Welcome.  You sound like you'll fit right in here. :D  My little guy is about to turn 4.

Greetings all! Name's Austin and I found this place while googling for a video fix for the Turbo Express  :D

I'm no stranger to retro gaming but I am a bit of a newbie to the TurboGrafx 16 and related consoles. I've heard about it for years but it was never high on my priority list(always been an NES kid) until recently. I finally managed to track one down for the right price about four months ago and I have completely fallen in love with this system! So much so that I've already acquired a second one and a Turbo Express, LOL. It's safe to say that this machine has jumped up in rank quite a few spots on my list of favorite consoles, and I'm sure it will only continue to climb higher as I acquire a CD ad on and/or a Turbo duo!

My collection is pretty small right now, consisting of only a handful of games, but I hope to build it up over the next few months with the help of this place! Games are pretty tough to find around these parts so I feel very fortunate to have what I have. Looking forward to jumping into some discussions, learning more about this fantastic line of systems and making new friends!  :D

Hello,

A couple of you guys have probably seen me pop here and there in this forum. However I thought i should introduce myself properly.
I am a 26 year old guy who knows probably way too much about video games for his own good. Unfortunately I have only experienced how awesome the PC engine is through emulation so far but I am working on getting me a console with all the bells and whistles at the moment. I found out about this awesome console through a friend. This whole thing has actually sparked a new found interest in old school consoles for me. Here is to hoping i get to make some good friends around here.
Good Sellers (in my experience)
Samurai Ghost, Keith Courage, Bernie, tggodfrey, bartre (hoping to add more to this list soon)

People who are just plain Awesome:
BlueBMW (to this day i thank you for hooking me up with Sapphire and getting me started with collecting PCE games)

Hey there,

I'm Joel and I come from some place far away. I recently decided to get into PC Engine after learning about the Sega arcade ports that they had (specifically After Burner which is one of my favorite games of all time) thanks to a guy named John Redmond, his friend Daryl, and a YouTube show they have called Game Bag. I bought a modded Turbografx-16 from another forum along with the fantastically underwhelming Keith Courage and the fun and playable Bomberman. After that I went on a game crazy bender and ordered a few more titles. I have these ones on the way, all of them are PC Engine versions since, hell, they are cheaper (and some only available in that format)

Space Harrier
After Burner
Doraemon (Cratermaze)
PC Genjin
Genpei Tomaden
Devil Crash
Dragon Spirit
Valkyrie no Densetsu

I am most excited for Devil Crash which was one of my favorite for the Genesis.

I mostly have been using this forum for educational purposes (as well as shopping, Valkyrie is being sold to me by a member here) but I thought I'd introduce myself so I don't look like some suspiciously quiet spam bot.

So hey.

Oh and I also bought Bloody Wolf...which rules.

Welcome, comrade :pcds:.

Yes, Bloody Wolf rules.

I personally think that the PCE/TG-16 version of Devil Crash is superior to the Genny version (Dragon's Fury), but I still like the Genny version. The soundtrack is killer, of course IMG

I think the port of Space Harrier is a blast to play. No, it isn't perfect, but there's something really nice of the PCE version. Hopefully you'll like it to.

I won't comment on the rest of the games, but suffice it to say you have a decent library to begin your PCE adventure. IMG

I have to agree so far on Devil Crash. I think the music sounds better for one thing, the skeleton laughing actually sounds like...well, I guess what a skeleton laughing should sound like. The bonus stages are nice too; I'm not really missing the snake coming out of the guys mouth, that was always a pain in the ass.

Space Harrier is a great port, and After Burner II is really impressive as well. Overall it has been a fun experience so far. I feel like I'm missing a lot sticking to HuCards, but there seem to be a lot of HuCards as well.

My name is Evilplayground, and I am a retro game addict.
I've been directed to this great site by a fellow member and collector, Sparky.  My NEC collection is teenie tiny as I've only just begun, but have a few thousand games ranging from RCA Studio II to PS3.

I found myself in a dusty thrift store off the beaten path one day and happened upon a boxed, seemingly complete Core Grafx machine in its original box.  Price tag; only $5.  SOLD.  I was giddy with my new find and took it home to inspect.  Of course, I've never had much luck in these matters and this occasion in particular proved the same.  It was 'retrofitted' with some bizarre PAL type modification and was utterly useless.  Then I looked at the controllers, where I noticed these weren't first party pads, oh no, they were something different entirely.  They look legit from a quick glance, but one might spot the little red switch on the side of these things along with the main logo being ever so slightly....wrong.

Dear ole Sparky assured me he could save my machine and my sanity and has since sent it for servicing to one of you fine fellows.  I have yet to see the final product, but man oh man, am I excited!

So, anyway, I hope to meet more enthusiasts and learn a great deal more on this unique manufacturer and all it has to offer.

Hey everyone, I'm new too.

I originally got a TG16 at launch, had a Duo in college, and recently have decided to return to this awesome machine. I went with a TG16 with the CD add on this time. I always wanted the CD add on as a kid, so it was a nostalgic decision. I've modded it with BlueBMW's mod board (thanks man!) and have an arcade card pro on its way to let me dive into super and arcade goodness.

I'm currently playing through Ys and trying to 1cc Aero Blasters.

I'm also big into the Neo Geo, and like to write my own games in my spare time as well.

So far this board is nice, seems like a good group.

Hello. I just made my first posts today after having been a member of the forums for a few months. Ive always been interested in PC Engine but never really got myself a system. I am now activly looking for a Core Grafx and have my eyes set on a couple of them which might become a purchase within a week.

My dream would be to purchase a modded and refurbished DUO-R from doujindance on ebay. Hopefully he keeps the systems coming like he has for years, for at least 6 months more, and ill be one of his customers. The way he cleans off the yellowing, replaces the laser unit and reinforces the I/O ports makes him my only choice, untill someone can do the same thing!

I have collected games, as a gamer, for over 20 years, and i enjoy most genre's except FPS's which i dislike like no other genre. Third person works fine though. My favourite system is 3DO, but i really dont have any "fanboy-syndrom" towards any system, of which i own 10ish different ones. The PC Engine seems like the next step when it comes to more specifically japanese style games, such as shootem ups, platform titles, puzzles and bomberman type games.

Ive actually picked up two games so far, without a way of playing them, Street fighter 2, and a dodgeball game ive already forgotten the name of, made by Naxat soft, along with the Hori Fighting Stick PC. Now all i need is a bloody system to play them...

So here i am!

NecroPhile

Welcome aboard, Jacob or Wilhelm.  Unless you really have your heart set on getting a CG, I'd save your pennies for a Duo-R/X (or Duo with cap job);  there's lots of great HuCARD titles, but there's a ton of great CD titles too.

My usual forum name is FiftyQuid.  I found this forum through CGCC and really like the dedication to information here.  The repair guides are intense and the dedication videos to NEC damn near made me tear up.

I'm just another collector.  My favourite system as a kid (16 years old) was the TG-16.  After that was the Genesis, and NES.  I'm looking at collecting TG-16 games first, but I'd also like to grab those 'gems' from the Genesis and NES that I really enjoyed playing (eg. Gun.Smoke, Blaster Master, Mega Man, etcetera).  Glad to be here and I hope to contribute as much as I can.

I'm new to the forum.... well lurked for a long time....  Used this site for inspiration to fix a dead tgcd unit...  picked up a broken unit with stuck gears and no spin/laser activity... blew all the cat hair outta it.. unstuck the gear.. cleaned the lens and it came to life. I got a cd base unit on the way and got a japan system card 3.0 so a chopsado is in my future.  I think I have read about every topic on the forums.  This place has it all!  Anyway back in the 90s i picked up a new tg16 near the end of its lifespan and I have loved it ever since.

Hello.

Been lurking here awhile and finally made an account. I'm usually alternating between here, reading nesdev.parodius or posting on Sprites Mind. I've been working on a game project for the Sega Genesis, Goplanes, http://gendev.spritesmind.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1090.

Whenever I'm done with Goplanes, I'm very interested in doing something for the TG16. I don't know what yet, and I don't know when, but I frequently think about it so it'll happen sooner or later. I'm disappointed that there's not a lot of TG16 game development going on. Or maybe I'm just not finding the right places.

Anyway! Glad to be here.

Long time fan here, just getting back in. I used to be on turbo list but left and now it seems to have died. :( anyway I'm planning on S-Video mod for my TG-16 and checking the CD for bad caps.  I also have an extra CD base and hoping to pick up a CD unit to make it a spare set

My collection consists:
Two TG-16 units (one with no RF shield for modding)
Two CD base units
one CD-ROM unit
one CD system carry case
one TurboBooster Plus
Two Turbo Tap
four Turbo Sticks (got em cheap off Radio Shack when they briefly offered old game stuff)
loads of Turbo Pads (some works, some for parts or repair)
controller extension cable
Duo controller adapter (if I ever get a Duo)
and a total of 49 unique games, all USA games.

Hello y'all!
I'm very excited to be here.  Looking to pick up a PC Engine Duo as soon as I can find one.  I used to have a TG16 years ago, and having put a lot of time recently into my old SNES I would like to delve right into PCE as well!
