Hey Paranoia... did any 3DO games have redbook audio?  It's been awhile since I've owned the unit, but I seem to remember most if not all games just had one big track o' data with streaming audio.

ParanoiaDragon

Yeah, every 3DO game I've ever tried, was just 1 data track, no audio.  It's a bummer, since there's alot of music I'd love to have from 3DO games, but, would need to go thru all of them, & record them 1 by 1 to have them!  I could've done it with Lucienne's Quest before I lost my data ](*,)

Mr Bonk

Great, really, really great listings/postings.
Quik Question:  Are you able to get the tracks' for Shapeshifter (Tried to rip, doesn't come out, used realplayer(don't know any other way) and didn't work)  Feel like a spastic, but I have an old 'puter with not that much memory left to download some other program to do that (Magic Engine for HES won't work for me as well)

Also tried to rip Godzilla, SplashLake and Dungeon Explorer 2, but it doesn't show any music tracks.

Thankz for the assist.

Did you rename the extension from .hes to .pce?
Quote from: TurboXray on 01/02/2014, 09:21 PMAdding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Keep in mind, that DE 2 will require more work, since I will try to have every song in the upload, numbered in order, so I might have to play thru the game again, since it's been a long time.
IMG

Mr Bonk

That's alright.  Just work on the easier ones first.  Are the HuCard games easier to do?

I am finding YsIII PS2 version most agreeable  :)

You like it?  I think it's ok, better then the Genesis & SNES versions.  I'll probably upload the new PC version of Ys 3(Oath in Felghana), which, I'm still debating on if it's better then the Turbo version, that's how good it is!

As for Hucard's, I'd say it's easier to rip the music from the cd's, since, alot of the time, the music track names are found online in the databases, though, not all of them are.  Plus, trying to make sure the Hucard's sound as close as possible to the origial software, can be annoying at times, so, cd's are generally easier.  With the exception of when there are PSG tracks included, like with DE 2, then, that makes it a little more difficult, since it's chip music, & I want it to sound right.

ParanoiaDragon

Added New Adventure Island, Dungeon Explorer, Kid Niki(NES), & Legend of Xanadu 2 to the first post.  On Legend of Xanadu 2, I ripped the music from both cd's.  For some reason, Falcom made the first cd, all the PSG tracks, & the second cd, all the redbook along with arranged tracks.  I took the liberty of putting all the tracks in order as you would hear them in the game & put them in the first part, with the arranged songs in the second part =D>

Question to Joe and other mac users: Have you been able to open any of these files? I get an error message when stuffit (or whatever it is called) tries to decompress the files. I've been missing out on all of this music!

What version of Stuffit? I'm using StuffIt Expander 11 or something under OS 10.2.8 with no problems. I've downloaded a few and didn't have any trouble.

I haven't had any problems decompressing, either.  RAR is pretty standard.  Go to www.versiontracker.com (I assume you're using some incarnation of OSX) and search for RAR and download one of the freeware expanders.  Also Stuffit Expander is free.  It only costs if you want to use it to compress.  So maybe try searching for that first instead.

ParanoiaDragon

Hope that works out for you Steve!

And I added Dungeon Explorer 2(including all PSG & cinemas) & Dungeon Explorer for Sega CD to the first post :-$

Hahaha. Well, I was actually on an OS 9 machine at the time I posted my question, but, regardless, I don't know what is causing the "Format Error #17450" in Stuffit. I believe it refers to a corrupt file, but who knows. I've rarely had this problem unzipping files with Stuffit, but I know I've encountered it before. I've always laid blame on "corrupt files" ...

Stuffit used to be a great utility (for mac, anyway), but it's a big piece of crap now. I switched to Unarchiver today, Paranoia's files unzip without a problem. I am an idiot! :)

Since I'm lazy and I don't want to go search 6 pages of comments to find the answer, I will ask this question despite the fact it's probably been asked (and answered) at least once here before.

How are you ripping the PSG tracks? Do you use an emulator, some kind of HES extraction utility or are you playing them off the real hardware into a computer encoding MP3? If you are using a combination of these methods, it would be nice for you to make a note next to the download link telling which method was used for a particular game.

I ask because the few I've downloaded sound "off" from what I hear on my system. When it comes to audio, I'm all about 100% accuracy.

EDIT: OK, so I found the answer to my question. Apparently it was the first question asked in the thread. So..... My next question is, how would you feel if I said I'd be willing to re-"rip" some of those PSG tracks for you using the real hardware? Maybe I'd even go as far as to set up a small FTP server at home and mirror all the files so people don't have to deal with all that "MEGAUPLOAD" bullshit.

I know how I'd feel about you doing that... phuggin' great!  Especially for Truxton (if possible).

EDIT:  Wow the sound team truly failed on the PCE port of Wonder Boy in Monster Land.  The SMS version has a much more pleasing sound (fewer ear bleeding/nails-on-the-chalkboard-sounding frequencies).  I like the SMS composition better for most of the tunes that have changed as well.

The FM music is also nice, but I can't get it to play without some static and noise.
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

ParanoiaDragon

From what I recall, it sounds pretty close to the arcade version, though, I'd have to boot up the game again to check.

Ok, just booted it up, the music is almost identical to the arcade version.  Played just thru the 2nd level.

And, if you wanna rerip all that stuff from hardware, that's fine by me, I certainly don't have the time to do that, even though I'd love to.  I have little time on my hands as it is, & I want all this music so I can play it in my truck, but, thought I'd share it with everbody.  I know what you mean about accuracy.  Also, some of those psg tracks were originally done years ago, so it's possible, that there's some I didn't check the quality of before posting.  Which ones did you download?  I peronally really like Megaupload, as I hate sendspace & all those others places.  Megaupload is the easiest, & I've gotten so much stuff from there.  Plus, I have 50 Gig's of space there, & I have plenty of games to rip.

One of the tunes in the PCE version of WBiML that really gets me is the SHOP tune, I think.  Screeeech!

ParanoiaDragon

Yeah, I agree, at first, it starts out with the bassline, but, once that melody kicks in, YIKES!

Also, added Batman to the first post [-o<

Hey, no offense intended, your efforts are well-appreciated here! Just thought I'd offer to lend a hand. Maybe this weeknd I'll set things up to rip from the hardware.
