Just reading through this amusing thread and I totally agree on the views expressed regarding Metal Jesus, Pete Dorr, Hancock and especially Gamester 81.  G81 comes off as a total douche.  Every video he has is "Rare blahblahblah system EXTRA Rare!" when some of them are hardly quantifiable as rare.  He always just shows the machine but rarely shows the consoles in action.  And it is so obvious that he has zero interest in playing most of the crap in his collection, but he has it anyway because it's worth a few bucks.

I am totally against collecting for the sake of collecting.  It's a waste and I hate it.  I don't believe in owning anything I won't need/use simply because of perceived value.  That is why I threw out all my old console boxes years ago

I don't get the Luke Morse hate though.  Yes his repair methods are very unprofessional and he's a terrible hoarder, but he has introduced me to so many games I've never heard of and he's got a fun and entertaining personality.

I also enjoy Michael B the Game Genie, even if he sucks badly at games

mickcris

Ive watch some Gamester 81 rare console videos.  I find it odd how he manhandles all his stuff like he doesn't give a shit.  He also lots of times gives out misinformation about the stuff too.

Quote from: guest on 04/06/2015, 11:28 AMTo add more to the shit pile... They are budgeting 1600 each for wage compensation for the month off. Now I have no clue what these people do, but it sounds as though MJ works in a professional environment based on his past with Sierra. So I would imagine he also gets paid leave. I have enough leave to take a month off, but I would still get my regular salary.  This is so suspect. I hope to hell people don't fund this thing.
Yarr, that too.  To make matters worse, he's planning on making all sorts of videos out of it, so he'll make money off of advertising too (not that I think that'll amount to thousands of dollars).

The Luke Morse shit stems back from him choosing his hoarding games sound investments, over a life with his wife and kid. He made a drama out of it on his youtube channel. His priorities are all sorts of fucked up.

He still wears his wedding ring, so I assume they have reconciled.  I guess the damage was done when he made that video.  No going back now

There are two phenomena associated with the internet that have always baffled me. One, is the sheer number of people willing to work for free. I'm not talking about labor of love kind of stuff. I am talking about people who will put insane amounts of time and effort into a project so someone else can get rich. For an example, many bloggers and wikipedia drones.

The second, is what we see unfolding here with Aluminum Jeebus. That is, there are scores of people from all economic levels who simply enjoy giving away money, even when it is obvious the person they are giving it to doesn't really "need it." It took the internet to make me realize we live in a world where a guy can ask people to pay for his month long party, and people would actually want to do that. It really is truly fascinating.

Yes, but Poe Tae Toe Man did not ask for $50K+

He just benefitted from his solicitation going viral.

You are correct, MetalYeezus may get his goal (or more), but Yeezus had a very high goal from the onset.

PoeTaeToe just got lucky.

This turn of events doesn't upset me nearly as much as Joe suggested that it might.  I just think it's funny, and this may be the point where his show jumps the shark.

Should be an entire Sack episode dedicated to them performing Rusty Ventures on each other. I would excite. :3

If he comes to Denver sure I'll shoot something with him (for his show). Nothing is planned. Someone offered to pay for the whole thing if he was allowed to tag along. Not sure of MJR responded to that or not.

Am I missing something? Is MJ some sort of video game royalty? Should Joe and Dave be obligated to help this turkey because he has 100k+ subscribers? I don't know if they are friends with the guy or not but just because you are part of a gaming community doesn't obligate you to anything. Who cares what MJ or his followers think?

Well no I guess... I was raised with Southern hospitality. If you're from any other part of the states you dont understand.

ToyMachine78

OK I'm new to crowd funding. Do most of the donations come in early or late? I would guess early, 'cause all of your devoted fans would donate up front. If that's the case it doesn't bode well for MJ. At the current average per day he won't meet the goal.

I don't understand ebegging and mooching either, but the guys gonna do what he wants to do. That doesn't mean you have to snub him if he comes to your city. Especially if you're a fellow YouTube personality. Joe obviously talks to the guy, how else would he know about the campaign ahead of time.

Well most folks here support and enjoy Game sack. So I do feel its silly to boycott an episode of game sack because it features MJ. That's just my opinion. You don't have to share it.

I'm born & raised Carolinian, and I have to say that this is one of the biggest loads of bull I've ever read.  I'm pretty sure the "hospitality" you mentioned is the only thing the South has going for it, and even that's reserved only for white folks.

In regards to Metal Jesus, if he were to ask to be included in an episode of Game Sack, it would be kind of rude to refuse...but to ignore, or at the very least not go out of your way to make it happen...that would be preferable.  Keep Jesus out of the Sack!

To each his own. I'd rather live in the South East vs any other region I've ever visited.

If you grew up in a super rural impoverished part of the state, or urban poverty center for that matter, yeah your experience probably sucked. But it would suck to grow up in poverty anywhere.

You can find shit hole areas in any state, but the Carolina's offer many great cities and towns to live in.

I agree.  Game Sack is YouTube's best kept secret and I wouldn't want them to sell their souls to Metal Jesus just for a little bit more publicity.  Besides, MJ as a gamer does not share much in common with Joe.  Joe was always a console gamer while MJ was predominantly a PC gamer.  Joe collects good games.  MJ takes whatever crap he can get his hands on.  Joe actually plays and goes in depth with the games, providing detailed insight.  MJ plays the games on a more casual basis and says "huh" way too much.

But I'd like to see GameSack mention MJR in a YouTube episode called "YouTubers We Don't Want to Talk About"

It would be better for us to be on his channel because he has more subscribers. Even if we got AVGN in one of our episodes it wouldn't make a difference. But if we got on an AVGN episode... well just look at what happened to stupid Pat.

His campaign isn't going so well. $4900 so far. He needs to double his average daily contribution to meet his goal.

Bloufo

So what happens to the money already donated if the target amount is not met?
A shortened trip schedule, or he just pockets the money and sends out a bunch of stickers, t-shirts, "military grade coins", etc, as a type of consolation.

Stupid Pat is a curious statement; I was under the assumption most people love that guy. He's a local to my area. I see him from time to time at garage sales/swap meets in my area. I also have been to the store Luna Games, the place that his friend who does podcasts with him works. Luna is the only retro videogame store in my direct area, I don't want to speak negatively of it (or them) but I am not a fan. I rarely find things at swap meets/thrift stores, but each time I've seen him he has bags full of items, so I thought my distaste for them was due to local bitterness hahah

MJR I've spoken with in the Atari Age chat a few times, and he seemed OK if not aloof. He was not responsive when I suggested to him to check out a game I worked on for a "hidden gems" episode. I didn't have distaste for him until he got the Earthbound for free, and then this fundraiser. I have no issue with a guy receiving a gift from a friend or admirer, but I don't think it does anyone a favor bragging about the conquest of free acquisition of difficult and sought after items, but to each his own and there is obviously a audience for that. I think that was his mindset "well, someone gave me a [overly valued game, say $300,] maybe I can get them to give me money directly to do this, what should the theme be..."

However, I just have a lot of issues with people asking for funding without showing a certain amount of initiative to begin with. I'll back a project where they have a prototype but need funding for full development or manufacturing in bulk, but to just fund someones "idea" is such a difficult to support proposition. I guess I am just too much of a tightwad.

I wish him the best, and actually hope this gets funded and he and his "fans" enjoy themselves, but it's not something I can get behind, support, or be involved with.
