I'm really digging these Turbo/PC Engine-themed collections. I collect a little of everything, new and old, all hardware manufacturers, so I don't have a unifying theme to my collection. At most, I guess someone might assume I like Nintendo and Sony games best looking at my collection since I have more games for their systems than others, plus most of my game-related merchandise seems to be based on games on either Nintendo or Sony systems.

I gotta laugh at all the problems with the wives/girlfriends. My future hubby actually gives ME the hard time for amassing so much game junk, haha. Although he loves games as much as me, but I'm much more of a collector. He doesn't seriously mind, but I have cut down my rate of acquiring stuff a bit in recent years. I've pretty well maxed out the space we have now, short of packing my shelves two rows deep and making them look ugly (which I have started doing to some extent). I dream of someday having my own dedicated game room, while he'll have his own dedicated music studio room.

bartre

damn bernie, that's like 3X what i've got!
that said, there's a lot of games there that I would personally never play, what with all the other games in my collection.
damn impressive though!

turboswimbz

Bernie, that shelf is beautiful.  And I'm familiar with the lack of screws, it's quite common in furniture building.  Most often serious craftsman would never make it another way.  I wasn't sure about the bags, but I really like it actually after a bit.  gives it pizzazz.
NW: Hey, I made it on this psycho's Enemies' List, how about that ?? ;)
BT: Look at how the fake SFII' carts instantly sold out and were immediately listed on eBay before the flippers even took possession. Look at Nintendo's overpriced bricks. Look at the typical forum discussions elsewhere. You can't tell most retro gamers anything!

Bernie, your sorting is killing me. Such a great collection, but such a bad sorting. Turbo CDs mixed in with Super CDs mixed in with Hucards mixed in with PCEngine...

I'm usually not OCD, I just find that sorting method to look so ugly. The end labels are so vastly different.

I prefer my method of sorting. Old TG16, Newer TG16, TGCD, Super CD, PCEngine stuffs.

Just need to get off my lazy duff, and finally get those sparky labels.

interesting organization guys, maybe I'm in the middle somewhere, I got TG16 all alphabetical then PCE stuff alphabetical.

I'm with Bernie here. :) I can't read Japanese. If I want to play a game it's way easier for me to locate it if everything is alphabetical. I'll admit it's not as pretty:

i45.tinypic.com/2wlx92e.jpg

Side note, here's the piece of hardware I'm most happy about right now! SuperGrafx with Super CD-ROM and Arcade Card :D :

i47.tinypic.com/2czxbr.jpg

Yes, it's dirty. It also kicks lots of ass! :D

bartre

I gotta Side with bernie on the organization.
I can read basic japanese, but anything with kanji screws with me, esp. since sometimes the font is just ridiculously small.
though i do occasionally get asked if they're all games for the same system.

VestCunt

I split my U.S. games between CDs and Turbochips and then alphabetize them. It took years of counseling before I could de-segregate my orange spines from the "colored" labels.

For PCE, I haven't even bothered to learn the names of some of my games, so I forgo the alphabet completely and break them down by format: CD, SCD, ACD, HU, and SGX. Inside of that, I have some genres like shooters, RPGs, and two-players loosely grouped together.
I'm a cunt, always was. Topic Adjourned.

Aggie Tsubi

Gah, the madness of it all, haha. I'm majorly anal about the organization of Turbo/PC Engine games. I can't stand having the colors all mixed up. No matter what the system, I sort US and Japanese releases separately, but I have to take it a step further for my NEC stuff. I only have orange-spined TG-16 releases so far so that's easy enough, but for the Japanese releases, HuCards, CD-ROM, Super CD, and Arcade are all separate and then alphabetized within those groups (alphabetized according to the Roman alphabet, going off however the title should be properly romanized). Big box and normal jewel case PC-FX games also are kept separate, obviously.

Bernie

Damnit!!  Now I am feeling the need to reorganize....  ugh...

Geez, I even group Dreamcast games by the spine colour.  Then by alpha.   It drives me nutz when they change the label styles - like the PS1, ps2, ps3, DC, Genesis, TG16...

Aggie Tsubi

I'm the same with Dreamcast, haha. And red case Genesis games are separate from the rest, and PS1 long boxes from jewel cases, of course. It's probably a miracle that as of yet I've tolerated mixing in a few Greatest Hits with my jewel case PS1 games, and the newer style PSP cases are mixed in with the older ones that have the larger black tab on the top of the spine. The inconsistency of the PSP games really bugs me, though, so my organization of them might change in the future. Right now my PSP collection is still dominated by older releases.

FiftyQuid

I'm sort of with Bernie, and sort of with DK.  My issue is I can never remember if it's an older TG release, a CD2 or SCD.  So as much as I want to put the same labels together, and the same colours together I can't because I'd never find anything.  I have about 100 games right now so I could probably manage it, but what happens when I get to 200?  My brain would explode trying to find a specific title in less than 5 minutes.  That's 5 minutes I could've been playing the game!

Small collection = sort by colour
Medium collection = sort by colour/name
Large collection = sort by name
I'm busy playing pinball, but I still drop by to visit.

This is why I love the often maligned PS2 games in the PAL region. They are all white, with big black lettering, and are very uniform. I love the simplicity of it, it looks far more respectable, imo.

You guys are crazy! This topic (sorting methods) has come up in the past.

If you are worried by aesthetics, I suggest you sort by THICKNESS of items:

IMG

ITEMS OF MASSIVE GIRTH
BOXED ITEMS (a handful of items, such as Pachinko game and Forgotten worlds, were boxed w/ items)
DOUBLE-CD JEWEL CASE
CHUBBY JEWEL CASE (a handful of games have this to accommodate thicker-than-usual manuals)
STANDARD JEWEL CASE
SLIM LINE JEWEL CASE
SLENDER LOOSE ITEMS
...et cetera...

I wonder if women rank their favorite boyfriends of all time in a similar girth manner.

some really cool ideas to mine on these threads. I need to be able to get all my systems and games organized in such a way that lil kiddy hands don't touch them and felines stay away from. My cats LOVE to sit next to the ps3 if I leave it on....sigh....

Dunno if I posted these here, wouldn't surprise me, but I've had these pics for a couple of years on my site, so what the hell.

The now retired PC at the top-right which I bought from Bestbuy in 2000 for ~$1,800 is what I was using during my Ys localization project/development days via Windows XP. Still have the newer 2006 Windows Vista PC next to the monitor since, oh, 2008 I think. The backlog stack of games was to try to motivate me to eventually play and finish them by having them sit there in my face every day, but the idea didn't work all that much... ; )

I also posted the same video on a different topic for the Nec based gaming gathering I am trying to get organized. The rest of my collection is put away until I setup my storage room for gaming again. I will probably by then know how to post up multiple pics you can see without having to click onto photo links. Sorry guys this posting up in forums is all completely new to me. I'm just barely learning the ropes. Sorry about the crappy video quality also. My camera totally sucks !!
Finally playing these games I couldn't get my hands on back in 91' !!! Nec fan always !!!

VERY nice game hardware there!

Let me say that more people should interior decorate with systems, handhelds and games!

P.S. I'm jealous of that Clamshell Case on the CD unit, I keep getting outbid, or missing out on them.

@ Tron .. Yes it can if you buy a Ps adapter to Snes or Genesis .. I know there are other ways to do it besides that approach .. But I'm old school so I mod all my joysticks with Ps ports, because you can pretty much get those Ps adapters for any retro console .. It's much easier going about it that way in my opinion ...

Figured I would get around to posting on this. My classic 2D gaming area contains the following:

1. Apex 24 inch CRT monitor with composite and S-video in and also composite out for recording on exterior devices
2. AMD Socket A Sempron 2400+ based computer strictly for Nebula and Mame, using a BFG Geforce FX 5900 XT via S-video out, and a Soundblaster Audegy
3. region modded Sega Genesis with S-video out
4. region modded Duo-R with S-video out
5. TurboDuo with S-video out
6. Altec Lansing stereo speaker and subwoofer set from 2002 (floor firing sub and main speakers have floor firing speakers with front tweeters)
7. Digital picture frame that auto slide shows different NEC related game screen shots and cover art, and auto plays MP3 music tracks from Lords of Thunder and Gradius II when it is turned on

/DSCN6649.jpg

28 loose hucards stored in there in sports card sleeves. Other container holds loose Genesis and Mega Drive carts and other small things I may need.

This is probably the single best gameroom innovation I've seen AND the best use for a digital picture frame.

The two upstairs bedrooms in the house I live in are basically loft like in design, with said alcoves, one per room located at the front bedroom window. Basically makes a nice little gaming area. My son uses the spot in his room for his gaming pc. For me its a nice little spot where I can go and focus on the classic stuff without any distractions.

The room is sponsored by IKEA. ;)

IKEA in the room includes;

The black PS3 shelf on the right (recent purchase).
The black glass CD shelf circa late 1990's.
The silver/wood shelves on the left bought in early '01.
The silver framed CafePress TG poster on the right (recent purchase).
The silver magnet board in the far left corner (recent purchase).

The apartment size couch I think is from Leon's, but it might be Loblaws.  Bought it used off Kijiji.  The inexpensive furniture keeps Mrs. Quid happy and allows me to spend the money on more games.

I think I'm going to spend some money and get an Asteroids mural going on the back wall.  I loved playing Asteroids on Atari back as a kid;

This might look good too, or a variant of it.  It's something simple I could just print out myself.
