Your new TG16/CD collection purchases for the month?

Well after several dry months of not uncovering any new Obey .. I get a facebook message out of the blue.  Local collector saw a comment where I alluded to my retro collections main focus being TG16 and PCE.  Informs me he has a TG16 CD-Rom addon he'd be willing to part with.  Having seen alot of beat up, loose, needing repair units I advised him to send me some photos, and a ballpark price.  I didn't wait around for the photos, but when I checked the next morning it was a boxed TG16 CD-Rom addon    Well, now he has my attention.  Box looks to be ~7/10, but he gives a backstory that the unit itself was found in a warehouse that use to give out promotional items. So he said despite wear and tear from being moved around all these year, the internal contents are mint .. and that he believes the system has never been used. So anyway, this is what I picked up. I included photos taken during the unboxing as it really does appear this has never been used. The content are indeed very very clean. I am a very very happy Obey-er at this point.

It came with 4 CD games (Exile, Sherlock Holmes Consulting Detective, Buster Bros. , and Neo Nectaris). Assuming seller came by this via other means as they were not sealed, and Neo Nectaris is missing manual.

Alittle look around the backside .. thinking I can gently remove some of these light marks. Will leave it for now however.

Again .. all styrofoam, packaging is mint.  Really starting to believe this was new sold at retail or used.

I'm very pleased with this find.  This was something I never got to purchase new as a teenager.  I recall going into my local Radio Shack and looking at it, but was a young teenager and just didn't have the funds to grab one.

In my travels as an adult, not something I've come across.  Occasionally seeing various loose, in poor to good condition. So had to jump at this when the opportunity arose.

Comrade, I loved all the pictures. I don't remember the back of the box at all. I love seeing that sort of thing.

I am not a tech guru, but many folks here have suggested that cleaning off old grease and putting new lithium grease on sled will help (something about old lubricant, especially if left unused for long periods, can become "gunk" and may put stress on the plastic gears.

Anyway, someone else with actual tech experience can help you more than I can

+1 on re-greasing the gears and sled.  What's on there now is probably dried up useless.

I don't normally collect cardboard. Really only made the exception lately for some Obey related items. Just something about the nostalgia for me, from either items I owned as a teenager, or wished I had owned (and visited at the local Radio Shack). 

So I had to jump on this quickly .. not sure if the price was low, fair, or high.  But I wanted it, and I am comfortable with the price I paid (which I think too many people lately worry about what others think was a deal or not)

I got the bundle (and I needed Buster Bros., Sherlock Holmes, Neo Nectaris for my collection and the case/spine to complete my Exile) for $300 Canadian (so ~$250 USD) and it was a local pickup so no shipping (and given the size of this box was glad I didn't need to get shipping on it)

I will look into greasing the gears and sled before I test the unit.  Do you know of any links that could show me that process ? or should I ping Turbokon or Keith Courage to ask for how-to help ?  I am not someone who typically takes stuff apart these days.  So would be a complete newbie with this.

Welcome, Vmorr! That's a pretty nice starter kit you got there. And a decent price to boot. Bloody Wolf, Military Madness, both of the Crush games (please chime in on which one you prefer!) and Final Lap Twin are all really fun. Final Lap Twin includes an RPG mode where you race instead of fight.  It's awesome and I've never seen anything else quite like it on other consoles.

Hahaha I thought the whole RPG thing was a typo or something. Big fan of RPGs and automotive stuff so this is pretty interesting. I'll have to play through it sometime.

Played a bit of the Crush games, I think I prefer Devil's Crush more. I like that the board has a lot more going on and the transitions between sections are smoother. Although I found it easier to keep on the board in Alien Crush.
