A first in a series where we throw down to find out which are the best games for the Turbo.

I hope to run a new question each week. I have a bunch of ideas to keep this going

Please explain your answer as well.

To kick things off I am pitting two of the best shooters on a system full of shumps. I often hear that Soldier Blade is the best Turbo HuCard shump for the system and is beloved by many shooter fans. On the flip side we have Gate of Thunder a flashy, fast paced and awesome game that shows us what the Super CD rom format can do. It is clear that the makers of the game put a lot off effort and love into it.

So lets get ready to crumble!

I voted for Soldier Blade. By nature I prefer vertical shooters. I also feel the difficulty is more reasonable in this to GOT. Catchy chiptunes will always trump redbook in my opinion. Plus I have a unnatural fetish with the fully powered up blue laser

GoT. It may not be the "better" game, but its a personal favorite.
When I first broke open the Duo and spun that game, I felt like the memorex guy sitting in the chair.
That and the fact I have never played SB proper, just the ROM.

Soldier Blade for me. GOT is good but SB just gets played way more. One of my favorite TG16 games.

By nature I prefer vertical shooters, but I'd have to say GoT on this one. I play it far more than I do Soldier Blade, though I've never beaten either. They are both top notch games, but Gate of Thunder is frickin' Gate of Thunder!

Not sure why, but I just enjoy the Star Soldier series more as a whole. It's not that I don't enjoy the "of Thunder" series, just not as much as the good ol' SS.

I voted Soldier Blade, it's my third favourite game for the system after Drac X and Lords of Thunder.

Gate of Thunder is an amazing game no doubt but just a bit too easy.

Soldier Blade for me, even as a kid I liked it better. The Caravan puts it over the top. I have spent countless hours over the last 20 years playing Soldier Blade. One life clears and maxing scores in the Caravan, it's probably my favorite shooter of all time. Along with Bomberman 93 it's the reason I have continued to love and collect for the system.

Both games are great, but Gate of Thunder nails it for me. It's a perfect game.

Both are excellent games, but I LOVE the music in GoT! I also prefer vertical shooties.

Maybe this should be a NCAA tournament style (Kind of like what gamefaqs does with their character battle) bracket thing where we can vote our BEST of the BEST shooties?

Soldier Blade.

They are both really good. I think of Aerofighters a lot when I play GoT, and that's not a bad thing, but I like SB a little more.

Even just logically thinking it through, the only aspect that seems debatable is sound effects. Otherwise Lords is pretty much superior in every way.

I can't sign that. It still is a matter of personal taste. Not everyone is appealed by the phantasy touch of WoT and probably more likes the space theme.

For me they're kinda equal perfect, but GoT does a μ more more appeal to me

Holy Shite, yet another topic I never saw!

First, I don't think I can vote.

Second, that makes this a great match-up.

I love both games. I could flip a coin, or I could vote for the underdog (not that I know who the underdog is).

Oh my god, I can't choose one game.

UPDATE: I couldn't resist and peeked at the poll...it's ridiculous that GoT is stomping SB... I VOTE FOR Soldier Blade.

I went with Blade but if it was Lords vs Blade, I'd side with Lords. Gate does nothing wrong, it's a perfect hori shooter a la Thunderforce 3. The Soldier series is more attracting to me, and the caravan mode does not hurt it. Thank god we never have to pick just one...we can have them ALL!
