Greetings from a Sega fan

Hello everyone!

This forum was recommended as THE go-to resource for PC Engine stuff. A quick glance at your forums doesn't disappoint.

I'm a long-time Sega fan, and I just obtained a region-free CoreGrafx II, for which I have gotten a handful of HuCards. So far, I'm quite enjoying it. Definitely has a unique look and feel.

So I'll be looking forward to stopping by, to get info or maybe find some good loot.

Gladly! I've played Peach Boy a couple times, not sure exactly which one it is, I won't try the Japanese title without reading it. (okay, it's Momotaro Katsugeki. Copy and paste wins!)

The music is SO ridiculously catchy, I saved a video clip on my phone so I can listen to it. It's a lot of fun, the kind of game that had it been on a Nintendo console the world would STILL be fawning over it. I didn't know there were item menus, though . . .I thought it was gonna be a straight action game. I'll figure out the item menus so I can use weapons etc effectively . . .

Twinbee is great. From back in the days when no one thought us westerners would like silly, cute Japanese titles. It's not too hard for a shooter, and the colors and music are vibrant. Really like it.

I also got Space Invaders, Dungeon Explorer (US version, so I can read all the text), and Dragon Spirit. They're all good, I'll play all of them more.

Next up, I'd like to find Galaga and Ninja Spirit. Really enjoying exploring and discovering a new (old), different game console. I know pretty much every Genesis/SNES game, and have most every one I want (except the ones that are prohibitively expensive!). I'll surely share more as I learn more . . .

...Actually yeah, I'm quite fond of Sega too. Genny is home to one of my favorite games in my collection, Alien Soldier. I also supported Sega heavily during the Saturn and Dreamcast era. Saturn might have well as been PCE part 2 in my book, with it's great import library and focus on great 2D games.

Welcome as well. I loved SMS back in the day and at one time had over 150 games including Smurf 2 but I've sold them off and bought ED. Let someone else hoard them for displaying and bragging rights, I just want to play.

Smurf 2 works fine on NTSC and has multiple languages including English but it's rare as hen's teeth as it was one of the very last SMS game released outside Brazil. Most people didn't even know of it when someone found a few and sold them on newsgroup oh about 15 years ago.

(1) Twinbee PCE is great. In the States, I didn't know it by that name, since Konami chose the title STINGER (which isn't bad, on its own, but is laughably lame compared to the cute, and descriptive "Twinbee"). Anyway, Stinger was a fun, solid NES game, but PCE Twinbee is five generations ahead in terms of polish.

(2) The rest of your games are solid. I like the "updated" version of Space Invaders on that HuCARD...it has some nice little touches. It included a version of the original game, but it is not my favorite way to play the original.

(3) DE and DS are not just great games, but they have two of the greatest chiptune soundtracks on PCE.

EVERY SONG in Dungeon Explorer = master peas
MANY SONGS in Dragon Spirit = Fee Nom Nom (the remainder are good, with maybe one clunker, but overall it is a nice soundtrack. The 4-5 standout tracks are phenomenal, though.)

Nothing wrong with hoarding if you play the games too. Smurfs 2 is alright, but below average compared to the other great platformers on the system.

Favorite Sega console (and the greatest game console of all time in the history of ever!) is Genesis, naturally. Now, I could go on for PAGES about why, and then give a lecture on how the Saturn is the last of the "Retro Consoles" . . . but this is a PC Engine forum. Thanks for the warm welcomes, everyone. Back in the day, teenage me thought of the TurboGrafx as second-class. Once every few months there would be a game review snuck betwixt dozens of Sega and Nintendo reviews. It seemed to hit a stride when the Duo came out, but damn, those Johnny Turbo comic book style ads were terribly off-putting. Sega sticking it to Nintendo in ads was cool and hip, was like the kid smart mouthing the teacher in a kind of harmless way. The Turbo ads were simply . . . sad. It was like a freshman wannabe lipping off to the varsity quarterback.

All that said, gee, I sure would like a Duo someday.

While I am not a Sega fan, I am not a Sega hater. I just have never really been exposed to anything Sega other than the Game Gear, which I enjoyed.

It's that plasticy-paper stuff, and it came with an Atari Flashback. I believe the Asteroids poster was exclusive to the store where I got it, or exclusive to that model. Others had a Centipede or Battlezone or other poster. I was very happy to get the Asteroids one . . . it might be my favorite vintage Atari game!

As for the bright yellow frame, it was left in the house by the previous owner when we moved in. It accents the yellow in the ASTEROIDS logo rather well, I think.

My sister got me a Flashback for my birthday a couple years ago, the posters are cool.. but shame about them being folded in quarters. I was thinking of doing the same thing with one of them!

I wish someone would make games that look exactly like that artwork, the way games of the future appeared in my seven-year old imagination.
