Holy shit on a piece of toast, I just did an eBay search for Lords of Thunder, and I'm now realizing that the game I bought brand new for about $35 from TZD during their final days is now apparently worth hundreds of dollars to the lunatics on eBay. I'm starting to think that I should invest in a safe!

Which really sucks since LoT is an amazing piece of shooting bliss. Never played the Sega CD versions but I'm sure they won't be spared from the price hikes.
My past-life would've surely led to our demise, and I had left it not a moment too soon. Our escape, though dangerous, had gone well. The train ride, sunlight, and passing snow-covered pine trees came together in a flickering show of our bright, new future together. Her head rested on my shoulder as she soundly slept to the gentle rocking of the passenger car. We felt freedom. We felt peace.

I gave up on the US version, and just picked up the PCE release instead. I love games with low language barriers  8)

It's like people just randomly pick games and go "Yes, now is the time to gouge the hell out of this game!"  It really can't be because the game is becoming hard to find.  It probably has the most cd copies out there than the other U.S. SCD based games.

I bought a brand new one off of ebay maybe 2 years ago, and I was also buying NES carts for a couple bucks a piece around the same time.  I don't know what happened since then, but you could buy those for 3-4 bucks a piece - nowadays everything is grossly inflated.  I've heard a few theories that some of the Let's Play type shows on youtube are driving up interest, who knows?  In some of the other forums I haunt, people consider the TG-16 some kind of hidden gem, which is weird since most of us here have had our consoles since launch.

I do know that this doesn't help. Example; Game Grumps covered Pocky & Rocky and the already expensive game got a whole lot more expensive. Love those guys, but it gets kind of annoying that you almost have to pick up any retro game they play that looks decent the second they start showing it off otherwise might be a pain later to snag for a good price.

Yeah, it'll only be a matter of time before every decent game will have this happen to it.  I guess it's not a total loss if you can't get one game or another thanks to emulation, so at least everybody will be able to play.  But of course it's almost an entirely different experience to have the real thing!

The worst effect I've ever seen was when Mike Matei released this video on the AVGN's channel. (James and Mike are best buds, free publicity for Mike). Almost every game in his list spiked by 50% or more in the following months... Hagane had it the worst - it spiked from being a $50-60 game, all the way up to $350. It now goes for $250 regularly.

The video was released in July of 2012. I realize most people here don't like VGPC, but their charts tell the story.

That is an insane amount of control over the video game market.

It's not one guy making a video "controlling" the market; look at their index for all SNES licensed games and you'll see the same exact trajectory.

Supply and demand, that's capitalism for you.

johnnykonami

Kicking myself for not getting some games before they took off... I cringe a little when a new Game Center CX or AVGN or similar is released featuring a game I haven't yet gotten for myself.  I always hope to see more PC Engine on GCX, maybe it's good that I don't!

Which is why its roms and flash carts for me.  Anything retro that's non Obey CD, is best played that way.  Frigging insane, stop the insanity...don't buy shit.

I don't see anything out of the ordinary with those game charts.
-Wild Guns
-Hagane
-Knights Of The Round
-King Of The Dragons
-FirePower 2000
It looks to me like a big spender caused a spike in the prices and they seem to come down just as fast.
Haven't one or two of those games been slated on Game Sack etc (FirePower 2000 sticks out)
so they're not all 'top quality' games.
Someone wasn't sucking up the cream of snes games, just the CIB copies, which always command a premium whatever the format and this naturally dragged up the unboxed versions as well.

It's not super cut and dry, but for sure it is. Only difference is that the demand is manufactured.

Unfortunately, so is supply, as resellers buy up multiple copies of games with inflation potential, then sit on stacks of them and only trickle them out at strategic times. The "market" is no longer enthusiasts buying, selling and trading games.

Didn't know CDi controllers were that expensive.
It's hard to find ones that still work. My CDi's controller works, the remote doesn't. I only use it for Tetris and I can't tell you the last time I even hooked it up. Unless you have childhood memories of the CDi there's not much reason to own one imho.

Kinda figured, I think one of the only games I would play on a cdi would be The Seventh Guest, but that may be on other consoles, so whatevs.

On my ebay app I saw a Terraforming sell for $99 BIN a few days ago.  A suspiciously similar looking Terraforming posted for $750 BIN tonight.  Sorry I am mobile and linking is a pain in the ass.

Not exactly gouging, but this still brings my blood to a boil. Is it even legal to pass this off as "Unreleased"?
It's definitely gouging, seeing as you can buy it from the maker for half (which is still much too high).

This same conversation came up a while back about Fighting Street.
I dont remember the outcome.
Carry on.

Bernie

Strangely enough, I HAVE gotten a CD game, maybe two...that came in a sealed box from the factory, and ALSO had the jewel case sealed.  So, it very well could be something like that.  I am not sure why this happened back then, but I am sure there was some sort of method behind the madness.

Sparky

Yep I had a sealed box and the CD game sealed as well for Lords of the Rising Sun.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is why I stay far, far away from that site. Fuck NA. Between the VGA-sucking asshats and the rock-headed reselling assholes, there's little left there for genuine gaming fun.

What the hell is wrong with Nintendo owners? Do they think they have the only video game console ever made? or the only games worth anything? These guys are fucking stupid. I own a Nintendo, in fact I own many Nintendo systems and games but I don't see them as $$$ dollar signs, I see them as entertainment. If you want to make money on a hobby get in to baseball cards and wait 50 years. For Christ sake BOYCOTT NINTENDO AGE, It seems like there are way too many douches and not enough vaginas to clean over there. I could be wrong, after reading a few post, there are a lot of "I have sand in my vag" members........who knows, who cares, let them do what they want, you won't see me over there.
