I got a PC GT power supply ( a universal one from http://gamedoctorhk.com/) which is 100-240v, which is good because I am in Australia, but after about 15 minutes it died on me, and I know it is not the console because all the caps  have been replaced and works fine with batteries and a univeral power supply, which when you move it slightly is turns off, so I don't want to use that as I don't want to wreck the best handheld out there. Is there any alternatives, places where you can buy them or anyone on here who has or who could make a power supply. And I am assuming that the GT and TurboExpress can use the same power supply. :?

thesteve

your correct about the TE and GT being the same.
as to the move it and it dies, you may have a dirty/tarnished power jack on your GT

Bernie

Check here.  Very reliable, and quality products.  Looks like he has something in the works for the GT and Express.

I saw that website when I was looking for one, I will be getting one off him when they are in stock.

I just use a universal one that I bought from walmart like 10 years ago. If you do buy a universal just make sure it has at least 500MA because a turbo express OEM adapter puts out 700ma. Any lower than 500ma won't cut it. My adapter runs fine at 7.5V with 500ma.

thesteve

i tested my TE power usage years ago and it was 600ma on larger games
lower on some

I would not buy from gamedoctorhk.com, I just got my gt modded with the lcd, region and av out, and when I used their psu the picture on the tv was all fuzzy and when I tried to press run it resets itself like it would when you press run+select, cheap and nasty rubbish. When I used batteries and a universal psu it works fine. A few years ago I bought a IFU 30+ CD ROM2+ PC Engine and he said that it was all perfect and the thing would not even power up and the condition was garbage when it was stated as 90-95% new and it was a hassle to get a refund.

I second Bernie's suggestion on retrogamecave.com.  He has AC adapters specifically for each of the NEC systems.  I picked one up for my Express awhile back and it even has a little sticker on it stating that it was made for the Express. It works great.

However, if you go that route, I'd also pick up an extension cable as the AC adapter's cord is only about 3 feet long, which is pretty dumb imo.

meka

I contacted Chuck and he said that he'll put one aside when he get's new stock. I saw a picture of the cord and it looks pretty long, if it's only 3 feet then the one I have is only a foot.

thesteve

i have one of his supplys here for a TG CD dock and the cord is about 2.5 feet

I want one of his supplies bad. he has not had them in stock that i can tell for almost a year. I have his site bookmarked and check it regularly, and have never seen them up for sale.

D'oh, I didn't realize they weren't in stock.  The one I ordered from him looks to be a different model than what's pictured on his site now.  I just measured mine and the cord is about 3.5 ft.  However the cable appears thicker than what is pictured and mine doesn't have a right-angle plug.  So it could be that the new version has a longer cord.

the ac adapter is all that i'm missing for my gt. I would not mind having a newer smaller one than the original.

A ps1 ac adapter (the small system) works fine when you swap the polarity. I posted about the mod i did a few years ago.

Its also nice because the wall plug folds in, very compact and lightweight? Also a new plug is required, but not too hard to do.

When you get a chance, throw that picture up. I bought a new soldering iron and will be getting the psone power supply soon.

Dude just ship it to me and i will wire it up. And if you send money i will deny it! :-)

ok I found the original post that I did:

Quote from: Duo_R on 12/12/2008, 12:14 AMOk,

really quick mod, I have like 4 sony wall chargers lying around. The Sony chargers are nice and slim, have the fold-up wall plug, my old TE adapter is bulky and the pins don't fold up. I needed something more efficient for traveling (I still have love for the TE charger) so what do I do?

Well the Sony outputs 7.5V and has enough amperage to power a TE. Even the polarity is correct, only the pin doesn't fit in the TE!

So hack off the connector tip, add one on that fits the TE (I used an old Belkin USB hub connector), verify that the negative line is on the outer part of the pin and you are good to go (nothing hard about this one). Next stop - hacking one of my extra PS1 car chargers for my first TE car adapter!!!

very important to get the polarity right or you will fry your TE. The 1/2 extra volt won't hurt your Turbo Express.

Polarity on the Turbo Express -

outer pin        ///            inner pin
 <->----------[o----------- <+>

7V,700mA <-----rule of thumb stay as close as possible to voltage, more amperage is ok (the system will only pull what it needs)

Note: I am not liable for damaging your Turbo Express. Mine works just fine, really important that you check polarity and make sure you don't short the wires and it will work just fine.
