This thread is for auctions on turbo items where the seller just creates a bad listing.  It's not about gouging, it's just about people that take photos with their thumb in the photo, half their living room in the photo, or a description that is completely unreadable.

Here is the first example; http://www.ebay.com/itm/Blazing-Lazers-TurboGrafx-16-1989-in-original-jewel-case-/110959363096?pt=Video_Games_Games&hash=item19d5b18418

OK,  I'm not sure where to talk about this particular auction so I'll start the discussion in this thread....  Here is the auction link....

I'm not going to bash on the seller, but he states that the "rare Turbo-DuoTap"  had to be custom ordered from Hudson and they were hand made.  Did Hudson ever offer this?  It kinda sounds like something Turbo Zone Direct might have done.  Correct me if I am wrong, but all that is needed to make one of these is a screwdriver?  Just take each tap apart and swap cables and re assemble right?

Also, his copy of Dungeon Explorer 2 looks a little odd.  Has anyone ever seen that particular instruction book art for it?  Looks like a burned/home made copy to me.

FiftyQuid

@Flare65 - Glad you asked this because I was wondering the very same thing.  I've never heard anyone mention this before.  Custom ordered from Hudson Soft?  Why would they do this?  There's no money in it for them.

Custom ordered my arse, that's a DIY job.

SignOfZeta

I sort of vaguely remember TZD selling some kind of cable swapped item, maybe it was this? Maybe it was TG-16 pads with Duo leads on them? Maybe I imagined this?

Anyway, I sure wish eBay would bring back insertion fees. The starting bid on that lot is $850. The starting bid Seems ridiculous to me.

It's been a while since I last posted here, but every so often I skim through posts here to see what's new for sale, whether Mysterious song was ever finished, etc.

I can confirm, TZD did sell these types of taps. They were sold in their catalog as, "Reverse Duo Taps" and "Reverse Turbo Taps". One allowed 5 Duo controllers on a TG-16 system, the other 5 TG-16 controllers on a DUO/PCE system.

They were featured for sell in many catalogs, but in the late 90's or so, as stock depleted, they left their catalog.

I also recall the awesome deal, of 5 controllers, and a tap. You could order either the TG16 combo pack, or the DUO combo pack. It was something crazy cheap (Considering todays prices for new stuff), $50 or so for 5 controllers and a tap.  It was sold as the, "Bomberman Party Pack" or something to that effect.
"Damnit, Beavis, put that away. You're not supposed to have your _____ out when you're cooking".

PCEngineHell

Yeah TZD sold them and also early on when they sold SF II Champ if you ordered a 6 button pad and requested it they would change out the cord on that also. As far as the rest of the auction goes, does the seller even once mention if the CD system still works or not? Its hard to tell...

Seller claims Neutopia 2 game only is included in this lot, but the flash from his camera left such a horrible glare on the loose game, its hard to tell WHAT it is! Neutopia 2... or... Keith Courage? Why would they post that horrible picture? Take another one, you lazy ass!

These listing are what inspired me to create this thread.  I'm not sure what the seller was trying to accomplish here.  Either way, I know there was some PhotoShop cutting going on.  The end result is still terribly bad.

CrackTiger

The mail order store I bought SFII' from bitd also offered Duo/PCE/Turbo cord swapping. Nec and TTi never did. TZD might have, but that's like saying the only way to get a Turbo game in a bubble envelope through the mail bitd was "factory direct".

I've noticed that seller's pictures before when I was purchasing some GB games.  Especially for those, there is the tiniest little GB game in the corner.  Apparently he hasn't heard of the 'crop' button.

Or he's an evil genius and his odd way of doing pictures is actually getting him more sales.

My guess would be the former, but who knows.

FiftyQuid

piehole69 just put up a bunch of listings.  Could someone please tell me why sellers won't answer questions?  I want to see a photo of one of his listing and I get this if I try to contact him;

"We're sorry we couldn't find an answer for you. Unfortunately, this seller is not able to respond to your question. We suggest reviewing the item again to see if your answer is in the seller's listing."

The description is a one liner that could mean anything, but I can't ask questions?  Why do Sellers sell this way?  Laziness?  Why wouldn't they want more people interested to drive up the price?

Ebay conventions I hate:

*"Professionally cleaned." What the hell does this mean? Did they send it to the "Doc" of fix-a-system-plus fame? Did they take the cart to an Authorized Nintendo Repair Center?

*"This listed has ended because the item is no longer available." Words can't begin to describe my contempt for pussies that cancel auctions to sell privately.

*"like new" loose carts + stock pictures. Ebay condition criteria should be abundantly clear to everyone by now. I don't care how glossy that label is, if it's loose, it must be graded as "acceptable."

*Sellers that speak in the first person plural: "sorry, but we're out of stock" or "sorry, we made a mistake." Sure, this is believable when the seller's feedback is in the tens of thousands and they have hundreds of items listed at any given time, but most of this deceitful, responsibility-abdicating gobbledygook comes from idiots with a dozen games for sale. I refuse to believe that a seller with less feedback then me has a team of employees and a serious business.

Find the ones that say "New Other". It could refer to a game that taken from a box but otherwise unplayed. It could refer to a new video card pulled from a system that was unused. It is being used by lots of people to sell stuff they reconditioned and attract them to there auction with the word "NEW".

They are making the effort to show the actual item for sale. People leave negative feedback over cheap games when they aren't in the condition conjured by their imagination, based on a brief description. A picture of the actual item for sale helps prevent losing a refund claim.

That is eBay's catch-all for any item that ends early for any reason (private sale, auction got reported and pulled down, seller banned, etc.) and not always a seller cancelling the auction to sell privately.

I really don't understand why people don't take just a few minutes to make a more detailed listing.  As the seller, you are trying to make the most amount of money, but so many sellers throw something up like:

"mario for nes no manual paypal only plz"

Like they are on the subway and making a quick listing before they forget or something.  It is really odd.  And I understand if you have 1,000 listings, but it really surprises me when it is someone with just a few listings.

Course, we now have the whole "ebay mobile" thing, which encourages it, so I don't know.

I guess not everyone is a marketing expert, but some of it seems like common sense...

FiftyQuid

Common sense seems to be a rarity today.  Every year I look at taking a night course at my local college and I wholeheartedly expect to see Common Sense 101 listed there.

Yeah, I've noticed that too, so many thoughtless listings end with the little note about it being posted with eBay mobile.

What strikes me as odd is that the crappy listings are the ones that seem to sell fast or get bid on to high amounts.
