Is the plastic lens cover level with the case in a Duo

I may have botched my HOP-M3 install. The install itself went fine but when I put it back together I had "Please Set Disc" every time. I've noticed that the lens and the plastic case on it seem a little elevated from the case which I thought should have been level. Right now I am figuring out what to do and if that is in fact the problem.

Can anyone else check the inside of their Duo and see if the lens and the plastic piece are level with the rest of the case?

Dude, I wish I could help you. I'm sure someone here could be of assistance though. You are very daring performing the mod yourself, I haven't the slightest clue on how to approach that. I would like to learn though.

I checked my Turbo Duo - the lens and cover are a bit (3/32") above the case. Hopefully, somebody else can offer some possible solutions. All that I can suggest is the obvious (check all connections, etc.). Good Luck!

Yeah, I've checked the obvious. I haven't worked on it in a couple of days but I will try some stuff again tommorow or Friday

Well it's been a while but I tried once again to get my Duo to work post my attempt to upgrade the laser with no luck. Does anyone in the community know if someone is still doing repairs (D-Lite seems to be gone lately). I'm out of ideas. It seems like the disc lens is higher than it was prior to my upgrade. At this point my option is either find someone who knows how to do a repair or buy another Duo.

You could try Old School Gamer (http://www.oldschoolgamer.ca/information.aspx?SID=15). I've heard good things about them via this forum, but I don't have any personal experience dealing with them. How are you functioning without a Duo to play with for so long?

Are you sure the little piece of plastic that surrounds the lens isn't the problem? The plastic is probably raising the CD too high for the lens to read. Unfortunately, it's very difficult to set properly back into place if it's been moved for any reason.
The HOP-M3 you installed should be fine if you got it on the metal rods and the gears line up, I'm talking about the little, free-standing cover around the lens that you had to remove during your installation.
I haven't looked at the piece for a while, but IIRC, it anchors to the board in three or four places. When you have time, open up your Duo again and carefully reattach the piece. Sometimes you'll think you've done a good job and it's all locked down but one corner will still be raised ever-so-slightly. In that case, keep reattaching it until all of the anchor points are perfectly flush.
It's also easy for that piece to get bent. I think someone recently posted that they just took the piece out and everything worked fine. Good luck.

Just busy with life and other gaming related things, the fact that I messed up the HOP-M3 install last Summer kind of killed my advancement of my Turbo collection for the time being. But in that time I've been building up collections of other classic systems (Neo Geo etc). Anyway, I broke out the Duo fairly recently since so many games I already own are available for virtual console and played quite a bit, I then tinkered with the CD drive once again to see if I could rectify the problem to no avail. With a tax refund impending I may just invest in new hardware.
