Anyone buy this yet?  It looks good (direct port of the PSP version?), but I don't know about using the touchscreen controls.

I've been wanting to try out Ys, but iOS isn't the way to go.

As soon as I get home from work, I'll get the iOS version!

UPDATE: sounds gorgeous. You can select PC-88, original, and chronicles versions of the soundtrack...

Whatever floats your boat, but I'd rather play both.  At the very least, I'd want to play the Turbob version in english with better graphics, music, and cutscenes.

Hahahhahahajja. I immediately went for the sound options. I stayed in the menu screen just comparing the three different renditions of the menu music.

Wait...graphic modes, too? I gotta check that out.

This might be for me. I have yet to play Ys and can't justify spending the price for the cd version (yes, I could burn it...). I have never been too keen on mobile gaming though.

Yeah, I saw this a while ago from Falcom's twitter account. It's cool they brought it to phone platforms. Oh, and it's English and not tainted by X.X.XSEED Games to boot ?? I thought it was Japanese. Looks like some other publisher picked up the rights, this "DotEmu" which is in France. Interesting and I approve!

Buggy Adventure I have played this game on PC as well as PS Vita and have not seen so many text errors than in this version. The names are even spelled wrong except for Adol. Copyright issues?"

I have noticed a bunch of typographical errors, which makes me sad, but it certainly isn't a deal-breaker.

If anything, it harkens back to the dawn of 8-bit RPGs/ARPGs.

Yeah, I saw a guy in their forums complaining about a typo. I guess it's a relatively new company or its localization staff is just getting started. Wonder how they landed a license from Falcom.

They have ported some high profile games (R-Type) to mobile...I have R-Type for iOS and it really is quite nice.

They have been around a while, the translation team must be new...

NecroPhile

Have you guys tried the 'classic' graphic mode yet?  I'm familiar with the different tunes (the PSP version had that option too), but I've not seen the original graphics version.

I grabbed it on my Nvidia Shield and beat it. Its basically a slimmed down port of the Steam release. It lacks the border mode from the PC Eternal/Chronicles release, and has a different localization that has some terrible typos and translations. Sound options are the same, controller support is good. The 2 graphic styles "classic" and "chronicles" only change the art portraits between the PC Eternal and the PSP Chronicles versions. Otherwise from start to finish it seems pretty solid if you ignore the egregious translation.

*edit* It also runs in 60fps like the PC version, though I can't speak for older/weaker hardware. I can record some footage of it after work tonight if anyone is interested to see how it compares.

I was wondering about this, wingZerokai answered.

Well that's not as cool as I was thinking it'd be.  I was expecting it to be like the old computer versions, similar to how you can listen to the PC-88 tunes.

I know, I was switching modes and wondering why it wasn't changing the sprite/stage graphics.

Ha!

Ah, that's interesting, so it honors the old PC Eternal release from the late 90's, 1998 I believe. Pretty sure Ys II Eternal was 1999 with upgraded graphics and then came the "Complete" package in 2001 where they released both together, just that Ys I Eternal had its graphics upgraded too.

I have done hacking work on the original Ys I Eternal actually. I've extracted the script and bitmaps which is where I stopped. Wanna port the translated results over from the complete/chronicles versions and release a full installer of the games. It's a very low priority project, but eventually.

Yeah, from what I can tell, Ys I was updated to have cleaner graphics on par with Ys II for the Complete package. I don't have the Eternal versions, just my copy of Complete. So I'm not sure if much else was changed besides the graphics being cleaner and it running on the Eternal II engine.

I can't believe how many times Ys I and II have been recycled, revised, re-envisioned, and resold.

AND I BUY IT :)

With controller support, I'm pretty sure with google play side loaded this would be playable on an Ouya.

If they do port over more Ys, or Falcom titles in general, I'll gladly purchase them and let people know how they fare. I'm a massive Falcom fanboy. I just hope if they do port over more, they don't translate them so questionably.

NightWolve

Yeah, for me personally, it's good to see XSEED get competition, but this company needs a real translation staff obviously. That reminds me of my first Xak III version in 2002 when I didn't have a human translator and I ran most of the script through Babelfish as proof of concept to say, "Look, this game could be in real English one day, IF I had a human translator, but for now, see how it works out for ya!"
