Avoid ryoplanshop then. They refuse to combine shipping and use a service which doesn't display the postage. The last time I bought a handful of mostly cheap games from them, shipping wound up being $48. I only bought the cheap games to save on shipping a secret santa purchase.
Man, thanks for the heads up.  I still would have weighed it to get an idea, EMS rates are high but $50 for a couple of games is nuts.  For $50 I would expect it at my door in 2 days.
Well, they do throw in a free packet of green tea.

Well, looks like my games should be in within the next couple of days, maybe even tomorrow if I'm lucky. Hope to god the Tennokoe works though, I need the space badly. Still, I am annoyed it took so long, it was a few days late and I paid extra for EMS. This is the first time I have ever had EMS take more than a week, hell it was the first time it took more than about 4 days.

Still at least it looks like it's coming. If I had another lost package from Japan I think I would scream.

mossman43

I dealt with him quite a few times before and never had a problem. I recently offered him $200 for his MC and he countered with $330 + $12 shipping and stated that he wouldn't go any lower. Nowhere near the deals I used to get from him!

jperryss

Wow. What happened with the PCE version of MC? It was about $120 complete three years ago, maybe $180 a year ago (and many copies rotting on eBay around the $200 mark). Right now I only see one for almost $400.

It goes for $175 - $250 on eBay now. Ever since the Turbo version got out of control. Dynastic Hero has gone from $5 - $15 to never selling because sellers ask too much now. Just goes to show that it isn't about supply and demand.

i remember reading a thread/comments on here about a 80% new pc engine multi-tap
that really had me in stitches. HJ has it's fair shair of junk, but this shows how low some
sellers will go:

I suppose if the rom2 system works you could swap the innards over to a better looker.

Someone better link to the olde threade so newbies will know the trü storie behind that sacred 3-player tap.

Also, I am so disappointed with myself for not buying that when I had a chance. What a stupid act of frugality (to deny myself a piece of TurboHistory).

If I saw this at a garage sale I wouldn't stop to look at anything else the seller had.
Considering the advertised rom2 system was smashed and looked like I shit on it,
have they no shame.  One can only wonder what other delights they are holding back for sale,
perhaps a half eaten sandwich from the dumpster where they found this crap.
It all reflects back on the seller and how desperate they are for the dollars.

certainly can, as i said (if you are willing to take a chance on this at $195.00 excluding p+p)
and the rom2 unit works ok, is swapping out the insides a big job ?
however, a very nice (working/refurbished) unit can be had for less than $100 + p&p if you shop around

damn, had no idea hit-japan was that quick to ban...when i was buying saturn imports, i'd offer like 60-65% of his asking price, and after messaging him to say i was buying a lot, he let every one of em through.  shipping took a while, but everything showed up as promised.

as Mzo & others said, ive had better deals from Yamamatokus...thing is, with shipping prices you end up wanting to grab a few things to make it worth it.

I've always had a good experience with Hit-Japan.  His BIN prices are a bit high, but I tend to just throw about a half a dozen offers at one time, between 50%-75% of the BIN price for what is listed.  Depends upon the game and the current average prices.  He's more likely to work with you if you are buying several items.  Everything is always well-packed and in good condition.  I've only had one or two CD games that were a bit lower quality than what I'd normally expect, but still not bad.

Might also depend upon the time of day.  I always make offers in the mid evening, which would be late morning in Japan.  It's easier to work with someone when they haven't had to deal with all of the usual BS of the day.

I've only purchased from Yamatoku one one occasion.  No real problems either.  I like that he does bid auctions on most items.  I ordered a CoreGrafx from him a year ago and it literally arrived from Japan in two days.  I was shocked at how fast it was.

Shipping overall is incredibly fast in Japan. Even from Hokkaido it only usually only takes 2 days for a package to leave the country, yet when it gets here it stays in customs for a week, with a chance of up to €40 in customs charges. Thankfully most of the sellers I deal with mark packages as gifts, but I did get unlucky a few times.

Customs in Russia is the worst. I sold my Macbook Pro to a guy in Moscow and he had to pay off someone at customs for them to release it. After like 4 weeks of them holding it.

JoshTurboTrollX

I made a $14 offer on a game they listed at $18 BIN and they accepted within an hour.  Game was initially listed at $20 with a 10% off tag, but I managed to get it for $20 shipped.  win-win?

Not the greatest deal in the world, but I respect their quality and know they ship carefully.  -

I recently bought a PCE mouse from hitjapan. It was packaged well, but as soon as I unpacked it and clicked each button, it was obvious that one of them didn't work. I confirmed it with a game and was lucky enough to be able to fix it with help from this forum. But it is obvious that not only does he not test things, he didn't even do the most basic once over to see if it was physically intact. Between this and the garbage I've received in the past and how he deals with defect returns, he is definitely the one with the bad manner.

So what you're saying is, he used to take offers, but now not so much? Because I had a similar problem where he declined an offer of mine

thesteve

he takes offers, they just need to be closer to ask
odds are he would have taken 17
he wont counter offer (too much effort)

Darknessedge

I have always had good dealings with him. Bought a PSX, a few PS1, PS2, Dreamcast and Saturn games. Got it all for a good price to. Two Years ago I was buying N64 games from him, and he forgot to ship one of the games I bought, he refunded the money for the game and still sent it.

CrackTiger

He doesn't decline many of my offers. It's just totally random what he actually values each item at compared to his default prices. For some things he'll accept offers as much as 40% off the asking price, while for others he'll decline even 10% off, which defeats the whole purpose of having Offers. I've experienced the full range of accepting low offers and declining high offers both during mass buys and one-offs.

He is very random. The last game I bought from him was listed at 24.99. I think I offered 18, he countered at 22, I countered at 19, then he placed it in my shopping cart for 17... less than I originally offered! WTF?

thesteve

OGHUGO

Yes very random.  I think he or she has employees working for him/her.  who ever is there checking and how ever their day is going that is when they give you good deals.

I got a almost mint Duo RX with 6 button pad, no box.  he had it for $360 BIN, offered $300 and he took it.

Keep in mind that I always have to remind him of the thousands of dollars I have spent with him over the years (Mostly Neo Geo AES)

Got it for $350 with EMS shipping.

razo00

I use hit-japan every once and awhile.  Condition to me is important, especially my cd games. When he grades the item in b condition it usually means very good to near mint condition.  He usually accepts the offers I give him as well.  I've never had a issue with him.

MrWunderful

He has a ton of lots of hueys for sale right now.  I was tempted to buy from him.

Sounds like he may have changed the price on that one just for you. I think I'm gonna agree with him on this one.

I agree with everyone who mentions buying in bulk. A couple years back I bought a dozen or so games and each one was a best offer he accepted.

I did have an issue with a console I bought from him, but he accepted a return on it.

Making best offers on single items probably won't yield very good results. Much better to make offers on several at once.

When he sent me something broken, he told me he'd refund me the money if I removed the negative feedback (after no response from him). Then he blocked me. Sucks, but I'm glad that more and more people are realizing how douchy he can be.

Bardoly

I have ordered 3-4 times from him, and he's always treated me fairly.  I would order from him again.

Trenton_net

Usually I buy on Yahoo Japan and not Ebay, but I decided jump on the band wagon just for fun. I offered around 1100 Yen for Lemmings when his price on Ebay was about 2200-2100 Yen. The price I offered is exactly what I would pay BIN for the game on Yahoo and he rejected it.

I did not link him to the Yahoo Japan seller out of politeness,  but I could tell that he's not exactly aware of his pricing. However, if you go slightly under his ask ($4-$6 about), he'll likely accept. The big thing is, he rarely communicates to you or follows up on things if something happens, so if your looking for 'service' you probably won't get it.

You definitely can get better deals if you know a bit of Japanese. When I was bargaining with him, I always provided my offers in Yen (with dollar value) just to politely remind him what price he's choosing to accept or reject.

Dicer

Always lowballed by $4-$8 bucks on what he puts up and he has generally accepted...or I cut the price of shipping. only had him reject once and counter another time.

Halted my buying for now, but never had an issue with him as a seller.

roflmao

I've ordered from hit-japan a ton of times, and have always been happy.  But it's been awhile since my last purchase from him and I've noticed his prices are getting a lot higher.  I'm guessing his reputation has grown and he doesn't have to accept low-ball offers anymore because of all the people that pay asking price these days.  I'm glad we had him as such a good resource for as long as we did, but all good things come to an end.  :(

Bernie

Strange.  I still buy from him quite a bit, only been turned down a couple times.  I've had some quality issues a couple times, and they always handled it promptly.  Both cases ended up me being refunded and keeping the item.
