On a serious note, I knew a guy that "pulled the trigger" on that option. He was 28-29 I recall. I kinda feel bad about it cause I didn't take him too seriously and didn't think it'd actually happen. Now the guy had ruined his life due to drug abuse so his state of mind to get the there was understandable. Alcohol, pot, crack, ecstasy, everything, etc. so he was pretty f--ked up. He was an old friend of my neighbor/friend Pete who came to hang out with him in his final days.

So, he kept bothering Pete, telling him, "Dude, you're the closest thing that I have to a friend in this world, I need your help with this... It's the one thing that I want." Well, turned out Pete had a rope in his attic, a real one, for climbing and what not. He showed him how to tie a noose, handed it off to him and the rest is history... I feel like a douche cause on the last day that I saw him, I knew about it and joked around with him never fully realizing his cries for help were that genuine. So the guy leaves, next day, I get a text message cause I was on his Contacts; the sister had taken his phone and sent a global text message to all contacts saying that he had passed away last night, etc. etc. and this number will be no longer available soon.

Dude f--king hung himself in his house... He f--king did it... I tell Pete, WTF, he was serious all along and you're the guy that provided the rope ? I called back and the sister picked up cause I wanted to confirm, and yeah, holy f--k, and the thing is I probably shouldn't have cause then she tried to probe me on where he got the rope... I listed posibilities like the local ACE hardware within walking distance of Pete's home and so forth, and tried to get out of the conversation and simply state my condolences. Anyway, Pete was pretty depressed about it and given they were basically drug buddies far too lost in the druggie culture, he too met an untimely end but his OD was likely accidental.

The other case that comes to mind with me is none other than ole B.J.DeuceBag, AKA Jeff Nussbaum, the cock-flasher of the Neo-Geo.com forums and the main translator that I worked with on Ys translation projects besides Shimarisu.

In the course of manipulating me, the criminal revealed that he once tried to kill himself - didn't specify how, but he failed... His last pity pitch to get my work hours when it came to the Ys Origin Falcom title in 2007 added that he walks with a cane due to hip pain and/or knee damage, needs daily drugs to keep his mind functional mood-wise and so forth, and translating Ys games is one of "the only things in his life that he's proud of" in his otherwise disgusting life... I also knew about his bankruptcy, but did NOT know he was flashing his cock for said Neo-Geo.com forums, AND fantasizing about killing them, outright WRITING homicidal rants that they need to kill themselves AND their families (that's right, he involved their kids in this rants, adding that they shouldn't have reproduced!) and a % he'd like to help kill painfully himself ("contribute to your agonizing demise," he said)...

So, I would've just continued my projects with Shimarisu or someone else. Now she too probably would've cheated me when the XSEED Games situation came up, but I probably would've had a better chance with her than with him given the particular callous/cruel hatred-filled nature that I now recognize in his arrogant, bigoted brain, etc. She did apologize to me years later for selling Ys IV CD-Rs on eBay behind our backs. DeuceBag just continued to play stupid for 3 years about what happened with XSEED and his final response about cheating me was "Cry me a river..."

The first thing everyone needs to realize is that the purpose of life is probably not to just have fun and make our little bodies feel pleasure all the time. Feeling shitty isn't so bad if one remembers that life isn't supposed to be an amusement park.

Second, regardless of religious affiliation or belief in life after death, suicide is stupid because it's impossible to destroy anything, energy just transforms. Chances are our souls keep floating around after death, dealing with the same shitty problems, but without the convenience of a body to focus attention and conduct business in the physical world. Best to work and learn as much as possible while still in our flesh sacks, because shit's not going to get any easier.

Suicide sucks, nothing good about it.  You make your own choice sure but you leave your family nothing, not even your own respect.  I dont like it when people refer to suicide as an easy way out.  Sure it may be easier than the alternative but there isnt anything easy about choosing to end your own life.  I am not referring to the people who attempt to use it for attention but the people who seriously have contemplated how they will do it and accomplish it.  Nothing easy about that and it is a very selfish thing to do.  You hurt all the people around you even though you think there arent anyone there for you.  just imagine the person who has to find you and what its going to do to them.

I know of 2 people that commited the act and one person that almost did.  2 horrible reasons in all 3 cases.  The largest problem is that a person honestly convinces themself that suicide is the best option.  They honestly tell themself that dead is better than the pain they feel or fear.  Its not about retaliation; its about makign your own pain go away.  Sure you hear people say "see how she feels when I am dead" ect but thats just the pain surfacing.  I can tell you first hand that the human mind has the abiltiy to convince you that your making the right choice and self preservation is no longer a basic necessity.  Its scary that the mind of a otherwise normal person can become so currupt to just give up.

Those that use suicide as a cry for help kinda get under my skin becuase they blind us to those who will do it.

We make fun of the concept and even tell people we dont like to go commit suicide but in reality, its not something any of us want to see.  If you think you do then you have some issues to iron out yourself.

To be honest, it's something I've dealt off & on with since I was in my teens.  The urge to commit suicide, I mean.  I was taking sertraline (SSRI, antidepressants) for awhile but it made me lose my appetite & gave me mad diarrhea.  Seriously, like, every bowel movement was straight liquid.  I even had a couple accidents because I trusted a fart when I definitely shouldn't have.  I've since quit the pills & the poop issues have gone away, but the depression is back full-force.  So do I deal with manic depression & self-hatred, or have runny shits forever?

A good outpatient mental health clinic will have, in addition to their counselors/psychiatrist, an doctor/admin that specializes in and oversees the administering of prescriptions/anti-depressants. They usually pull you in for assessments every couple months to make sure you are at the right dosage and on the right drug, and not suffering any really negative side effects.

If any doctor who prescribed you on a anti-depressant willingly left you on one that constantly gave you the liquid shits, they were doing it wrong, let alone risking you to dehydration. Not everyone reacts the same to everything, so it is trial and error sometimes until they get you in the zone. The point of the meds is to help improve your quality of life, not make it worse. They should be prescribing you on a different med.

Also should point out, because people do tend to make this mistake some times. It is really not ideal to let your family doctor prescribe you anti-depressants. Some people do this, go to the family doctor, tell them about their depression, and the doctor ends up prescribing them one of the only few anti-depressants he has any general knowledge of. Odds are they didn't major in psychology and are not really adept at helping patients battle chronic depression, nor will they have vast knowledge on all the different drugs available to help treat it, and there really is more involved in treating depression then just taking the meds. A psychiatrist can help give teach you methods to help cope with and over come your depression/mood swings. If you are suffering chronic depression, it would be best to make a appointment with an actual clinic that has a legit psychiatrist on hand.

ALL I CAN ADD is that at one point it can get better, but it takes a lot to get there as far as effort. you must try to do things that will not magnify the problems, but many times it is  hard due to your circle, family, or money. but keep trying. if you give up the world will keep on going but some will be scarred. and most likely not the ones you actually want to hurt.

Venom, Like professor pointed out, get a different more qualified doctor.  You shouldnt have to deal with issues like this and feeling that way you do is no way to go through life.  The right meds are available, you just need a good doctor to identify them.

My doctor did, in fact, prescribe different pills for me...but I'm hesitant to take them.  Aside from the runs, the pills made me develop and apathetic attitude about pretty much everything.  They also made me a little more quick to anger, which is odd because I'm not at all an angry person.  I don't want to be depressed...but at the same time, I don't want to not feel like myself.  It's just hard to self-treat your depression when you feel like an idiot for trying to ignore the fact that the world is a giant ball of shit...that you are a giant ball of shit.  Ignorance really is bliss.

Try Wellbutrin with Lamictal. Worked wonders for me.

Yeah certain anti-depressants will affect your anger swings.  A guy at work had the same issues but I forget what script he was on (i think it was welbutrin but I cant be sure).  His mood swings were so bad he actually headbutted another guy I work with and took a swing at me.  If we didnt make an effort to try and understand what he was going through, he would have lost a 150K/year job.  Try explaining that to a doctor.

Take the meds, Listen to your doctor (or someone with a degree) with what to take; no one else.  Keep in mind some will work and some wont.  Stay on top of the doctor when they make you sick till he finds the right one.  If anything, enjoy being a pain in his ass!

Venom, sorry to hear about your issues. Guess we better dial back any urge on the jokes. I think if your life is so bored out then maybe changing your environment would help, move to another city, gain new experiences, or if that's just not in the cards to get some traveling done, see the world, etc. How much of your current environment is responsible for your depression/boredom that suicide is a thought that occurs to you ? Versus, how much of the brain chemistry is responsible for it ?

I dunno, I mean I was ill-equipped to advise the guy that hung himself and he asked me and anyone he ran into what to do about it - I had never met someone in his state and didn't realize how serious he was. He tried multiple times, filling the bathtub with water and throwing a blow dryer in it with himself in it as well. The GFCI protection foiled his attempt that time though. Dude bought like 30 ecstasy pills and tried to OD on 'em to die painlessly, but that failed. Wasn't the first time he played hangman either, but the rope was too weak and gave out. Pete's rope unfortunately was the real deal climbing rope so that was the end... It's what he really wanted and begged for it which kinda gets us to the issue of euthanasia and how one feels about that.

Having struggled with something similar in the past, I can tell you that what helped most was exercise.  More than any prescription or talk therapy, exercise changed everything.  The key is just getting started, and in the state you're in, you probably can't find the energy to do all that much.  The fog will lift though, I promise!

It's only against the law if ya get caught. If you fail at an attempt oh man...I can't think of anything worse. For me it's the chicken shit way out, face the problems in life head on and overcome, thats really the only answer. If every time something went wrong I tried to kill myself I would have been dead a million times over. I know for some people it's not so easy to face problems due to the unique situation of the person but... you just have to find a way to muster up the courage to continue on and show the world your not a chicken shit douche bag and get past it. For me thats the fuck you world I made it, even though it will try to beat you down time and time again it's the little victory of making it through. So I say to anyone who has thought or is thinking about it, never give up the fight, your time is short enough here without trying to make it shorter....enjoy your friends, family and forumites.
