Girls don't dig Bonk

Have any of you guys ever known a girl who actually owned a TG16 or a Duo?

Nowadays, it's quite common to find girls who are into, say, the PS2. Back in the 16-bit day, girls in general didn't care for games quite so much, but I've still met many who owned an SNES. Usually, it was Mario World and/or Mario Kart that reeled them in (to their credit, those are two of the very few good games for the system). I've also met a few who had a Genesis, often because of Sonic or the Disney games.

But I can't recall ever running into a girl who was into the good old Turbo. Sure, I've introduced a few to the wonders of the Duo (girls love Puyo Puyo CD). But before me, they were quite blind to the light that is Turbo greatness. What have you seen in your own experiences?

Girls probably aren't into the Turbo because Bonk is one of the very few good games for the system.

I'm trolling just as much as you are.

I had a girlfriend back in the day who liked playing Bonk's Revenge on my Turbo Express.

Each time she bonked and enemy she'd say "bonk!" out loud.

My current hetero life mate is up for any game I throw at her. She's almost finished Trojan and GnG on the Mame cabinet because I told her how impressed I'd be if she could do it.

It seems like I've never known a girl that was into Bonk. Even my wife is into the first Dragon Warrior, but, never seemed to get into Bonk. Very strange.

Yeah, I've gotta hand it to some girls. They often end up kicking ass at (what would seem to be) very unlikely games. My old girlfriend practiced at Final Lap Twin until she was finally able to stomp me, and it was her perseverance that got us through all of the mazes in Double Dungeons. Good times.

I've had the same experience. Even when I get girls into the Turbo, they never seem to give a damn about Bonk.

As crazy as it sounds my Wife actually digs Sim Earth for the Duo.

Otherwise when we get some bomberman action going she can't resist the Turbo Awesomeness!!

I don't actually know a girl that owns a TG16 or Duo, but you can as well say that not many guys do, or even know that it exists, neither.

But at any rate, there was a girl who played Bonk on my Duo quite extensively.

She played video games about as much as me (well, almost).

Might sound mythical, but it's true.

They suck at being life mates if you have to refer to them as "previous" and "current". That insinuates there will be a "future" life mate. Or at least a temporary mate.

I'd like to find a bi life mate, but I only get dirty looks (or slapped) every time that I suggest to a girl that she might enjoy the ladies as much as I do. If they would just bring a girl home for a three-way......

Back to topic:
I've never known any chicks that own turbo hardware, but a couple will humor me and play games on my Duo. Though they've always been more interested in Bomberman than Bonk - at least it's keeping it in the Hudson family.

My girlfriend's most recent interest on my Turbo is Splash Lake.

She is hooked and frequently forces me to play 2-player mode with her, collecting all the items, so that we can pass all 180 levels.

My girlfriend-of-10-years-ago had a fetish for my TurboExpress. She also demanded to play Legendary Axe all the time on my TurboGrafx. Unlike my current girlfriend, she wasn't interested in 2-player games or sharing the console with me. I seem to remember that she actually DID like Bonk and would play Bonk's Revenge from time to time although she preferred Legendary Axe.

LOL yea the Atari days were done with for the most part by 87-88. They tried to remarket that slimline 2600 and the 7800 around that time but it just didn't work. No one in those days in their right mind would have placed hard earned money on a 2600 or 7800 instead of a Nes and Contra,Zelda,Double Dragon or Ninja Gaiden or Master System with Phantasy Star,Outrun,Double Dragon, or Afterburner.

I remember my uncle thought he'd get out of getting his daughter a more expensive Nes for xmas back in 88 and he got her one of those crummy slim line 2600 decks,Moon Patrol and Ms.Pacman at Kbee Toys. She was pretty pissed,didn't even open the system. All it took was one look at the back of the game boxes and that was it. They took it back and got her a Nes on the 28th-29th.. I got a Nes,but actually I wanted a Master System,as everyone had a Nes already.

Most girls (women) I know really like(d) arcade games from the 80's... when they were young. My wife loves Ms. Pac Man, Galaga, Joust, Arkanoid, etc.

Not surprisingly, the only TG-16 games she's actually played are Galaga 88 / 90, Bomberman(s) (it's like Pac Man!)... but that was in the past few years, not back in the day. Back in the day, I only knew a few folks who had TG-16 -- no girls

My wife had an NES back in they day, but she really wasn't an avid fan of the consoles... she preferred the arcade. Today, she really likes puzzle games (on computer, like Bejeweled), DDR (arcade) and card games (you know, with actual cards).

The only games we play together these days are DDR (all of them) and XaviX Jackie Chan and Xavix Boxing -- yes, it's all about the exercise. No, she doesn't want a Wii... she thinks that "real" fitness games require a dance mat (and I agree with her!).

If I had a Power Pad + software, you know we'd try it! Alas, I don't have them for NES.

Oh man, the Power Pad kicks so much ass. Me and my bros used to have one as kids, but then it eventually got lost and we didn't purchase one again until just a couple of years ago. We don't use it much, but it does make for a fun time

. I'm not sure what the general reception is of the Power Pad, but from my experience it works surprisingly well. I was really surprised when I used it for the first time in like a decade with World Class Track Meet and how well it measured the long jumps. It's not quite like real jumping, instead it has it's own special kind of feel to it and it's really fun.

For further Power Pad fun, I recommend:

Dance Aerobics - Splendid game and light years before DDR! You can either play a mode where you immitate the exercises performed by the 80's gymnist chick (it gets really hard!) or play a fun little music mode where you step according to the beats. Hilarious game, another great one for get togethers!

Short Order & Eggsplode - OMG, TWO POWERPAD GAMES IN ONE! Short Order is like playing Simon with hamburger material. The computer tells you specific condements to use for making a burger and you have to repeat them by stepping on various spots on the Power Pad. The burgers will eventually get really tall, meaning not only will your feet get an exercise, but also your brain from all the memorizing! I can't quite remember what Eggsplode was like, but Short Order is a winner.

Street Cop - I haven't put as much time into this game as I would've liked to, but it's the most unique PowerPad game I have played. Forgive me any incorrect information, but I think this game uses both the pad and a controller. You control a cop in a sidescrolling manner and use the mat for running and jumping and the pad for attacking (?). This game is not user friendly and takes a long time to figure out, but it's pretty fun once you get the hang of it. I think the point of the game is to go around each level capturing so many baddies until you move onto the next. The levels are pretty big I think.

My girlfriend of a few years back loved Ms. Pac-Man, Galaga (on the PS... I didn't have the TG version at that time), Road Rash for the for the 3DO/PS1 (I actually loaned her my PS and that game for awhile once), and a couple of other games that I can't recall.

I've only played the Track and Field game that came with PowerPad. I didn't even know that other compatible software was realeased! Man, I'm telling you: in the next 3 years, I am going to get the games you listed and a Power Pad!

Yeah, but this was someone I met in Japanese class years ago so she probably doesn't count since the gamer/geek percentage in an envirionment like that is so much higher (and more hardcore) than the general population.

. According to Wikipedia, there are two other PowerPad compatable games as well: Atheltic World and Super Team Games . I'll definitely have to get these games someday to complete our PowerPad collection!
