Further proof that Wii has Xavix-envy...

1. Golf club, tennis racket and baseball bat: Is it a Wii? Or is it a Xavix?

2. Pretty soon we'll see Wii-branded wrist weights. Here's a sneak peak at a prototype (OK, this may be a joke, but guess what? I predict that some manufacturer will actually sell them). Personally, wristweights are incredibly lame compared to the handweights that Xavix fitness games use, but the wrist weights would allow you to use the controllers, I suppose... and, in all fairness, the wristweights are not designed for a specific Wii fitness game. So...

I predict that there will be an announcement that a Wii fitness title is in development... and it will track calories burned and miles ran for everyone in the family (as Xavix does). Or has this already been announced (I recall a diet-based game being announced, but no mention of exercise)?

The Wii has a serious case of Xavix-envy.

If Nintendo releases a fitness game that incorporates ninjas... well, Nintendo should just re-brand the "Wii" as "Xavix".

:)

i think the Xavix was an awesome idea - if it had more games, I would've picked one up.

as for the wrist-weights and nerf-handles, they were just a matter of time - wrist weights are nothing new (just slap a wii logo on a standard one) and nintendo themselves had a 'light gun' slipcover prototype.

I know you claim to be joking about all this Xavix 0wnz Wii stuff, Steve, but I'm starting to think you're serious :) .

One word: word.

Indeed, it's AV time. Check out: IMG! Sir, the door was open.

Yeah this was already announced awhile ago, but there aren't really any details for it yet.

Me neither, and I concur.

Xavix is what Nintendo stole most if its "innovative" ideas for the Wii from.  Well that and a billion other things with motion control that existed before the Wii.

Oh my goodness, it seems that GUTS is the only one here who hasn't been brainwashed by Nintenclone!

I've been thinking about things, and now I feel that Wii should have been called "WiiviX" or "XaWii" or "Yahweh" ...

You're still not getting it :D . Of course the technologies have existed before the Wii, but the whole point of the Wii is to combine these into a single controller so they can be used any software designed for it, instead of releasing a special controller for each game. The reason systems like Xavix and toys like Virtual Reality Ninja Pug 'n' Play Game fail is because they use seperate accessories, which means more hardware and more money (well I also imagine that Ninja game is just poorly designed too :D ). FINALLY us dorks that love this kind of stuff have a console that can do all of this with one controller and not to mention it being designed by a well established company with third party support as well.

The DS features a touch screen and microphone which is far from being new, but people still consider it innovative and I don't hear you ragging on it anymore (unlike when it first came out). If I were you I'd tone down my attitude before you make an ass out of yourself again in a year :) .

Like I said, I'll get one when mario comes out, I just get sick of reading how "innovative" the Wii is, and how the graphics are "4x better" than the gamecube, both blatant lies.  Nintendo should have upgraded the graphics on it to a 360 level and offered a standard controller with motion sensing like Sony did, with Sony practically commiting suicide this generation they probably could have taken first place back.

Even if Nintendo didn't do much to upgrade the Wii graphically from the Gamecube(and yes they should've), the Gamecube was already under utilized graphics-wise and companies developing for Wii should at least try to match the better visuals of the PS2/Xbox/GC generation.

Instead, most developers seem content to produce below average Gamecube visuals. I believe that the Wii (and Gamecube) can do graphics that the average person could confuse as "4x better" than Gamecube(like RE4), but so far its not happening. Although the Raving Rabbits game has some nice screenshots.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Post undertsood. I have never heard any claims of the graphics being "4x better" than Gamecube's though, that's just ridiculous. Miyamoto himself even said Wii was essentially a Gamecube, so I don't know what drugs those people are smoking.

I agree that Nintendo should've made the Wii a little more powerful than what it is (however I still don't find 360 or PS3 games to be a big graphical leap yet), but I disagree about Nintendo using a standard controller. I think the TV remote design of the Wiimote works a lot better for the variety of interactive games for the Wii. For example, if the Wiimote was shaped like a standard controller, how exactly are you to play baseball and pretend you're holding a bat? It just wouldn't feel as right, so I think the remote design was a great idea for interactive game design.

However, I think the Wiimote + Nunchuck actually works great as a non-interactive gamepad. It may not have as many buttons as a standard gamepad today would have, but it works out great for a game like Zelda which doesn't really use the Wiimote's special abilities and to me it pretty much feels like a standard gamepad. The beauty of the Wiimote + Nunchuck in a non-interactive way though is the comfort, which in my opinion feels great as a simple! I can lay back and hold the Nunchuck portion behind my hand while comfortably holding the Wiimote in the other hand; much like sitting back on a sofa and flipping channels on TV with a remote.

I thought companies did a pretty decent job utilizing the Gamecube's graphics, especially Nintendo themselves and Factor 5. I'm not a tech expert, so I don't know how much more they could've utilized Gamecube's graphical abilities (I would imagine more just like any system could), but I've always found Gamecube graphics to be top notch ever since it was released.

I agree completely. It's really interesting that there a lot of Gamecube games that have better graphics than some Wii games and that there are Wii games with graphics that look bad for Gamecube standards. In fact the president of Factor 5 discusses this in an interview with IGN here . There are some nice looking Wii games already out though, like Excite Truck (I think this is probably the best looking Wii game and it looks great), Zelda (some spots are absolutely gorgeous while others are bleh), and Red Steel (just like Zelda, some spots looks amazing while others can look bad for Gamecube standards). But like any other console, I'm sure Wii graphics will improve and I think Nintendo's next big three games, Metroid, Smash Bros., and Mario Galaxy are really taking a step up in graphics (and gameplay). Mario Galaxy alone looks to have some really high quality graphics instore.
