2/13/2025: Localization News - Cosmic Fantasy 3-4!

Rather earth-shattering news in the PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 community: Cosmic Fantasy 3 & 4 has been officially localized to English by Edia 30 years later for the Switch! Hard to believe! I know their script quality is poor given the 1&2 port but still good to see.

I'm convinced this is a much bigger problem than people give it credit for.
Read through the first couple hundred pages of this thread and you'll find lots of cross referenced proof of specific people doing it in an ongoing basis.

At the same times you'll also see plenty of collectards complaining that we're just insecure whiners who just wish that prices weren't "legitimately" high and that we "just want free games".
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

I was speaking of the population at large as opposed to the astute members here. Sadly, EBay has become the determiner of value for almost everyone from second hand stores to flee markets. I've seen people print off sold ebay  listings and display them at garage sales for maximum profit.

Did you punch the seller in the mouth?

I would have.

Anyway, shill bidding from fucktards and their buddies who run shitty stores drives prices up.

The OTHER thing that drives prices up?

Stupidfucks like the retards that block me on Facebook when I tell them they fucked up on their prices.

AKA:  Impatient noobs that need shit RIGHT NOW, because the Yubtubs told them about the Turbo.

I HAVE TO HAVE THIS STUFF NOW I NEED TO POST PICTURES ON FACEBOOK TO SHOW OFF MY I MEAN, I NEED TO PLAY IT IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE I AM SUCH A COOL, HIP YOUNG KID GETTING INTO THE RETROBES.

Those people are a severe problem.   Ignorant noobs that think they're experts in this shit because they all sit in a few groups and stroke their cocks together.   They establish dumb prices by buying things and then validating each other.

NAH MAN, THAT SHIT (Keith Courage) IS RARE.  YOU DID GOOD PAYING 20$ FOR IT.  DON'T LISTEN TO THE IDIOTS (Longtime TG/PCE collectors that know things.).

I keep a list of these dumbasses, so if any of them try buying anything from Aetherbyte, I can just refund the money.

Speaking of shill bidding, here is a non OBEY auction for SNES Hagane.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hagane-The-Final-Conflict-SNES-SFC-Super-Nintendo-Super-Famicom-/111619344179?

It started at $0.99. It's at $535. Check out the bid history.

Wow. I am no expert on ebay, so can someone with more experience explain this? It looks as though the same person bid higher and higher with no one else bidding to make the price raise, or is it that the person put a max bid in and the other bids have been lower each time, so that is raising the  bid? That's a good game, but 535 is so high, I can't believe that is justifiable. I must need a better career, hahah

mickcris

Quoteor is it that the person put a max bid in and the other bids have been lower each time, so that is raising the  bid?
I think that is whats happening.  Instead of that person just entering $535 the first time, they kept trying to increase it slowly to find the other persons max bid I guess.  You can look at the bid times to see when they were entered.  The $525 was from the day before.

NecroPhile

The idiot with 30 feedback keeps bidding slightly higher than the current high bidder whose max bid is much higher, thus automatically outbidding the 'tard.  Click on 'show automatic bids' to see 'em.

So this is for real? I can't believe the game is going for that much. I've played it on an emulator and it's very good, I enjoyed what I played a lot and would pay retail release price for it if I could (~60$+inflation or so) but I can't imagine going that high for a single game. It's a crazy world we live in today, sad.

Hagane and Aero Fighters seem to be the most expensive normal SNES carts.  If you want the box too, its even more lol:

I'm surprised that you found Hagane not to be engaging. The gameplay is so on point! Nothing feels cheap, rather all the challenges of the game feel perfectly executed. Once you master a certain level, it feels great and you'll consistently be able to beat it. What didn't you like about it?

I talk about atmosphere in games all the fucking time. The game's backgrounds, music, and level design just weren't as full of spirit as they could've been. So, in essence I thought the game's atmosphere was a little shallow thanks mainly to it's uninspired level design.

I agree the artstyle may be a bit lacking, but the gameplay is too good and carries the rest of the game. The tight controls feel awesome once mastered - flipping around, jumping off enemies heads, dodging. Feels like executing a combo. The somber ending of the game ends up fitting the art style also

Ok.. I understand I am a bit new around here but I decided to check out ebay and a few other sites that list games for the TG16/Duo and I was literally blown away by the pricing of some select games.

I may enjoy the games on this console but in all honesty.... Who in their right mind would pay over $100 for a video game? The most I ever paid was when Phantasy Star 4 came out at the local Electronics Boutique for $90. I had that game day one.

Other than that I have never paid more than $50 for a game. Even the new consoles I wait till the prices drop below $50.

But I digress. I thought I could grab a few games from my past that I knew I missed out on but looks like I will just be burning some discs it seems. I may have some old systems but I never collected anything from/for them. Guess most of my gear is collectible now. Glad I have something to fall back on in another 30yrs'ish when I retire.

NecroPhile

The majority of titles can be had for less than $100, especially when it comes to PCE games.  And look on the bright side: at least the pricey games will maintain worth, whereas a $50 game on a modern console will likely be worth $5 a couple years later.

DildoKKKobold

Just got a message from eBay, that I thought would be of interest. I pulled out specific parts. There is often the question here of "Why doesn't eBay punish people for continually listing and relisting absurd, above market BINs?" Well, it appears instead of ignoring it, they are pushing sellers to list BINs, and actually encourage it.

Quote from: eBay... Adjustments to monthly allotments of free listings. eBay will update the monthly allotments of free listings*—zero insertion fees—for both eBay Stores subscribers and sellers without an eBay Store...

... A $1 special duration feature fee per listing for sellers who choose 1- or 3-day auction-style listings. Charging this fee will help discourage the use of shorter durations where they are least successful...

... Consider listing fixed price more often, especially for items that have a clear market value or when you know the price you want for your item. List auction-style for premium items when the value may fluctuate, when price is unknown, or when there is intense buyer demand for a limited item....

Its really been like that for years since retro gaming collecting has become the "hip" thing to do. You think overpriced Turbo games are bad, look at the Neo Geo AES games! There are some that regularly go over the $1,000 mark and beyond whereas Turbo games you have maybe 2 or 3 that are over that mark.

Some sell or are made to appear to sell for stupid prices, but there are at least as many selling for half as much in comparable completeness. It's just collectards mistakingly paying too much for the wrong version, like when common PCE games get inflated due to a Turbo version becoming sought after. Once the MVS version became sought after, the supply was still very slim. So it was often hard to find a copy for sale at any price. Meanwhile, plenty of AES versions were available everywhere all along.
