By the time this game came out in April 1992, the PCE had done more to establish itself as the king of shooters than any other system. When you think about it, is there any other way Hudson could have pulled off such a charming parody?

For the uninitiated, Star Parodier is a parody of the Star Soldier series, which of course was also made by Hudson. You had Star Soldier, Super Star Soldier, Final Soldier and Soldier Blade, and then you had this game.

It is, admittedly, a little on the easy side. Actually, that's an understatement - you might be able to beat it on your first try. But that's all the more reason for you to play it! The neat-o special effects, the pleasant CD music, and the fact that you can actually play as a freakin' PC Engine should also encourage you plenty.

I would like to suggest Hana Taka Daka but I don't think many people own the game so not sure if it would work.

Yay, I love this game! It's dead easy , and not really suitable for high score contests or anything (the last stage practically throws extra lives at you, and starts you back at the beginning after you die), but man does it have personality.

It's like a love letter to Hudson fans

One of my all-time favorite games!  I have a 1cc clear on youtube (as others have mentioned that's not terribly challenging) that I'll post here after the week is up.  If I'm awake enough after I finish catching up with the forums, I'll go play it again tonight!

I just received it by mail! Made it to stage 5 without loosing upgrades and then the egyptian boss depleted all my lifes. Its a very cool game, very easy to pick up, but don't loose your upgrade past stage 5 or it will start to get harder to replenish it.

I had no idea this almost came out in the US.  Sucks it didn't!  I kinda miss TTI.  I'd love to go back in time and get some of those harder to get games right at the end like DE II, Bonk 3 and Magical Chase.  Anyway, I wish I could join you guys in playing this week, but I don't have my copy yet.  One day!

Don't worry, toktogul.  Play it a few more times and you'll 1cc it no problem.  Regardless of how easy it is, it's still one of my all-time favorite games!

I would like to suggest Hana Taka Daka but I don't think many people own the game so not sure if it would work. 

Thanks for the suggestion. Hana Taka Daka looks interesting, but it also looks a little on the expensive side, in addition to being an import. Let's try to keep things cheap for a little while longer, and for Hucards at least, stick to domestic releases as much as possible.

Any other ideas? Anybody?

I suggest Genjin tsuushin Agetama. Its a hucard game and its a ton of fun

otherwise, if its not a good suggestion, i would like yo suggest any game in the download serie

I spent the past hour+ playing Star Parodier and it's been a hoot!  I made it to the mid-level boss on the final level (the one guy that swings the morning star-like weapon and has 2 fire-cauldrons) but choked.  I know I'm having a good game when I can beat him.  Tonight wasn't my night, but I'll probably give it another go tomorrow, when I don't have beer in me.

Good job! i gave it another go last night, and made it again  to stage 5. whats your trick for the third phase of te egyptian boss? Ihe is huge and shoots homming lazers.

Yeah, he always gives me trouble too. The lazers aren't the hard part.  The huge flamethrower is when he becomes really tricky for me. My strategy is to have a lot of lives stored up.

My preferred ship/weapon/option combo is PCE/homing missiles/swirling controllers.  As long as you can avoid the lazers, you'll still do damage to it, but he gets really tricky.

The main issue I have is that once I get to that boss I usually have 13-14 lifes stacked up, but then when I die 2-3 times during the fight, they put me back at the beginning of the pyramid part. (edit: after readin the manual, I figured out that the hearts are what brings you back to life after you die instead of bringing you back to the begining of the section)

 If i die once, it's back to the beginning again, with little to no power ups on the way. I'M getting good at making my way to the boss without dying, but without any power ups, I have to kill the boss without being touched.

Last phase, I just can't figure out his pattern quick enough and I have to redo it all over again. I'll give it another go right now, hopefully i can make it to the boss with shield+ weapon upgrades

Stage 6 is hardcore as well. I'll practice a lot!
Update : stage 6-7 clear! Stage 6 boss is just too awesome, no spoiler, you guys gotta play this game it's full of surprises!


Update 2 : Stage 8 final boss is a monster. Got destroyed sooo hard!

Update 3 : Stage 8 Clear, I finished my first SHMUPS! I'm sooo happy!
