Has anybody ever played through the RPG quest of Final Lap Twin?
I started it once, years ago, didn't get very far and hung it up, never to look back. So to be honest, I dont even know if it qualifies as an RPG, but it appeared to. Anyway, is it worth playing through?

Samurai Ghost

I did the same... The game was just too boring to bother with but I have an extremely short attention span for stuff like that.

roflmao

It's actually not a very long game.  I've beaten it at least twice, but the last time I completed it was '97 or '98 so my memory of the ending is a bit fuzzy. :)

I recently started it up again and beat the first 2 or 3 bosses before moving on to something else, but I intend on completing it again one of these days.

CrackTiger

I love FLT's RPG mode. It a lot of fun if you can appreciate it. FLT's arcade mode is also great.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

kiketonto

I only play arcade mode.
One day maybe. Not good at driving games.

I have completed every mode/quest this fine game has thrown at us.

It is certainly worth playing through if you, like me, get pissed off when you lose a race due to a moment of carelessness and are determined to have another go at it.

For other folks, the frustration and/or tedium level will get too high. So be it.

Final Lap Twin is certainly an enjoyable (if simplistic) RPG. I actually prefer this sort of RPG (with arcade segments determining progress), so...I may not be the typical RPG fan.

Speaking of Final Lap Twin,  I made a short gameplay video yesterday showing the RPG portion of this neat little game.
It's kind of slow because I'm just starting off and the car sucks to begin with and I didn't remember the placement of the ramps as well as I thought I would, but it picks up by the end.

Bernie

I loved the RPG side of this game!  Its what made the game fun for me.

T2KFreeker

Final lap Twin is so cool just in the fact that it is so different from anything else that was releasing at the time. Well worth the time to beat it. I may be remembering it being much more amazing these days than it was back when, but I am sure it is still a very cool game.
END OF LINE.

I was pretty surprised by the quality of the RPG mode when I played it in the 90s.  I assumed that it would suck, so I didn't play that mode until I had the game for a while... when I did play it, it was quite fun.  Some of the later races were pretty challenging and unlike any RPG or racing game I had played before... it felt pretty satisfying to win the final race!

Overall, Final Lap Twin provided a lot of bang for the buck... either racing that evil Benson  , racing a friend, and playing the RPG mode.

T2KFreeker

You know what's really funny about all of this is that I really didn't get interested in this game until it got cancelled from the pack in release for the Turbo Duo. Initially I got the game so I could see what the big deal was. I'm really glad I got to play it though because it seems like quite a bit of time when crap like this happens, the game is rubbish whereas this was a good game. Example, look at the controversy that Night Trap caused. Not the worst game ever, but still really not as good as the sales would have you believe.
END OF LINE.

Final Lap Twin's RPG seems nice, but I don't like the 2D era of racing games (though I'm not a huge racing fan regardless).

CrackTiger

If Final Lap Twin was a SNES game by Nintendo, it would sell for $100+ loose on eBay.

I love the localization, right down to the useless password hidden on the overworld map. :P

Ha! What did this password do in the PCE version of the game?

I don't recall even noticing anything about this when I played it back in the day. :pcds:

There is a spot, way out of the way, at the top of a continent, that you have to swim around to. It's the kind of spot that I always look for in RPGs, to search for hidden items, rare monsters, etc. When you search at the end of it, you get a password. Which does not work. Maybe it did in the Japanese version. I remember checking it out in the PCE version, but I don't remember it working.

Ha! I think I do remember the island, because I, too, get anal with exploring every nook and cranny of a game.

BUT, more importantly, WE MUST FIND OUT WHAT THE PASSWORD was intended to do!

We must.

This is the sort of thing that I love to find out about.

Thanks, B_T IMG
