Other than obeying (or other gaming), what are your hobbies?

What other hobbies do you enjoy, other than playing games? Hiking? Building miniatures? Collecting Slovakian porn?

I am into cars. I love to read about cars. Talk about cars. Work on cars. Watch cars race (except for NASCAR).

I am currently in the process of narrowing down my next daily driver for next year when it comes to buy.
I have it down to either an Acura TL type S, Mitsubishi Evo X (or Ralliart), or Pontiac G8 GT. Then in 2021, I will be importing a Mitsubishi Evo IV as my weekend car.

So lets hear your hobby (or hobbies). What occupies your time when you are not playing games?

NecroPhile

I like cars too, but I don't watch 'em race and my repair work is limited to relatively easy stuff like oil changes and brakes.  I also like riding my bike and masturbating but not at the same time.... that's a mistake you only make once.
Ultimate Forum Bully/Thief/Saboteur/Clone Warrior! BURN IN HELL NECROPHUCK!!!

mitsuman

I do not watch them race as much as I used to. More just watch clips on youtube when I get a chance.

What do you ride?

I need to get back into riding again. I started this year after buying a new road bike, but then fell out of habit rather quickly. I am going to start again when it warms up. Need to drop a bunch of weight, plus I like the "alone" time I get on a bike.

munchiaz

I enjoy building Gundam models. I also play Magic the gathering.

NecroPhile

I miss riding during the winter months; I can bundle up and handle the cold just fine, but the bike doesn't shift or brake well below freezing and it's often too wet and messy for riding.  Part of why I want to buy a house is so I can set up a nice stationary bike for riding while watching the idiot box (maybe gaming too if I can handle a controller and not fall off the bike), and a dedicated ball gag and zipper mask room of course.

Oh, another hobby of mine is reading.  It's mostly Stephen King, Frank Herbert (and his son's meh Dune stuff), and Tolkien books, but I also read a couple different magazines and various flavor of the month books that look good but usually disappoint.

mmm DSM tasty. Cars are my other hobby as well. I have a fully built '96 Eagle Talon TSI /Mitubishi Eclipse GSX (turbo, all wheel drive) that i spent a few years building (15 months just to build motor in my garage  8)). So in my book you need to get another Mitsu! Also i'm into older cars. My new project is a '72 Plymouth Gran Fury. I'm really feeling the last of era muscle cars. Here's a couple pics of both cars.

I asked for an indoor trainer thing for Christmas. Hopefully I'll get it and I can set it up in our basement during the winter months so I'm not so sluggish in the spring.

I've been trying to pick up reading again too. Started reading Sagan's Cosmos. But then picked up a book called "10 myths about evolution". Saw it referenced in an article I read, and sounded interesting. Basically it straightens out the main misconceptions of evolution.

I am a HUGE Tolkien fan. I've started reading The Silmarillion at least 3 times, and have never made it all the way through.
What do you think of the LOTR and Hobbit movies? I was happy to see that world come to life, but was not real happy with the liberties Jackson took with making the stories a little different.

Beautiful cars man. I have owned a few 1g DSMs. My favorite was a Talon TSi AWD. It was beat to hell on the outside, but ran like a champ. Sold it for a measly $1,500 and regretted it instantly.
Have you dyno'd your DSM?

No, there's a few dyno's here in town but last guy i knew with an awd dyno closed a few years back. It's has a 1g block and 2g head. 16g turbo with headers, 560cc injectors 3" exhaust, ecm programmed/tuned @ 18psi, evo rims etc. Pulls fast, gets me lots of tickets sigh.

BlueBMW

Aside from all the video / computer game related stuff and board games I like cars too.  Imagine that ;)

I favor BMWs though... Older are better.  I do also like watching racing (except NASCAR!)

I liked the LotR movies, but I've not seen the Hobbit ones yet.  Methinks it would've been better to leave it as just one movie (maybe two) instead of stretching it out into a trilogy.

I like cars as well.  I like working of my Evo and plan to build the engine soon to make over 600WHP.  It's very fast now but why not faster?

I also like working on my Waverunner, it has over 300HP now and really moves.  Basically anything fast.

When I'm not being a disgusting lazy slob, I enjoy getting into the mountains for hiking/camping/skiing. I really do like to program, but these days it's incredibly hard to motivate myself to do so after work. Also I like to drink beer and post stupid stuff on pcefx. :D

EDIT: Oh yeah, I like cars too, though what little I knew about them in terms of actually working on one I've forgotten since highschool. I've told myself if I can get in shape, I'll buy myself a Chevy SS. Yeah yeah, I know, but I've got a weak spot for Holden.

FiftyQuid

I was pretty big into off-roading 10 years ago.  Then my first child was born and I sold my lifted Jeep Cherokee for something a little more practical.

Nowadays my kids are my hobby.  When they are not pestering me I can be found playing, fixing or reading about pinball.  Currently I have one machine (which I bought after selling off some Turbob).  I have my eye on another machine come March/April time frame.

I also have a PS3, NES and SNES, but they haven't been on in months.  Lately I've been playing Clash of Clans on my stupid Samsung S4.
I'm busy playing pinball, but I still drop by to visit.

ClodBusted

I enjoy the heck out of building and running R/C cars. Especially Tamiya ones. Well, solely Tamiyas.

Other than that, I do the occasional 10 km jog on weekends, but haven't taken part in proper competitions for years. The last one was the 21 km half-marathon in 2007, I guess. Having somebody to talk to while running makes shedding sweat more enjoyable.

I've recently got into scale model kit building. I started with two small resin model kits when I attended an Anime model kit workshop at the Animagic convention, and now I'm meeting other kit builders every once in a while in a local Games Workshop store. It's funny to see that all the other participants of these meets are female, while they build and paint some scantily clad female Anime figures. I for myself am trying to build this cute little Macross thingy right now:

I liked the LOTR movies more than the Hobbit movies. It took me a year to see the second hobbit. I will probably wait another year to see the last hobbit movie.

600hp should not be too hard to get out of the 4g63, should it?

That's why I keep eye balling the G8 GT. I would think the Chevy SS would be too far out of my price range for now.

I bought a cheap telescope for my girls last year for christmas. I have never gotten around to getting it put together for them. I really want to though. I grew up looking at the night sky through a telescope a lot, and would like them to do the same if they are interested.

I have a dream to open a pinball arcade/bar/ice cream shop in my town's downtown. Not sure I'll ever get to it though. I went to one earlier this year when my wife and I were visiting Seattle, and it was so much fun. I forgot how awesome pinball games are.

R/C stuff is great. I fight the urge to buy one every time I see something interesting online or in a hobby store. I used to have an R/C arena truck. It was so much fun working on it, and driving it. But costly.

Also, wanted to add, as of late (the past 5 years or so), I have become a huge fan of classic Japanese cars. Old Celicas, Lancers, and nearly anything from the late 70's. Some were mimicking the US muscle cars of that era, but with a Japanese style all their own.

EvilEvoIX

After I build my motor 600WHP is just a matter of Boost and fuel.  A Built 20 can handle 1000WHP easily with some proper I-Beam rods.  I will probably be in the 35-38PSI range to keep things simple, maybe a Buschur Double pumper but that's really it.

Besides gaming, like NecroPhile, I like to go on long bike rides. I am fortunate enough to live near several bike paths that were converted from old railroad routes. During the summers I usually go on 25-30 mile rides passing through some beautiful forest preserves and lakes. I like being outdoors in general as I enjoy hiking and going on jogs.

I am a fan of baseball. I am not as much into the sport as I was during my college and high school days where I was an avid competitor in fantasy baseball. My team is the White Sox.

From time to time I like working on 1,000 piece puzzles, specifically the ones that are photomosaic which is pretty much a collage.

On Saturday mornings I love going garage and estate sale hunting for video games and music related items.

I have a very unique taste in music as I enjoy listening to power metal and folk metal. But I also enjoy listening to 90's Alt Rock as well as 80s-90s synthpop.

Lastly, I spend copious amounts of time browsing DoxPhile...

I was actually getting into bike rides before the weather got pretty bad. I found a cheap bike for sale on the side of the road and put a few bucks into making it ride. It is my getting around bike when I'm at school. It was a nice ride to the post office which was on the other side of town (in Charleston, IL where i go to school). Unfortunately it's in my closet now, so i can't wait until it gets nicer so i can explore the town more.

If there is any sport I really like, it's baseball. I'm a White Sox fan as well. They seem to be picking up some good people this offseason. Has me excited for next year! I hope i can make to a few more games next summer since I only made it to one last year.

In Ohio?  Maybe.  My biggest fear is getting on the track and snapping a transfer case.  I would have to just roll out of the pit and then get on it which is what I normally do.  I can cut low 1.6 60 foots and have nailed a 1.58 on all season tires spinning all 4 through 1st.

Maybe I'll go, I live right by Dogbox so I may go with them.

I had an '82 Datsun 200SX back in the mid-90's. It was a lot of fun.

I AM NOT A CAR PERSON.

Now, I drive a 1996 Honda Civic CX hatchback. Utilitarian, but I like it. 300,000+ miles.

I love hiding in the bathroom and reading.

Hiking/Biking/Swimming. Preferably in that order.

I read. All the time. Akin to video games, I read old stuff. Academic articles to classic plays to pulp sci-fi.

I like photography.

I love goofing around in PhotoShop.

I love arty film, as in...Luis Bunuel and Jean Luc Godard and Antonioni and all that. I see the beauty in "trashy" film, too....horror/sci-fi from 60's to 80's is irresistible.

I like music from (nearly) all sources and genres (I have very eclectic tastes. I love commercial pop music as well as quirky, non-commercial stuff). The past 100+ years of recorded music is fair game. Electronic music is my fave, though.

I've owned two Zs. A '91 TT and a '93 2+2 that I still have.  Sadly, my Z has been sitting for years since it needs work and I haven't had the time.

It looks like the Sox are making a run for it in 2015. Their pitching is significantly improved with Samardzija and the added bullpen help. I think the signing of Adam LaRoche was smart as the team needed a left handed bat after the departure of Dunn. I still think the team could make some improvements, ie second base and another bullpen arm. I am not sure if I am ready to call the Sox the favorite to win the division, but I think they will be in the hunt the whole season. Detroit will take a hit losing Scherzer and Porcello. The Royals haven't done much to add to their roster.

Actually, old school gaming took over my car obsession after I had kids.  I love the 1st and 2nd Gen Taurus SHO (I currently have a 95' with mainly suspension and brake mods).  My fastest vehicle was actually a Grand Prix GTP that had a Whipple and a whole list of mods.  I also currently have a minty 86' LeBaron GTS turbo I had been collecting parts for enough mods to safely make 20 PSI.  I have lost interest in that and will probably be getting rid of it soon.

I also watch racing but prefer local short tracks.  NASCRAP really got ruined after Brian France took over so I don't watch it anymore.  Before kids I also raced in various FWD stock car classes in Michigan and Indiana.

I still have some older video rattling around on my YouTube channel.  Youtube.com/shoracer14

Funny how many of you dig cars.  To the OP.  For a daily go with the G8 GT.   You can't beat the bang for the buck.  I have been looking for a good deal on a G8 GXP but they're hard to come by.  I have to make a new daily driver purchase myself, one that can handle 3 kids with seats/boosters and 2 adults.  I think I've decided on a few year old Ford Flex with the EcoBoost.  It may be an ugly brick but at least it will move out of it's own way unlike our 03' Town and Country.

That's funny, my gaming hobby picked back up because I'm between "weekend" cars. Had to spend my money and occupy my time somehow!

And I've looked into G8 GXPs as well, but they are out of my price range.
And unfortunately, my wife likes the looks of the G8 the least out of the three cars I'm looking at. Since she will be driving it from time to time as well, she gets a small say in the decision.

Have any pics of the Lebanon?

And good luck on your car search. Luckily we have a Sienna to haul our kids around in for the most part. So I can get a decently "fun" car as my next daily.

Agreed.  I've always wanted one.  I drove a twin turbo once that was a pile.  It misfired and needed major mechanical attention.  All of those problems on top of the huge wing, ugly chrome wheels and a front bra hiding front end damage.  I was thinking it was a $2500 car.  The owner was thinking it was a $5000 car.  Needless to say I didn't buy it

@Desh  Bwuhaha the memories...sniff good times, my step brother had a light blue older version of this when I was in middle school. Drove us everywhere, so embarrassing lol but he was proud cause it had a turbo. Of course back then I had no idea what he was talking about lol!

Nice Desh! My buddy used to have a baby blue dodge lancer (same car, different name). Me and my other buddy always tried to talk him into pulling a turbo system off a junkyard car and slap it in his Lancer.

I have way to many hobbies for time.

Lets start with Automotive, been a mechanic for years so naturally auto building is one.  From antique restoration to fabricating, engine building, Trans building, rear end building, MIG TIG and Lil Arc welding, Roll cage building, Only thing I don't do is paint.  Been doing a lot of this for 30+ years.  Followed my father.  Current Toy is a 69 Superbee. Future toy sitting waiting is a 97 Z28 (been in the family since new), DSM is back to factory although fun while it lasted, it was still a 4 cylinder and lacked that thing called torque.  Currently daily driving and wishing someone would t-bone it.

Harley's, one custom chopper I built, all the frame work is mine (raked to 43* with 4 inch front stretch), ect ect.  Second one is a 96 Softail.

Skydiving instructor....RW, Wingsuit, Tandem.  Since 07.  Currently own Dynamic Velocity LLC.

Pyrotech for Ace Pyro in Michigan.  Started a year ago and still working on the last portion of my licensing.  By far one of the most interesting hobbies I have picked up.

This year I started AR15 building.  80% lowers no numbers is the way to go.  For fellow gun nuts, Collections consists of more glocks than needed, Kimber Warrior, Sig P250, couple Mosins, MP15 Sport, Custom build 556, second Build Started 6.8, M82 Barrett.  Not a bad start for the past year.

Video games are just a way to kill time when i have it.  NEC mostly, some NES, Very few Wii, And a PS3.
Games currently in play:
PS3: COD Ghosts
TG16: Boxyboy

Good lord man! You are one busy fella.

Because i have a 3 year old boy, one of my hobbies is Thomas the Train.
For me, i skateboard, which most already know.
I have also recently rekindled my collecting of classical music vinyl. I blame a recent Chopin piece that I recently found for lighting the fire again.

A short term hobby of mine has been working on an unboxing video of a raffle i won here, but its been slow going.

I will also beat most of you in darts.

Super pic. You wrecked some weeds, trashed them, then tipped over their coffin, and jumped over them on your skateboard?

An awesome send-off, for some weeds. I can only hope similar, for myself. :)
