The Last CD drive is on hold. So as of right now I have no more for sale. I am glad to have gotten these drives into fellow forum members hands.

I have about 5-6 white PC engine CD drives for sale. I bought a big lot and repaired them all. Most drives have had the infamous CD lens gear replaced and some have newer lenses. Prices range from $60-80 just depending on the condition. Shipping should only be about $8 in the US. PM me if interested. These will also work in a US Turbo Grafx. Also, 5 dollars off if you mail me a check or money order as payment instead of using paypal.

Unfortunately I don't have any docking stations for sale.

LostFlunky

I don't need one right now, but seeing your post put a big smile on my face.  Good to see these getting refurbed!

Do you have to cut some plastic on the port to make it fit on a US docking station?

turbokon

There exactly the same, it would just be cosmetically unappealing.

So, what would be needed to make this work with my regular TG-16?  Would I need any special power adapters or connector cords?

Also, would the CD drive output using red/white/yellow A/V cables?

I may be interested in getting you to region-mod my regular TG-16, and then just hook it up with one of these.   8)

Also, do you know if these drives would be able to play CDR's?

Thanks.

Basically you would need a TG16 CD docking station, ac adapter, and cd system card. A cheaper JP system card can be used with a converter or a region mod. Also, I have some cheaper AC adapters available if anyone needs one.

Yes, they can read CDrs. Iv'e noticed that these type of drives generally read them better than DUOs typically do.

tpivette

Always been interested in the white CD drives for some reason. Maybe get one of these and do an all white TG16 + CD setup? Wonder how that would look...

If you still have a few by Friday I'll probably pick one up from you. Any photos of the condition of these units with the price differences?

The prices have to do with the cosmetic condition of the drive and if it has a new lens. So if you want a nice white one with a new lens and gears it would be $80.

$70-75 Close to being perfectly white with new gearing and or new lens.

A yellowed drive would run around $60. Gearing has been replaced but lens has not.

I didn't replace the lens on drives that didn't need one. So would reflect in the price as well.

Here is a pic of a drive being used in a USTG system.

that's... unappealing...
however, a PCE briefcase setup, that's a thing of beauty, get a nice Coregrafx/OG PCE and an IFU and you are good to go.
I think i'm gonna be breaking down and snagging one of these after playing with the idea for approximately forever.

SuperPlay

Defiantly interested.  Would you ship to the UK?

Keith Courage

yes, UK shipping is fine. The shipping would run somewhere in between $12-$20 US dollars depending on the exact location. It would be easiest if you could just send me $20 via paypal and then I would just refund the difference once I ship the drive. I've noticed that the price is usually less in person than it is on the postal service website.

Oh, and Bardoly ? Your newbness is incredible. :P

*Except the internals. It's a stock PAL TG. I'm sure the adapter and Arcade Card Pro make up for it, though. ;) The machine is owned by Thierry Henry over at Racketboy.

Q: How did you repair the CD-Lens gears? By changing it to a belt instead? Or just finding replacement parts?

bartre

I think i want it.
I think it's hideous.
i'm not sure whether to declare my love, or to murder it with a shovel.

I'm so confused, will someone tell me how to feel about this thing ?

also, I'm pretty sure KC repaired these using his replacement gears that he offers here, but i'm not the one who repaired them, so i'll let KC answer definitively.

hizaygizirlz

Gypsies did it.

He has found replacement gears for his units.  :)  I believe he has a thread here about it.

Oh, I completely agree.  I am still pretty much a noob when it comes to anything Turbo CD related.   :-"

I literally knew NOTHING about TurboGrafx-16 CD games and PC Engine games until I started reading up on them when I discovered this forum back in spring of this year.  The only thing that I had experience at all with was the regular U.S.-released TurboGrafx-16 and its HuCard games (and only 20-30 of those).  But ever since I've gotten back into Turbo gaming and have discovered the CD and PC Engine games and have gotten a region-modded Duo, I have been lovin' it!  I'm like a sponge - soaking up all of this wonderful information!

heh, it will take control of you.
YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED.

heh, this has gotten a little off topic.
anywho, i'm buying one of these nice PCE drives, who else ?

MotherGunner

On Ebay you can get brand new PAL systems for like 60 bucks plus shipping.  They have taken the copy of BL out but you get a brand new system.  I was definitely planning to do this as mentioned below but never got around to it.  I just may try it down the road.

Got my drive in today and it looks great. Hoping to snag an IFU-30 soon and give it a nice test drive :)

Bumping this thread... wondering how many you have left... if any at all.

I have a TG16 and a docking station, but I'm torn between trying to find a black TG16 CD drive, or go with a white PCE one

I'd get a white one from Keith (if he still has any available) and keep any eye out for a black one.  They don't seem to pop up very often, but when one does you can grab it and probably sell the white one for what you paid for it.

tpivette

Theres a black one on ebay right now with no bids at $80 + $12 shipping. Non-working, though. Probably only needs a gear replacement which is an easy fix.

One popped up about 2 hours ago for $99 BIN that WAS working... it was gone in a matter of minutes. Even had a manufature date of August '89, which was cool to see after reading the thread/discussion about the CD drive's '89 or '90 release date.

Still on the fence about the color, though...

I just bought a white one from Keith for $78 shipped and he had a cheaper one available (though it was somewhat yellowed).  It couldn't hurt to shoot him a PM and see what he has in stock. :)

I just bought one as well. My cd drive is yellow as a school bus. Finally it will match the PC engine!  =D>
