more than double that.

You can sometimes find SNES's for 10$ around here.

Usually its 20 though

I explored the purchase page with google translater- Eventually, I was given two options: "stomach" or "no".

Nando

can't you use like a gamegenie or something to play US games on a JP console?

GohanX

Kinda. The Game Genie is too large for the SFC's slot, but you can cut/grind the bottom of the Game Genie to fit. Personally, I just ordered a "Universal Adaptor" from consolegoods.uk, it works great.
