Ordered Altered Beast Hucard off ebay. I am going to order Altered Beast CD as well. All that talk of it peaked my interest in both.

I like that a thread about a game sucking prompted you to buy said game.

Shoulda spent the money on a big mac or something
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

^nice way to support people trying to do something for PC Engine hacking world. No wonder people quit doing this for free.

I remember having the Hucard back in 1999 of Altered Beast and liking it. So I bought both. THe Huey and CD

Xak, I buy games, both good and bad, based on forum discussions (I am intrigued by the game and want to play it for myself). That is not the issue, really (for me, anyway).

The issue, really, is how sincere you are. There is no point to trying to "prove" your sincerity, though, since doubters are always gonna doubt.

Skeptics are always gonna be skeptical.

Validus is always gonna be Validus.

Et cetera, et cetera.

Personally, I have given you the benefit of doubt, but it is in your own best interest to avoid drama, make sincere posts, and proceed.

I dont know if its nostalgia, but I remember having a great time with the Huecard. I will try the CDrom version next to see how it fares.

Make sure you use System Card 1.0 or you won't be able to proceed further once your transformed into a beast.

awack

I just played the pce and genesis ports of altered beast and damn, the pce port seems as if it has 2 more megs of memory, one example is the first enemies you will see, the zombies, the pce port has 3 frames for walking and the genesis has 2 frames, but the pce has what I call full body animation, the bottom half and the top half(torso and arms are animated) where is the genesis the top half is un animated and of course the pce also has an death animation of about 5 frames, the uses the same single frame that all enemies use in the pce port....I think between the pce cd, hucard and genesis ports the pce cd is my favorite.

Xak

^ I also remember high enemy detail in the HUCARD version. I have yet to play the CD version so I cant comment.

Next weekend cant get here fast enough!

The first 2 levels are a cake walk.  Level 3 still gives me trouble at the end. Level 4 is when it really gets challenging.  Great game.  I never have had the patience to make it to the end (maybe it should be nominated for the weekly gameplay gig) but I used to have a roommate that would play it every night for a long while and got darn close.  Those were good times. :)

All those videos, on cubex55 for retro systems, are tool assisted. As in save states and/or slow-mo (two methods for this). T-0815 (the player for this one) is one of the known TAS players. The videos aren't presented for skill, but for the enjoyment of watching a game to the end (without dieing and level replays).

PC Engine titles just picked up:
-Strider
-Macross 2036

I'm looking forward to playing these titles.  I recently fitted my Neo cab with new Sanwa JLF silent joysticks and damn, playing Turbo games with these joysticks are freaking awesome!  Not mention on a cab as well  :)

Oops, I seem to have accidentally done a region and RGB mod to it. Last time I tried to do the region mod I messed up and Beemer had to fix it, so I'm a little proud of this one even if this isn't even the most difficult mod I've done this week.

Must say the build quality is very nice.

Edit: Woops(?), my graphics card showed up.

Finally obtained Bomberman 94.

I wanted it ever since I was 7 years old. Barely knew about retro games, except for the Mario Advance games and a Bomberman PC collection.

It's like the greatest game ever (shorter than 93, but more diverse and fun gameplay). A true HuCard swan song.

I got my new (to me) PC engine in the mail! It's the white rf model.  Still pretty white but it also came with box and inserts including a warranty card signed on dec 21, 1988! Wow!!

If only I can figure how to open up and clean the thing

Got Mizubaku Daibouken CIB today! Took me 3 years of waiting to get it.

Pretty neat game. Somewhat difficult, but I'm worming my way through.

New sealed copy of Xak III arrived in the post from Japan last week. Looking forward to playing it with the translation patch.

Been waiting for this to come in for a couple weeks. I love UPL and really wanted this after beating Gomola Speed. I have it on Genesis but my cart  doesn't seem to be working anymore even after cleaning it. I just wish UPL ported Mutant Night to pce. There's cameos from Ninja Kid and Mutant Night in both these UPL releases.

Alucard655

debating on getting Tengai Makyo II and Y's IV. Playable without knowing Japanese?

Also, has anyone bought any of the PC Engine lots off of eBay? It seems like an interesting/fun thing to get just to see what all you might get and dig through.

ClodBusted

@Alucard555: There's a fan translation of Ys IV available by Burnt Projects, which will translate both text and speech.
What you still need (obviously) is the original CD.

Alucard655

I just picked up a used tennokoe bank card. What are the doss that a fan translated Ys IV will work with the original saves from the card?

csgx1

Picked up a cordless controller set that I've been wanting for awhile.  Also a couple kiddie games.
